I don't see Christina as eager to leave, in fact, I would say she is reluctant to leave. Christina couldn't care less about the hospitals that are pursuing her, she acted disinterested while out to dinner with a major hospital recruiter, and when sitting at the airport bar with Meredith, she said "We could miss our flights and just stay here, and our husbands would never know." Nope, Christina Yang is not eager to leave. In my opinion, Christina Yang is eager to hear Owen beg her to stay. She wants to know that Owen thinks she is worth fighting for.

So, who's on the "can't kill" list? For me, it would be Meredith, Derek, Yang, Alex, Bailey, Richard, Callie and Mark. Although I like others, not everyone - just some, I could take it if they were killed off LOL. I can't take the original cast, Callie and Mark though. They are Grey's for me.

Idk I think the "patient" is Meredith, that she comes down with a mysterious disease and the other doctors go on a wild goosechase trying to identify it and something happens to leave these characters in a cliffhanger, Meredith included. Wouldn't surprise me if Ellen P wants off the show after 8 seasons to focus on her family and other projects.

It's not Derek. He was on Letterman when Dave told him he couldn't sleep at night because he was worried that Patrick wouldn't be back next season on Grey's, with the contract negotiations. Patrick told him to stop worrying and to get some sleep. Everything will be fine.
I still think it's gonna be either Webber or Bailey. Or one of the kids.

Cristina can't be an Attending next year unless she goes General Surgery. She has to complete a Cardio-Thoracic fellowship, which is two years. At least in real life, not Shondaland.

Presumably, one of the originals is going to die. Shonda's made it pretty clear that even if MerDer leave or die, we won't know for sure in the finale. Based on stuff she said after the shooting, I think Bailey is one of the characters who can't be killed off. I don't think it makes sense , based on the story and on all the CO hints we've heard, to kill off Cristina. Sandra Oh might leave, but then Cristina will go to another hospital. Shonda said at one point that the finale is going to be about Alex growing up, so unless he sacrifices himself for someone, I don't think he'll die. Plus, I don't think we're done with Alex's story yet. Finally, we have Richard. This season, he's stepped down, he's given lots of good advice to people, and he's had to leave his wife in a home. I don't know if James Pickens, Jr. wants to stay, but I think Richard's story might be done. All of these meetings with Catherine Avery just seem to be excuses to give him screen time and to bring Debbie Allen back.

Does anyone think that maybe it could be Zola? I mean she was a very sick baby and I don't see many viewers taking it very well. Also, I can see how it would be very upseting for the writers to have to write about a baby dying. Plus, Shonda's tweet "Be a Sadist. No matter how sweet and innocent your leading characters, make awful things happen to them - in order that the reader may see what they are made of." I can't think of anything more awful happening to Meredith and Derek than losing their child that they have fought so hard to keep.

Hey everyone, just for kicks, what storyline would you like your fave characters to have next season if they won't be the one dead? Would be nice to hear your ideas!
Doe-Rae-Me, don't you think it is so unnecessary to kill cristina though? I mean, from last episode she's been very vocal about her eagerness to leave. If Sandra Oh will leave the show, I think Cristina can just be easily hired somewhere as an Attending. I think she'll stay in Seattle as her move to reconcile with Owen. I hope Shonda means what she says about her believing that Cristina and Owen are meant to be together.
Lulu, I think it's too out of character for Richard to commit suicide. From the last episode we've seen that he has allowed Adele to be happy. It can't be easy for him... but it's not too difficult that he'll kill himself.

It's the chief! He's going to commit suicide because Adele doesn't remember him and doesn't love him. He lost meredith's mom and now Adele he'll be the one to die!

If James Pickes Jr. were to leave the show his character could just retire, but the Chief is like a father to Meredith, so his death would be dark and twisty for Meredith, but less so for the viewers.
Christina Yang has a reason to be on a plane, and her death would be dark and twisty for Meredith and the viewers. My bet is that it will be Christina Yang who dies.

it is the origianl cast members whose contracts in question, so I assume the choices are an original cast member. Patrick Dempsey has said he'll return, if given the time to pursue racing; Ellen Pompeo has said she will return, as long as Patrick returns, and I would view either Meredith or Derek as "unkillable" characters if the show wanted to continue.
Justin Chambers has said he has no intention of leaving until the show just won't have him anymore because he has 5 kids to support and he knows a good thing when he's got it. I doubt Justin would choose to not renew his contract.
James Pickens Jr., Chandra Wilson, and Sandra Oh are the remaining choices, and I do not recall hearing if any of these three are interested in renewing their contracts.
Dr. Bailey has no reason to be ona plane, so I doubt it is her.

nutcracker, I agree that after the Africa storyline, Alex took the backseat this season... but I think you can still see how he has grown as a surgeon (also as a friend to Meredith and Cristina).. and now he rivals even Meredith and Cristina in terms of being a good doctor... AND he's Arizona's best man (don't we all remember that Arizona is also a ultra high-caliber, world-renowned surgeon?) I don't think it will be him though... He's certainly been built up as a lovable character... but not lovable enough to shock the whole world for the finale... if he dies only arizona, cristina and meredith, and maybe bailey will be devastated. not like others who have wives and heavier influences to other characters.

Yeah, it could be ALex!!!! that would be SOOOOOOOOO SAD!!! and his characater hasn't developed at all :P too many crazies in his life!! he doesn't trust anyone so he's not gonna fall in love again (not after Izzie) and we can only watch SO MUCH bitter.
I remember reading that Dempsey would carry on if he had more freedom to race.... right? I reckon Mer will take the job in Boston and Der will go... leaving plenty of chances for (either of) them to come back as guest stars.
I think Jackson will fail (be a repeater like George).
I thought the dearth would be Adele.... but seeing the comment that the writers broken down.... dunno now :P
I really REALLY don't want it to be Christina. I agree with WATCH&TELL.... it would be soooooo cool to see Attending Dr. Yang!!! oh yeah!!!!
At the end of the day we'll be sad whoever it is.

I'm secretly hoping Alex to be the one to die. We haven't seen a lot of him this season and nothing really interesting with him has been happening except for the tommy issue which wasn't really an earth-shattering issue. He hasn't really grown as a character and I can't see where this character can go from here. But I guess I would not cry over him dying. I would definitely cry if Owen dies though. I'm definitely a fan of Owen and Christina and I would love to see them work things out. The worst case scenario would be if Christina dies. She's my absolute favorite I would literally stop watching if she's killed off.
Oooops I meant to say.. if I feel okay with the character dying (like Richard, Adele, bailey, and even April, teddy, Avery and Mark... then the writers should be ok with them leaving too.... However... Cristina dying will definitely be difficult for the writers and the fans... I firmly believe Cristina is one of the three characters (including Derek and Meredith) that just CANNOYT be killed off. It just wouldn't make the show the same.
smileyglen, Cristina is my absolute favorite character on the show, and I certainly hope your sinking feeling is not right... I must admit though... if I feel okay with Richard and Adele... or even Bailey dying... I would not shed a tear. I can't say the same for Cristina... Come to think of it.. she has been through A LOT this season... so it might be that all her glorious scenes are a means to stage her upcoming death...
