Revenge Review: Mutually Assured Destruction

at . Comments

Although last week's Revenge was a blast from the past, "Grief" showed how that history led to the sad and murky present.

Oh Sammy.  The moment I saw him lying in the bar I knew he was a goner. Of course he's got to be the oldest Labrador on record but I'll look past that niggling detail.

Even though I knew it was coming, Sammy's death made me cry. Such a sweet old dog. I felt for both Jack and Emily and, although I was glad they had one another, what I didn't feel was the love connection between them.

I'm sure plenty of fans will disagree with me but I've never felt the chemistry between these two characters and despite Jack's noble ways and righteous attitude, I still haven't warmed to the guy.

Surveilling a Scene

That said, my opinion of Daniel was also plummeting moment by moment. The guy went from wanting to run to Paris to get away from his lying, cheating, family to taking his rightful place at his Daddy's side. What's most disturbing was that he made that drastic change after finding out his father was involved with terrorism and framed and murdered an innocent man to take the fall.

Yeah, Daniel's becoming harder and harder to like.

I really thought Charlotte would be unconscious by the end of this episode. Her parents didn't give a damn about her therapy. Daniel seemed too wrapped up in his wedding to give his sister much attention and then she thought Declan jumped into bed with a Yonkers girl. I was far from shocked when Charlotte scored more pills. What did surprise me was that she wasn't overdosing on the floor of her bedroom by the end of the episode.

So Conrad's been shacking up with Lydia. I've wondered what happened to her after he whisked her out of the mansion. Now the question is whose side will she fall on. Will Lydia grab hold of Victoria's supposed offer of immunity or will she remain loyal to Conrad?

Loved Conrad's thoughts on Victoria in this great Revenge quote:

You look like a demonic succubus. | permalink

Not a bad description of this evil, twisted couple.

But the hero of the episode was definitely Nolan. He encouraged Jack to take the $1 million so that the Graysons would leave him alone. Then he not only jumped in at the last minute and did Emily's recon work, he also kept her from getting herself killed.

If he'd only left it at that. The moment he knocked on the door of the White Haired Man's home, I knew he was doomed. The man's a hired assassin. There's no way he wouldn't smell a con a mile off.

Nolan was so cute as he swelled with pride that he'd won Emily's favor with his exploits. As smart, rich, and powerful as Nolan is, deep inside he's still the lonely outsider looking for acceptance.

Unfortunately, it may have gotten him killed.

Being that Nolan's my favorite character and Emily's only true ally, I have to believe he's simply unconscious and not dead but what's the White Haired Man's plan? Will Nolan still be Emily's right hand man after this incident, assuming he survives? And what will Emily's reaction be when she finds out Nolan's now a target?

What's your guess as to what will happen in next week's season finale of Revenge?

I hate that I saw the photo of Nolan and Emily chained up before seeing this episode. I couldn't enjoy the episode because the whole time I was waiting for that.
As far as Daniel having a master plan, that would be the biggest twist! He just seems so passive and lacking a little common sense. I also kinda think if he had other plans, he'd probably fill Emily in on them, although I can tell his trust is wavering a little.
Nolan is also my favorite character although I must admit Emily has grown on me and I like her a lot more than I initially thought I would. Or maybe I'm just afraid of her!

I don't know if I could stand it if Nolan died. He's just about my favorite on the show. I hope he's not dead, Daniel has turned into a rat. I always like Jack and E/A together. Can't wait until next week, Sorry about Sammy, But gosh he was really really old. Still made me cry,

Grrrrr I hate em with jack! I feel bad for sammy but I hated the kiss between them. Daniel is making me mad right now but Im hoping and praying hes going to turn on conrad. I coulda popped him the way he was talking to her when ashley was over. I hope nolan is okay!

I loved this episode and love this show. Jack is so true, and I believe Emily/Amanda always loved him but her revenge plan will always come first. Nolan is the best! The loss of Sammy was very touching. Anyone notice how Daniel did not even ask about Sammy as Jack was comforting him at the bar? I did not hear Jack call Emily Amanda, but so glad I taped it so I can watch again. This is indeed my favorite show. Thanks to ABC for bringing it back next season (even though it's on Sunday)!

Two theories:
Daniel is working on a way to bring down his parents (especially Dad) which would mean next season would be seeing both him and Em working to destroy the empire and eventually finding out what the other is doing.
Daniel is true Grayson and Em uses her upcoming injuries to subtly renew doubt about his innocence in the media. She of course will deny but everyone will peg him as an abuser.
I want to know what Ashley is going to do with what she saw through the window.
I also heard Jack call her Amanda at the gravesite.

First...I'm a Mike is short for real name.
Jack and Emily/Amanda have a definite "pull toward each other".....they just "know"....but don't realize that Emily is Amanda....and she is scare he will realize and blab. The dog Scene was too sad for enough tears.. We know, those of us who have loved pets...and we always lose. But go on... Emily/Amanda might be getting to DISLIKE her she now realizes he is his fathers son through and through. Will she eventually do away with him? I wouldn't mind. OMG! Nolan can't be dead! He's E/A's only ally....and a great character. Go get'em all E/A!!!!! This is the best show on tv!

I think the writers let daniel find out and made him do nothing about it to push the love triangle. they know most of their viewers don't like jack so they needed to get rid of his competition. honestly she knew him when they were like 8 they didn't talk for like 15 years and they have barely interacted since she has been back its a horrible love story. hoping daniel has something up his sleeve which honestly i think he does. you don't just completely change who you are over night. he is probably protecting victoria from conrads wrath and is gonna take him down himself

Nolan is not dead, that choke hold was just to render him unconscious, of course the white haired guy needs him alive to find out what is really going on. I am sure he heard the conversation Nolan was having but that is not enough info. Now when Ems kills him she will have a real reason it will be to save her and Nolan, so it won't be just a murder. Love how Victoria figured out Conrad's hiding place, she knows him so well. Lydia is tough to figure out here, she is a survivor so she will be trying to figure out which is the winning side before she makes her move. Sammy dying was sad, but come on he was like 100, seriously he should be in the Guiness book... You could see what was going to happen with Declan, I was surprised all he did was make one half hearted "it's not what you think" and then let Charlotte go, he could have explained it easily if he wanted to.

Shae,I too remember the Kelley quote that Jack would not kiss her until he knew she was Amanda, but I think he DID figure it out...the line whizzed by as they stood over the grave, but didn't he call her "Amanda" just before he asked "what are we going to do now" and she replied that she didn't know?

I think Emily and Victoria have more in common than Amanda wants to admit. Conrad is the true villian. I think that eventually we will see these two women team up and start working together. They both want to bring Conrad down. They both still love David. I think Chalotte will somehow bring them unto neutral ground. Already looking forward to next season, and this one hasn't even finished yet.

I will never forget. I will never forgive.

For most the final stage of grief is acceptance but for me, grief is a life sentence without clemency.
