Eureka Review: Which Way To Titan?

at . Comments

When we last visited the residents of Eureka in September, the Astraeus had launched early with Allison still aboard, leaving Carter to ask: Where did they go?

In this week’s season premiere - "Lost" - we learned the answer: Earth. Ah, but not just any Earth, they found themselves back on Earth with four years having passed since the launch.

Eureka Season 5 Premiere Scene

Did anyone else catch the nod to a certain ABC series with the sound effects that played when going to commercial? If you were a fan of the show you might have noticed. Kudos to Jamie Paglia and his team for the subtle, yet fun, addition.

As for the biggest change in four years? It was a toss-up for me between S.A.R.A.H. & Andy(s) being in charge and Carter being with Lupo. For the first, I really liked how Andy kept his charm, but then this streak of “evil” would wash over him and he would do something mean.

Kavan Smith doesn’t get enough credit for the amazing work he does portraying Andy. Kavan was the second person to portray Deputy Andy, but clearly he has been the best. This episode really took the training wheels off for Andy, as Kavan had to portray multiple versions in the same scene.

As for Carter and Lupo being together, I knew something was up when Vincent was urging Lupo to do “something” behind Zane’s back. Adding that to Carter dashing in and hiding a bra in the couch.... and I figured out they were “together” before it was said.

Honestly, this was the one element with which I had the most trouble. Apparently I’m a die-hard romantic at heart and the idea that Carter would have given up on Allison just didn't sit with me. Don’t get me wrong, both Ferguson and Cerra did a great job displaying affection and familiarity that would come with being together for a few years. I just couldn't accept it.

And I was right not to! The reveal at the end of the episode where we find out that the crew is in a virtual world akin to the Matrix allowed me to do a little cheer for Allison and Carter! I’m sure we all suspected something was up, given the tip off earlier in the hour when Zane was seeing flashes of people.

Beverley Barlow is like a bad penny, she just won't stay gone. Now she has some of the greatest minds in Eureka working for her without knowing it? Oh, this bitch needs to pay! Let's just hope that Jack, Henry and the rest of Eureka can figure out where the Astraeus really is!

In conclusion, it was a good episode and I’m thrilled to have one of my favorite summer shows back a little early, even if it is bittersweet being the beginning of the final season. Be sure and check out our Eureka quotes to see if your favorite from the premiere made it in!

I was just wondering how did they all end up in "Beverly's Virtual World" ? Did i miss something or is that yet to be revealed? The episode itself was great but that last part confused me a bit.

Well I guess I'm the only one who hated this direction. Don't get me wrong I've loved this show since the beginning but this was the first time that I fast forwarded through an episode (once Zane had his flashes didn't we all realize this wasn't real). With the alternate timeline, Bev controlling Alison's body, etc. I just feel like we've been down this storyline too many times. Sadly it doesn't matter as I'll watch next weeks as well hoping we get to see Carter and Henry in the "real" Eureka looking for them. I hope they don't drag this out too long since we only have a few eps left :(

Oh and at first I thought that what they were trying to tell zane and allison was that they had gotten much of a twist would that have been? Lol

I hated the andys more than anything else! I just wanted them all top short circuit and blow
As for carter and lupo.....? Ummmmm, I'm not mad about it, I was kinda excited at first, then it just turned into me feeling sorry for alison and zane and how its just not fair. I also figured out that they were not really back, I just didn't know exactly where they were, and technically wert still have no idea where they are, but all I know is atleast all this isn't real. Lupo and zane are my fav coupling, and after the whole altering the time line thing last season I have been waiting and waiting for them to get back together.

Man did I miss this show. This cast is so good together, in every combination. I even liked the Jo/Carter hookup. It made sense within the story - as well as to provide a blink that something is not adding up in this reality. I was reminded of just how good an actor Colin Ferguson really is, how generous he is to the other actor -he listens as well as anyone on any screen, big or small, and no one can move from serious to physical comedy as deftly as Mr. Ferguson, except maybe Fargo (now that he has someone to be serious about). Great to have it back, sorry that it's the last season!

I thought for sure that what Jo was hesitating to tell Zane was that she had his baby. I've thought that since Omega Girls when Jo wasn't infected because she had refused to take the vaccine. I hope thats still true and I never believed that either Carter or Jo would give up on Allison and Zane. Lets hope for a happy ending all around!!!

I was unsettled during the ep till the end. I didn't believe Carter would give up and move on. Like the movie with Tom Hanks, while you might move on, you don't stop loving and he seemed, not happy, to see Alison.

It was good. I thought something was wrong when they said Henry just gave up. Thats not really like him. Plus Jo and Carter together was just wrong. They are more like brother and sister. All in all I was impressed and can't wait to see the rest of the last season :(

Great premiere. I got sucked in, but then Zane's flashes told me something was wrong. I also found it hard to believe that Carter and Jo would fall in love or if they did that both of them would be so calm when their old loves returned. The reveal was well done. I hope this mind control does not last too long.

Its great that for the final season we get two different versions of Eureka to enjoy. I'm just worried this arc will last the entire 12 episodes that were originally supposed to be season 5. With only a final wrap-it-all up episode to go out on, I'm worried it will feel tacked on and unnatural. I guess we'll all find out this summer.
