Revenge Review: Mutually Assured Destruction

at . Comments

Although last week's Revenge was a blast from the past, "Grief" showed how that history led to the sad and murky present.

Oh Sammy.  The moment I saw him lying in the bar I knew he was a goner. Of course he's got to be the oldest Labrador on record but I'll look past that niggling detail.

Even though I knew it was coming, Sammy's death made me cry. Such a sweet old dog. I felt for both Jack and Emily and, although I was glad they had one another, what I didn't feel was the love connection between them.

I'm sure plenty of fans will disagree with me but I've never felt the chemistry between these two characters and despite Jack's noble ways and righteous attitude, I still haven't warmed to the guy.

That said, my opinion of Daniel was also plummeting moment by moment. The guy went from wanting to run to Paris to get away from his lying, cheating, family to taking his rightful place at his Daddy's side. What's most disturbing was that he made that drastic change after finding out his father was involved with terrorism and framed and murdered an innocent man to take the fall.

Yeah, Daniel's becoming harder and harder to like.

I really thought Charlotte would be unconscious by the end of this episode. Her parents didn't give a damn about her therapy. Daniel seemed too wrapped up in his wedding to give his sister much attention and then she thought Declan jumped into bed with a Yonkers girl. I was far from shocked when Charlotte scored more pills. What did surprise me was that she wasn't overdosing on the floor of her bedroom by the end of the episode.

So Conrad's been shacking up with Lydia. I've wondered what happened to her after he whisked her out of the mansion. Now the question is whose side will she fall on. Will Lydia grab hold of Victoria's supposed offer of immunity or will she remain loyal to Conrad?

Loved Conrad's thoughts on Victoria in this great Revenge quote:

You look like a demonic succubus. | permalink

Not a bad description of this evil, twisted couple.

But the hero of the episode was definitely Nolan. He encouraged Jack to take the $1 million so that the Graysons would leave him alone. Then he not only jumped in at the last minute and did Emily's recon work, he also kept her from getting herself killed.

If he'd only left it at that. The moment he knocked on the door of the White Haired Man's home, I knew he was doomed. The man's a hired assassin. There's no way he wouldn't smell a con a mile off.

Nolan was so cute as he swelled with pride that he'd won Emily's favor with his exploits. As smart, rich, and powerful as Nolan is, deep inside he's still the lonely outsider looking for acceptance.

Unfortunately, it may have gotten him killed.

Being that Nolan's my favorite character and Emily's only true ally, I have to believe he's simply unconscious and not dead but what's the White Haired Man's plan? Will Nolan still be Emily's right hand man after this incident, assuming he survives? And what will Emily's reaction be when she finds out Nolan's now a target?

What's your guess as to what will happen in next week's season finale of Revenge?

What a great episode last night. You did an excellent recap and commentary. My question is: How will they keep this charade up of Emily's hidden identity and what will the storyline be after Emily takes down the Grayson clan. I hope that Nolan is not killed off. He is one of my favorite characters. However, the best chemistry is between Victoria and Conrad. When they are onscreen the fireworks fly. I hope the writers continue to make great use of these assets. As far as Daniel is concerned, his true colors are beginning to show. He is a Grayson after all. This should make Emily's plan much easier for him, since his diabolical side is coming out more each episode. Now Jack and Declan are an entirely different story. They are underutilized characters. The Jack/Emily love connection is not there. Absolutely no chemistry between them. If you look closely, they both have a dark element to their personalities. However, the writers keep pushing them towards the Knight In Shining Armor character. I hope the writers make the right decision. Next week is sure to be a twister - Can't wait to watch it.

Yes, I do have to disagree.....I've liked Jack since day 1. I feel as if people fell for Daniel simply because he was a pretty face. He's been a deusch since day 1.
The Sammy death made me cry. If you ever had a pet who has died you know how hard that is. Pets give unconditional love.
Nolan isn't dead...and I doubt very much that he would be killed off so soon.

Daniel is the biggest wimp with not an ounce of backbone. He's so lightweight that he's unbelievable to me! Now that he's gone to the dark side, it should make Emily's "revenge" easier.

i know your are not a jack fan but come on jack and emily have chemistry you are just a baised reviewer sorry you only got fourteen comments nobody cares what you have to say jamily forever

I always thought the reason for the lack of chemistry between Jack and Emily was that Emily was holding back so much from him. I feel that they would have great chemistry if Emily acted more like her true self. Also, it makes sense that she would pine for Jack. This was her crush before her world came tumbling down.

I never felt the chemistry between Jack and Emily either and noe it feels they are going to force that couple in our face. Like Nolan said, after all this is done there will be no light at the end of the tunnel. Emily have more chemistry with Aunt Carol than with Jack. The Porter boys make any scene with them depressing. I also love the Conrad and Victoria fued. In other news, I cannot wait for Emily to take down the hit assassin next week.

The Jack/Emily kiss creeped me out. Gross. Victoria and Conrad were hilarious. They are the best part of the show. "The Initiative"? Marc Blucas going to return? Please, please let David Clarke stay dead. I can't stand the man.

Great episode(especially loved Emily's emotionless "imsorry" speech to daniel, complete with eye-roll as well as Nolan calling her a sociopath) All I can coherently say about it is... Well congrats Nolan...your emotions might have just jeopardized everything Emily did and put everyone you care about including her in terrible danger. And she will STILL most likely need to kill the white haired guy next week.

Ha, at one point, Charlotte sounded like RealAmanda. Yonkers is cute. Jack/RealAmanda is one of the stupidest things ever. I'm hoping Daniel's playing a long con. The finale looks insane. Sammy dying was a little sad but come on, he's the Methuselah of labs. Maybe RealAmanda will clone Sammy LOL.

Plus of course I just remembered the set photos from the season finale where he and Ems are chained up in a room. So no, Nolan is not dead. At least not yet.

I will never forget. I will never forgive.

For most the final stage of grief is acceptance but for me, grief is a life sentence without clemency.
