Castle Review: We're Going To The Chapel...

at . Comments

Welcome back, Castle fans! After what seems like forever, the ABC hit returned this week with the first new episode of 2012, "'Till Death Do Us Part." The episode carried us through a fun murder and ended with the much anticipated wedding of Ryan and Jenny. How did it turn out? Let’s discuss now!

The Pick Up Artist Goes Down. In more ways than one. The weekly case focused on a pick up artist who played women to find out espionage secrets. This was a fun twist, being that it dealt with his career instead of just trying to pick up women. The best parts about it? The code names for the pick up moves (that Espo later used) and the victim’s ledger of conquests. In that ledger was a woman we were getting ready to see walk down the aisle...

Ryan’s Wedding Is Finally Here! The latest installment featured the wedding of Ryan and Jenny, and although it was the shortest scene ever, it was pretty sweet. I had hoped that more time would be spent on the event, especially after the lead up to it. But, hey, us fans will take what we can get.

The Highlights:

After finding out Lanie is bringing a date, Javi searchers for the perfect plus one. Loved that both wanted to bring someone because the other one was. What made it awesome was that their dates ended up being a cousin and a gay man. Here is hoping to a Lanie/Javi rekindling. Espo is too awesome to be alone.

In preparation for the wedding, Ryan goes on a cleanse with Jenny. I didn’t care to much for the idea until it led into the donut fight between Ryan and his partner. This was awesome.

The wedding of Ryan’s character marked an especially special occasion. Seamus Deaver walked down the aisle towards his real life wife, Juliana. The two have been married since 2006 and got to experience a short but sweet expensive wedding on TV. Ryan’s excitement felt real in the wedding scene, and no wonder, he was getting ready to “marry” his wife all over again.

Beckett and Castle decide to be each other's plus ones! Although there wasn’t really any movement on the romance situation, Beckett is definitely starting to put herself out there again. Besides, the girl looked gorgeous!! Stana Katic is seriously beautiful. I couldn't have been alone in my reaction of seeing those two walking down the aisle hand and hand to their seats. I’m willing to bet the rest of the Caskett shippers were smiling at their screens, too.

Some Side Notes:

  • Beckett called Espo “The Situation.” Hilarious.
  • Castle referencing ABC’s 9 p.m. time slot, The Bachelor
  • Castle finally got to rock his writer’s vest again!
  • How amazing did Alexis look in that black gown?
  • Kinda loved that Jenny was one of Bailey’s conquests. Pretty awesome twist for the wedding, especially since Ryan already knew. At least one couple on the show is honest with each other.

Overall, a pretty solid start to the new year. The only downside to this episode was the shortened wedding, but there was a lot to pack into the hour. The case was typical Castle: fun, twisty, humorous. So I leave you with this Castle Fanatics: did you wish the wedding scenes were longer? Was the first episode of 2012 a letdown or did you enjoy it as much as I did?

Sound off below and let us know what you thought of “Till Death Do Us Part.” Make sure to check back later in the week the Castle Round Table, too!

My earlier reference where Beckett states damaged goods from "Kill Shot. I also loved Ryan's wedding where Castle takes Beckett to a seat. Nice ending between Lainie and Javier!

Great episode, second to "Kill Shot." I've noticed the coverup of clothes and way KB wears her hair, leading to her comment of damaged goods. She still portrays a side that hints her inside is fighting with confidence after being shot. Great subplot with charactors planning who's bringing the plus+ones to the wedding. I loved the lines about how many relationships between KB and men, and KB shot back to Castle, "You've signed womens' breasts!-Castle!" Some things are best not talked about for the good of a relationship. Good lines and the wedding was a happy moment in the context of the show~! Keep up the good writing!

I honestly think they're going somewhere with how Kate dresses this year. I mean, this is the same girl who showed up to Castle's book signing wearing a super hot dress, and wore these really cool boat neck sweaters at work. Now she's in turtlenecks AND a blazer, always totally covered up, in matronly dresses at weddings....the difference is too stark. They HAVE to be going somewhere with that. Maybe she's afraid to be "hot Beckett" because of the shooting and because of Castle...

I agree, looks like Beckett and Castle are getting closer to a romatic relationship. Guess its time for Andrew Marlowe to throw in the monkey wrench! Wish Becketts dress wasn't so plain.

Doughnut fight was hysterical! Kate's dress at the wedding was hideous!

Clever reference/advertising for Pan Am (stewardess spy).

Meh, I thought it was just okay. I personally found the case to be boring, but the character interaction was good. They spent too long on the case (I usually like the cases, but like I said, I found this one boring) and I agree with other people said, I'd have liked to see more of the wedding. It had some funny moments and was still enjoyable though.

I feel like I'm one of the few left that can enjoy the show outside of all the shipper stuff. Yes, I want them together as much as everyone else, but that doesn't have to be ALL the show is about. If the show gets reduced to just their relationship, when they finally do hook up, there's not going to be much to look forward to each week. I personally like the fact that they keep the show greater than the sum of its two main characters. Anyways - I loved this episode. I thought it was one of the funniest episodes this season. Castle's one-liners were stellar, and I thought Esposito's jealousy was funny. Stealing the show, though, was Ryan's cleanse. The doughnut fight and the scene where he finally eats were hilarious!

I liked it... I thought it was quirky and upbeat, and everyone seemed so happy! Ryan just looked ecstatic through the whole episode, and it seemed contagious! And am I the only one that thinks that Castle and Beckett seem much easier with each other these days? Before, if there was even a HINT of attraction or a relationship, they both shied away. But lately, they're almost openly suggesting it! LOVE this evolution of the relationship!! If they can even contemplate going there, it seems like it's that much closer to becoming a reality! And I love Espo (the Situation - HAHAHAHAAAAA!!) - but didn't care much for this jealous side of him. I get it, but he was kind of vicious about it, I thought...

@Lyndsie: I like your thinking! :) But they could have made a little bigger deal of Ryan's wedding. At least give us more than a tiny glimpse at the dress!
