Castle Season Finale Review: All I Want Is You

at . Comments

Wow. That pretty much sums up the Season Four finale of Castle. Fans were promised a great hour, and the series absolutely delivered. Now that I have caught my breath, let’s discuss “Always."

There were tears, smiles and one very hot and heavy hookup.

Car Investigation

Time To Move On. Alexis graduated high school and delivered a truly beautiful Valedictorian speech. She provided some insight on how, although she is excited to move forward, she is scared to move on. Truer words were never said for how Castle was feeling at the moment.

Twisted Ties. So a homicide that Beckett was assigned to gave her the lead she had been waiting on for a year. After the late Captain Montgomery’s house was broken into, things just didn’t seem right. Files were stolen on his cases and you had to know it was related to the Beckett girls.

Castle pleaded with Beckett to back off of the case and finally admitted to her that he has had information about it and she needed to stay away... or she would be killed. This also led to one of the best Castle quotes of all time.

Every morning I bring you a cup of coffee, just so I can see a smile on your face. Because I think you are the most remarkable, maddening, challenging, frustrating, person I've ever met. And I love you Kate, and if that means anything to you, if you care about me at all, just don't do this. | permalink
Coffee Talking

Of course Beckett was pissed that Castle had kept this from her. How could she not be? Her driving force for years has been to find her mother’s killer. The past year she has been focused on finding her shooter. She goes to work every day putting herself in harm's way, wondering who tried to kill her. She was bound to be angry.

This led to Castle dropping out of the case. Kate and Javi decided to move forward, with Ryan unsure of why they are keeping Gates out of it. Up until this moment in the hour, I had been thinking to myself: what is the point of Gates? We were introduced to this tough Captain after we lost Roy. But her role is so minor. She hardly makes appearances, unlike Montgomery who played an active role in pretty much every episode.

Information led Beckett and Espo to a hotel room where they were attacked by Cole Maddox, a link in their case. After an amazing fight scene, he was gone. That is, until he showed up at the infamous “Mr. Smith’s” place to demand the files so he can put “Kate Beckett in the ground for good.” Looks like we have someone new to focus on next season, as well as putting a face to the voice of Mr. Smith.

You have to love how hardcore Esposito is. He was having Beckett’s back, no matter the cost. And it cost him. Gates laid the smack down and put both detectives on leave. It doesn’t make too much of a difference to Beckett, who decided to resign instead. Javi is now pissed at Ryan for going to Gates. Could our favorite bromance be over?

The Moment Caskett Fans Have Been Waiting For. The episode could have been titled “Finally” for several reasons. We finally put a face to Mr. Smith, moved higher up the chain of who is after Beckett, Alexis graduated - and Beckett made her move towards Castle.

There were two moments early in the episode that made me excited:

  1. Kate held Castle’s hand and agreed to have a movie night with him. To me, that was enough because that was all I expected to get. Little did I know, things were about to finally move forward.
  2. After four seasons, Beckett gave into her feelings and went to Castle. Looking insanely hot and drenched from the rain, Beckett made her move. The knock on the door was enough to get the heart beating. What came next? Even more hot than Kate in her rain-soaked clothes. The two finally hooked up!

So Castle fans, what did you think of the much anticipated event? Was it everything you wanted and more? The smiles on their faces said it all. It must be noted the great skills that were displayed tonight. Nathan Fillion, one who is known for being able to act with just a look, put out so much emotion. It was impressive. What else was impressive? Stana Katic’s fight scene on the roof. Seriously, kudos to both actors for bringing it in the finale.

A Priest on Castle

Things To Think About:

  • Who is Cole Maddox? How big of a role will he play next season?
  • Will Kate go back to the precinct or is her resignation for good?
  • Can Javi and Ryan make up?
  • Will Mr. Smith come forward to help Kate?
  • Alexis is heading to college, will we see more or less of her?
  • And the big question - what will happen next for Kate Beckett and Rick Castle? Is a relationship in their future?
  • Just a minute of Lanie once again.
  • How much do you miss Captain Montgomery?
Castle Season 4 Finale Scene
So TV Fanatics, Season Four of Castle has ended. It was a solid years, with a few ups and downs, but an enjoyable ride all the way through. We have all summer to think about the Caskett hook up and our new villain, Cole Maddox.

September will be here before we know it. See you back here, same time, same place, in the fall.

Paula is right. Castle didn't even look happy.

I agree with Liuska. Why doesn't anyone else see that?

Aw_23 i think Stana has been more of the focus this season, her character has been written with more depth overall. look at the kill shot episode, #9 not #6 as i stated earlier.

I have read a lot of interesting comments about how Castle, should have been with Kate. Not! She trashed his heart, and it only took her almost dying to be honest - about how she feels about Castle. If you notice the last seen, Castle initial behavior is of a man who has been deeply wounded, by the woman he loves. Next, season we will hear Kate tell Castle that she loves him, maybe in the opening season scene, a replay of "handcuffed" would be nice, only this time its for real. Again, "season 4" was a home run season! Here's hoping that the writing stays at this level - the characters deserve a great script!

Amazing finale!! I thought the writers and the actors all really stepped up & nailed it. It drives me nuts how Nathan Fillion gets all the acting credit for this show though. Don't get me wrong, I think he does a great job and was outstanding in this finale. But why does Stana Katic only get a nod for her fight scene? I think she is easily Mr. Fillion's equal when it comes to acting with just a look and often steals the show with the depth of emotion she so honestly portrays. I think she is one of the best actresses on TV right now, bar none. I hope Stana will start to get the credit she deserves for how much she contibutes to making this show so amazing and loveable and the exceptional acting she does on it!!! I think she's phenomenal.

I loved the finale. and yes...FINALLY!!!! The ONLY problem I have with this show is from this season with the introduction of "Sir" Gates. I don't like the character and I don't like the actress. I find her very one dimensional. I really didn't like her when she was the president's wife in 24 and I feel she's bringing the same type of character to this show....the exact same acting. Please, writers...take her out next season!!!

WTG! Great episode, Caskett fans can finally shaddup a' least for awhile. Writers: PLEASE demote/get rid of/mellow out Gates? She brings nothing to the table other than a massive ego and the disposition of a badger. Either straighten her ass out or ship her out. The key to success in Season 5 will be how the writers "grow" the relationship. Since she resigned, maybe she can start her own detective agency? Espo & Ryan will make up, somehow...unless one of them opted not to stay for next season? Hopefully, the writers (probably way too young for first hand knowledge)might channel Nick & Nora Charles rather than Bruce & Sybil. If they have a collective IQ, they will give a little more turf to Lanie and Alexis--there is so much more that could be done with their characters. Will look forward to Sept!

"Casket detective agency?" I totally agree with this. How long can Castle keep hanging out the precinct? Kate and Espo do the heavy lifting and Ryan is their contact on the force. Castle is, of course, his normal charming self. I'd watch that!

It was a wonderful episode. Kate was always going to be raw when it came to her mum's murder or her own shooting. Espo was the who backed her up on this and Ryan and Castle were not. In spite of Castle's "we will do it together another day" did not really happen. True it was Ryan who saved her but now that the audience know that Maddox got to Smith and vowed to put Beckett down, it was and still is her best bet to stay alive by going out for those guys. The deal Smith had struck with the Dragon was flimsy at best. In the end, the dragon sent the sniper after any way albeit after a year. Kate's not saying ILY - does it really need to be said.. on her way to a very concrete death - all she could think of and hear was CASTLE. That was very very poignant.

I love this show and the development of the characters. I was disappointed in the Season Finale. One, we know that Beckett will never give up on finding the man who is responsible for killing her mom. Two, Beckett can be a "rogue" detective. She was a bit out of control; but I would think that Esposito must have had some "friends" to help them if they didn't want to bring in "Gates"- PLEASE GET RID OF HER- ALL SHE DOES IS YELL! SHE IS AN INSULT TO THE TEAM. I miss Montgomery! I love the scene again when she agrees to a "date" night with Castle and again when the "hold hands"- I mean really of course she was going to be pissed that Castle held out on her-pretty naive of Castle to think she wouldn't- but at least he told her how he felt. 3. I also thought the hook up scene was "off". It almost looked like Castle was going to reject her- didn't really feel some of the passion I have felt from them before.
I think it should have ended with Beckett on the swings, Castle deleting his "Beckett files and Cole Madox's appearance with the mystery man. Love Alexis, and how her character is developing- she adds balance to Castle's life- hope she still stays in the script and of course Martha is terrific as always.

Castle Season 4 Episode 23 Quotes

I keep waiting for that other shoe to drop. What if this is that other shoe?

Either this is the most boring dream I've ever had or you can't sleep either.
