We can speculate a lot,but the thing is we don't know what's really going on behind the scene.All the interviews are pretty vague and just create unnecessary hype.Anyway,here are my thoughts-if the beloved character is someone form the original cast members,top choices are Webber,Bailey and Alex.Mer/Der are safe-if that's really true,if Cristina is the one to die that would be the most dumbest and pointless approach to write a character out.Drew somehow confirmed that her character is safe.Avery's death wouldn't upset the writers that much.Owen also won't be the one in a body bag.What if any of the other actors still under contract requested an out,permanently.KR' Teddy-don't see how big can be her death.SR or JCap-that's the only way Shonda can split up Calzona.Slexie-all these bittersweet moments,which will give a satisfaction to the viewers,but without any implication of happily ever after makes me think that one of them is a potential candidate to face the death.So,Shonda killing a

I don't think it's going to be April. The only reason we haven't seen her much is because the actress was pregnant and gave birth. After much thought, it won't be Adele, she is not important enough to make everyone cry. It's probably Richard or Bailey, they are the ones who would change the face of the hospital.

I know Patrick Dempsey talked about leaving. Shonda wouldn't kill him, would she? I hope not... as long they don't kill Derek or Meredith, or Christina or Bailey... actually, don't kill anyone! I would be fine though if she kills off Adele, or Maybe Richard, if someone really has to die.

I think it'll be owen, most probably christina is stuck/injured, and owen comes to the rescue, but he ultimately dies, and christina lives forgiving him

Oh my God, please! Don't let it be Mark! I love Mark and Lexie. Lexie is my favourite!! But when I think back to how Shonda killed off George-she didn't show a lot of him anymore in the episodes before his death-I'm scared of the fact, that it might be Lexie, because we haven't seen a lot of her this season, yet.
I really want MerDerZo to be happy ever after in their dream house or in Boston or wherever. But damn it, just finally let them be happy!!
I want Alex to finally live through something good in his life and I want Teddy to feel better and become a happy person again. I want Calzona to stay happy and alive and I want Owen and Cristina to fix things and I definitely don't want Bailey or Webber to die. I don't care about the others though...so let it be one of them please!

Further to my other comments
I always wanted a twist. Introduce twins male and female around 27 years old, they are the love children of Richard and Ellis both are doctors. Ellis discovered she was pregnant when she left Richard and Seattle and headed to Boston, Meredith was little and never suspected her mother was getting fat, Ellis hid her pregnancy under her scrubs. When the twins were born she gave them up for adoption to a family member who knew about the affair but agreed to keep Ellis' secret and they kept the secret from Richard even though Richard knew the twins when they were growing up, even Meredith knew the twins because of the family friend. The twins discover that Richard is their father and go seek him out. Now that's more drama. Meredith would be so pissed at her mother, Richard would be just as angry.
I should be a writer. If Shonda reads these fans sites please use my idea.

I would like to see Meredith and Lexie's sister Molly come back for a visit with her daughter she would be about 6 now, and Molly could be pregnant again and she's come to Seattle for a check up.
Our 5th years are now starting their 5 years of fellowship in their chosen field of specialty.
Caroline Shepherd was suppose to come back sometime this season well that never happened so hoping that's on the schedule for next year, have a family reunion, that way Derek and Meredith can introduce Zola to the Shepherd Clan at the new house in the woods.
I want to see Bailey and Ben's relationship get more serious (as in marriage), Bailey deserves some happiness in her life.
I would love to see Callie approach Mark for his sperm so she can give Sofie a sibling.
And loads more complex medical cases.

I have a sinking feeling our beloved character is Cristina.
Sandra Oh wants to pursue her movie career. Everybody loves Cristina and to see Cristina die would be just as heartbreaking as watching George die. And it will leave us fans of the show angry at Shonda Rhimes for killing off one of our favorite characters, it's the only character apart from Meredith that the writers would cry over.
Season 9 would see a devastated Owen struggling to make sense of it all. He no longer wants to be Chief of Surgery, Derek and Richard don't want the spot so we see a new era with Mark Sloan as the new Chief of Surgery for real not for one day. Lexie and Steve are in the running for Chief Resident. We have more 1st year interns.
Who I want to see die: April, Teddy - their storylines are just not interesting. I would add Jackson or Mark but at least their bromance brings some laughs.
Who I think will die: I will go with others on this one and say Bailey, or Richard, or Richard AND Adele. Let's face it, Bailey isn't the same strong character she was before, so she has graduated, IMO. Still, all her ex-interns will mourn her death, as will many fans. Richard and Adele dying fit a lot of the finale descriptions. It will be painful (that such SGMWH institutions will die), and beautiful (that they will die together having lived fulfilled lives).
It.could.be.anyone! So many possibilities! But keep in mind that the character should be lovable in order to qualify to be the goner!
Derek and Meredith are a packaged deal. Either both stay, or if one leaves, the only way is for one of them to die. But I think Shonda was talking about MerDer when she said "there are some characters you can't kill". I think they'll stick with the series until the finale.
A lot of people, myself included, are afraid it will be either Owen or Cristina. So I think for pure shock factor, it won't be them. I think these two will end up together!
Alex has been built up as such a lovable character the last 2 seasons, that I am afraid he'll be in danger as well.
Calzona is also starting to get boring... but I like Sara and JCap so much that I don't want them to leave. I think although they are very busy in their personal lives, they can still stay on the show, and hopefully shine more as someone will leave!

Point is that it could be anyone, really. We don't know which actors will get their contract renewed and who won't. It has been 8 years, I suppose it would be only natural for some to decide to move on to other things. Besides, Sarah Drew just got a baby, Jessica Capshaw about to get a 3rd one, Sara Ramirez getting married etc. These actresses could decide to leave to live their personal lives. I think no character is safe, except maybe Meredith. And even her, we can't have any garantee.

Well I honestly think it is Keptner she was Mercey West and survived th shooting. I would say aVery put too much eye candy

Why is everybody saying that "please none of the originals"!? Was i the only one who read the article? She said that she realized after george that there are some characters tha she cant kill off! Also, i agree with her on the stance that putting the characters in difficult situations (like the death of a loved one) makes for them to develop better! We like this show because they are real for us, cause shonda's writing has made them real, despite all of the internal crap that's always going on with these actors, she almos always finds a way to have some sense! Even when denny showed up it had a explanation! I love the show and cant wait to see what happends!

If they kill Mark or Lexie I am out! The only reason I have continued to watch Grey's is for the chance to see them back together. If something happens to either of them I know a ton of people will stop watching. In my opinion the writers keep trying to shock everyone and have strayed from their original story lines that made the show so great.

I think its going to be Sloan, they have been building on the Lexi/Sloan relationship in the last few weeks and I think that they will just get together again and there will be a big accident. Maybe he even dies trying to save Lexi or something? I am just praying that it is not Christina!!!!

I honestly think it's going to be Bailey. We have watched these doctors grow into their own and for them to truly go out on their own they have to leave behind their mentor and go into the real world alone. Bailey has been with them every step of the way and this would be an extremely emotional turn of events. Shonda said Bailey had a beautiful moment in this finale and i think it may be her giving her send off to the characters. Shonda said she originally wanted to have Bailey shot in season 6 but neither her nor the writers could bring themselves to do it and now she is saying that her and the writers made a tough decision and cried a lot while writing the finale. I think Bailey is a goner. :'(

Beloved does not necessarily mean one of the originals....there is a good chance it could be Teddy...she is moving to another show ....Adele and Thatcher are on other shows too but they're certainly not beloved...Derek has already said he is returning...if they kill another of the originals I think it would lose fans...maybe Arizonia or Callie or Lexie
but I sure hope not
@Gina: you make an excellent point. Personally I think Shonda Rhimes got lost in her own hype somewhere along the way. This show now reminds me of a soap opera.

Webber or Bailey... they are like the parents of the hospital... It would hurt like hell and it would totally change many things at SGMW, they are both sweet...
