Pretty Little Liars Review: A Sock Drawer With No Socks

by at . Comments

After one slow week and a lackluster party, Pretty Little Liars THANKFULLY offered another exciting installment this week.

"Remains of the A" shot suspicious evidence at two characters who have mostly escaped scrutiny lately: Ezra and Holden. Ezra's relationship with Aria has mostly shielded him from our accusations and theories (although some fans have been distrustful of his appropriately timed arrival in Rosewood). Holden was another mysterious character until he came clean about his heart condition and carpe diem approach to life

But all the goodwill these characters built up could be thrown out the window as this episode makes us ask how much we should trust them. Or rather, how much Aria should trust them.

Angry Hanna

Could Ezra be A? Or one of A's minions?

Let's take a look at the evidence. Aria finds stacks of cash in his drawer and, unfortunately, we had to wait until the end of the episode for her to ask him about it. Granted, this is a major improvement for the series. It used to be that we'd have to wait weeks before one of the girls would work up the nerve to just ask about suspicious behavior. But Aria is comfortable enough in her relationship to be open and honest with Ezra about what's bothering her (just not about the A drama).

Ezra's excuse seemed really lame. It was like he came up with it really quickly and then tried to distract her by acting so pitiful and embarrassed. And it worked! She immediately felt sympathetic for him and cuddled up on the couch. BUT Ezra shot a look back at his sockless drawer. Where did he get the money?

The most likely source is Jason's reward. Jason made his check out to cash, and that certainly seemed like large amount of cash sitting in Ezra's drawer. Any other thoughts about where it might have come from?

In other relevant revelations, Emily began having more flashbacks about the crazy night she wound up next to an empty grave. Apparently, at one point she stopped at a diner. Must've been a long evening. What was interesting about this memory was that she wasn't with Jenna; there was a man with her. This guy had a mysterious stamp of an eye on his wrist, and Emily saw this same stamp on Holden's wrist at the church dance.

What was Holden doing at the church? Was he following the instructions Hanna left with Garrett's mom? It seemed awfully coincidental that he would pop up again in the same place that the girls set up to trap A. We haven't really seem him since "CTRL-A." But we're not even sure that A read the note. Wilden intercepted it at some point and decided to wait around at the church, as well as harass the Marin girls. That guy is the biggest creep on the show! (and that's saying a lot!)

Holden definitely knows something. He tells Emily he saw her girlfriend once at the club where he got the stamp, but runs off when she presses him for more information. Emily can't quite remember the face of the guy with her at that diner; she can remember the back of his head and even that image is a little fuzzy. It could be anyone, but the hairstyle seems to suggest its Holden...or maybe even Ezra. So, who was with Emily at the diner?

Other than offering us some great suspects to consider, the episode also delivered a key piece of evidence. Jason finally tells Spencer the truth about the N.A.T. club. There were three members that Jason knew of him: himself, Garrett and Ian. Ian did the videotaping, but Jason thought that maybe Ian was taping for someone else too. And there were other girls involved who might have been setting up their own friends. Sounds like something Ali might do, right?

The brother and sister team, Spencer and Jason, find out that April Rose is an antique shop. The store has a some pretty damning evidence too - Ali's anklet. Luckily, they turn it over to the police. But the evidence doesn't help things out in the way Spencer expected. Instead of proving that Garrett is a killer, the anklet actually does the opposite. It has blood from both Ali and an unknown third party. Spencer has a very uncharacteristic breakdown when she finds out that Garrett's case has been dismissed.

Wow! That's a whole lot of stuff to think over before next Tuesday's installment, so be sure to check out our PLL Round Table later this week as we explore some of our big (and not so big) questions from the evening.

I've always suspected Ezra in the back of my head since season 1, I don't know if anyone remembers but in he episode A sent Ella the letter about Byron and Meredith, it was made on a typewriter and in the very same episode they placed an unusual focus on an old typewriter sitting in Ezra's loft. I kinda want him to be part of the A-team as well, it would explain why the A-team always cuts Aria so many slack and why their relationship is never really knocked down a peg like the other liars. Another thing I was thinking at te end; wouldn't it be so cool if Spencer actually did kill Ali, her appearance from outside was very unusual and it would explain why she always works the hardest to figure out A as well as her unusual breakdown at the end. The dude at the diner could still be Lucas, I really doubt it's Holden for some reason. Also I don't know about you guys, but I still do't trust Jason, he ied to Spencer about the reward and suddenly he's working just as hard to help her. Something smells fishy. Season 3 is turning out be my favourite season so far. I'm really enjoying the girls taking control and Aria hasn't managed to annoy me once this season.

Spencer and Hanna are my favorite ones but I couldn't stand them this episode. I knew Garrett wasn't the killer all along. It be exciting if Ezra is part of Team A. Why can't Wilden let Hanna mom be happy for once. I think the person Emily met at the diner was Holden.

Sorry I don’t know why pieces pf my comment got mixed up like that while sending it! Here it is the right one: The guy who brought Emily to the diner could be Lucas as well, his hair is curly and brown while Ezra's is more straight and short. Aria found the blue pills among Lucas' stuff, and as we have seen he's been acting like a freak lately, probably cause A is blackmailing him to have him doing his/her/their dirty work. When Emily read the description of the pills she found out that they are used also to calm down aggressive behaviours in psychiatric patiens, just like the crazy behaviour Mona had with Caleb. Like Caleb says she might be faking it, of course to avoid going to jail and maybe also to exploit the chance to get useful stuff for the A team! So she might have staged scenes like that before to get the pills and give them to Lucas (we know he’s been visiting multiple times).

I can't see Spencer is crying.

I think it would be kind of great if Ezra was part of the A team. It would definitely add a much needed new dynamic to his character. Besides, I know that I'm in the minority here, but I just don't really see/feel the chemistry between him and aria that others seem to. I'm not against their relationship, but I would not be bothered if they didn't last as a couple. Their relationship just seems kind of off to me. It may just be because the actress who plays aria looks like she is 14 though. Not really sure.

i really want to like this show but its starting to annoy me
we dont hear anything about the nat club and it just pops and jason is like yep we filmed girls (creppy)
and i did i miss something when did aria start living with ezra..??

Um why are people being quick to judge Ezra? I mean, isnt it common knowledge that he comes from a very wealthy family? His mum might have helped him and he could not tell Aria because he doesn't want her to worry or his patriarchal notion of a man must provide kicked in. I really hope my theory is right, because otherwise if he turns out to be part of A, wow. It is going to shock and disturb me.

I feel like this season of Pretty Little Liars is just stalling and taking for forever, like tonight episode was not so good and the girls didnt even do anything expect Spencer who found the braclet that had blood still in it. Plus we already knew Garrett wasnt the killer so no big shock there. All in all i still love Pretty Little Liars, I just feel this season isnt as great as season 1 and 2. I feel very bad for Spencer, she reached a point where she no longer can take A anymore, shes giving up, its nice to see a softer side of her but its also sad seeing that she isnt the strongest girl of the pack, she always was the leader believe it or not, very smart, always figure out the clues, but this new A has gotten to her. On the other hand I love this new Hanna, shes gotten big balls, she isnt afarid to get to the bottom of who this new A is, Plus she has all the great lines this season. Hanna has gotten to the point where she is tried of A and wants to end it and move on with her life. WTF is going on with Erza, he better not be part of the A team.

Pretty Little Liars Season 3 Episode 6 Quotes

Hanna, will you slow down? I almost tripped over a catheter back there that was still attached to someone.

Spencer

Spencer: Just be careful and wear sensible shoes.
Hanna: I wear three inches or nothing.
