Girls Review: All About Adam

at .

Throughout the first season of Girls, we've followed the trials and tribulations of Hannah's romantic relationship with oddball Adam. In "Weirdos Need Girlfriends Too" we get to explore the next level of Hannah and Adam's relationship, and boy did we really learn a lot!

I truly don't think we would have gotten to this point if Adam hadn't called Hannah out last week on how she was using him. To refresh everyone's memory, he basically said that she got mad for not knowing things about him when truly she'd never even asked. She used him to have sex and to bitch about her workday and nothing more.

Adam Dates Hanna

Now that these two have solidified their relationship as boyfriend and girlfriend, it's ON. It also couldn't come at a worse time for Marnie, but we'll get to her in a minute. There's something to be said for a show that opens with a shot of Trojan Magnum wrappers, used condoms and empty peanut butter jars; way to set the scene!

I think as much as it probably grossed a few people out, especially hearing their dirty talk through the wall, it also set a very distinct tone for Adam and Hannah. It was very uniquely them. That's what I believe Girls does so well. Then you have Marnie crying through the wall as she repeatedly stalks photos of Charlie on Facebook... while listening to Demi Lovato. It's raw and it's real. Even though Marnie once compared Charlie's touch to a "weird uncle" she doesn't want to be alone and she's not ready to see him as happy as he is. Break ups suck.

Since Hannah is on cloud nine, she forgets that she's promised to spend the day comforting Jessa for losing her job. Honestly, it doesn't seem like Jessa needs much comforting; she's pretty self sufficient and always manages to make it on her own. In a turn of events, Jessa ends up comforting Marnie and gets Marnie to admit her biggest insecurities. On a sidenote, it was nice of Adam to briefly comfort Marnie since it's clearly these two don't mesh that well.

This isn't fun for me being the uptight girl. I hate it. | permalink

A pep talk and a few martinis later, Marnie and Jessa are on their way to guest star Chris O'Dowd's apartment. Sufficiently drunk and hellbent on proving she isn't uptight, Marnie kisses Jessa, igniting a brief girl on girl makeout sesh. Jessa is open to it, Marnie is challenging herself to do something different. Chris O'Down just wants IN. Then they accidentally spill some wine on his 10K carpet (seriously?) and he freaks the eff out. Basically the speech that O'Dowd unleashes on Jessa and Marnie is pretty much what I imagine every hater of the show Girls to be saying.

Needless to say, O'Dowd does not get his threesome. In another kinky turn, Hannah does get peed on in the shower. Aside from the shower piss scenario, (John Slattery on Sex and the City anyone?) Hannah and Adam are definitely in some sort of harmony. I'm happy because Hannah seems happy, but I can't help but notice that Adam displays some manic behavior. He has intense mood swings and his attention is all over the place. I am obviously not a therapist, but I've heard many people make this same observation so I thought it was worth pointing it out.

What do you guys think about Adam's mood swings? Are he and Hannah in a good place? Is Marnie really that uptight? Where was Shoshanna? Wtill recovering from the crack? Hit the comments and let us know what you thought of this week's Girls!

Girls Season 1 Episode 8 Quotes

When I broke up with my girlfriend from college, so sad, I lost 30 lbs, I couldn't move or talk or get my dick hard, but it also made me go hey who am I and what do I want?

Adam

Adam: Could you fly?
Hannah: No I couldn't fly, but I didn't have ears that big.
