The Good Wife Midseason Report Card: B-

at . Comments

Over the last couple weeks - and for the next couple weeks - TV Fanatic will take the occasional break from caroling and present-opening to hand out grades to various shows at their seasonal midpoints.

Most recently, critics have awarded strong letters to both Parks and Recreation and New Girl. The next program to be evaluated by a TV Fanatic Midseason Report Card? The Good Wife.

Best Character: Eli Gold. We've met his ex-wife this season and watched Alan Cummings because a major player in The Good Wife cast. And the show is all the better for it. There are few more entertaining characters in all of television, as a mere look from Eli can leave me laughing, while an outburst of anger leaves me feeling sorry for whomever is on the receiving end... and, okay, I'm laughing here, too.

Worst Character: This is purely by default, as one of the show's strengths is its lack of any truly annoying characters. But I'll actually go with Kalinda. Season three has tilted a bit too far in her sexual direction, as every conversation she has is loaded with innuendo. I don't know if Dana is actually falling for it, or just playing along, but it would be nice, once in awhile, to see Kalinda do her job without resorting to flirtation.

Best Episode: "Executive Order 13224". A great use of guest stars (and Carrie Preston is on her way back to defend Will!), along with Alicia actually being front and center for a change. (See below.)

Worst Episode: "Parenting Made Easy." The return of Michael J. Fox? Good. The contrived set up of a non-Grace kidnapping in order to prompt an Alicia/Will break-up? Very bad.

Most Disappointing Storyline: The Will and Alicia relationship. I enjoyed their fun, flirty banter. But where was the direction here? The show spent so long building up feelings between the couple, only for Alicia to claim on the fall finale that she didn't love Will. She never seemed to take their dalliance seriously at all. Their secret romance also had too much of a soap opera feel.

Hopes for 2012: More Alicia. Did you notice that she wasn't actually involved a lot throughout the first half of the season? The focus was on integrating Eli into the office, the case against Will (which did result on a couple great Will vs. Peter scenes), the inclusion of Lisa Edelstein as his former lover. Let's hope the back half of season three brings the Good Wife herself into the fold more.

Overall Grade: B-

Will we see more of Lisa Edelstein? 2 episodes does not an "arc" make.

I can't believe the negative comments re the new season. It's marvellous tv, great characters (except maybe the two kids) and the wife and I love the characters and story lines. OK so inevitably some episodes are better than others but overall I still believe that series 3 is great tv for intelligent viewers. Best characters - ALL OF THEM except for the kids.

They knew each other in law school but did not date, go back to the whispering cell call where she told him they wouldn't have lasted a week. PS' They will not get back together, he is heading to prison.

Hopes for 2012, that Alicia and Will get back togeteher. I cannot let the thought go about perhaps that it is really Will who is the father og Zack, Alicias son. Will and Alicia have known each other since lawschool and right after Alicia gets married to Peter. Zack asks Alicia in one episode if he is like his father and Alicia says "no, you are so much different". Just a thought.

The show has changed totally. It was a great show about lawyers, investigations, and the courtroom. That's why I liked it. Now it's just the usual soap opera smut. Sex,lesbians, bi-sexuals, overuse of minorities, people with handicaps, religion, and just about every other issue you can think of. I have had it. I see enough in the real world. I want to be entertained, not be part of every cause there is. The producers feel if they throw enough at wall something will stick. Not me, I don't do soaps, and that's what this is!

To start off with the grade of D- , this past 1/2 season has been nothing short of a secret soft porn that needs to be completely thrown out. Alicia does not need to get a divorce to hook-up with a smacked ass, it would be her complete downfall. Now if the writers don't start putting a little pizaz in their stories this show will go down the drain. The end of sunday night football is upon us and will be replaced by a new lawyer show (THE FIRM). Between this new show and Desperate Houswives we might see the end of THE GOOD WIFE at season 3 end.

I would like to see more of Will and Alica. Alica needs to file for divorce and start her new life with Will. The Religion issue with Grace, could have been written differently. I give the first half of the season a C.

Best epi: I loved "Feeding the Rat". Good case involving an everyday man accused of a murder he didn't commit. Lisa Edelstein exposing more of Will's past. A great scene involving her, Will and Peter. Diane weakening to the plight of the poor. And some of the best scenes of Will and Alicia showing how sweet they are together. Worst epi: "Parenting made easy" For reasons already discussed by Matt. Best character: As a Will fan, I have enjoyed seeing more of his past. But I have to say Diane, because so much of the first 2 seasons, she has been relegated to the sidelines. I have been pleased about what a strong and likable person she is. Worst character: Caitlin. Enough said. Most disappointing: Will and Alicia 100%. I have already made my views on that clear so I won't repeat myself. Just hoping the Kings have a whole "grand scheme" in mind to try to make me forgive them for that debacle. Nice sex scene though:) Overall grade: B. I definitely feel it hasn't been as good as the past 2 seasons, seeing as I have been way less obsessed with it. Which is probably a good thing! But still, it is my #1 show and really, the only show I care enough about to seek out online forums. Here's hoping the writers make New Years resolutions to up the stakes!

For me, the worst character is Will. I really dislike him, I find he has zero redeeming qualities. Eli of course is the best character, Alan Cumming steals every scene he is in. This season so far gets a B+
