The Big Bang Theory Review: Homeostasis For Now

at . Comments

Where are the laughs? Okay, there were a few, but something is just a bit off with The Big Bang Theory this season, as "The Decoupling Fluctuation" followed the mundane path of the premiere.

None of the stories worked for me: not the relationship woes, not Howard in space and especially not Stuart joining the group. While there were a few funny lines scattered throughout the 30 minutes, overall, it was lacking in the laughs department.

Sheldon Tries To Invervene

Why can't Penny and Leonard be happy for once? As soon as they get together, the writers  pull them apart. It's one thing for them to have issues in their relationship, but having Penny doubt their entire future is annoying.

I want to see them together in a real, committed, loving relationship for once. That can be funny! Amy and Sheldon's relationship is given more respect and that's saying a lot. The writers seem to running out of ideas, because they keep going back to old stories. Sheldon having to keep a secret again? Boring.

I was excited by the idea that we would get to see Howard in space. The potential fodder of space is being ignored for more of the same. Howard's relationship issues with Bernadette and his mother aren't new. The best they have is the other astronauts bullying him - why stay in space for that? He's been picked on plenty on Earth.

I'd love to see humor driven by the space station, the lack of gravity or interacting with the other astronauts in a confined space. The unique environment is being underutilized.Though Howards F-Loops face was worth a few chuckles. As was Sheldon's insistence at making walkie-talkie sounds during their video chat.

Stuart looks to be sticking around, since actor Kevin Sussman has been upgraded to a series regular on the show. It's nice for Raj to have someone to hang out with, but I hope he becomes more integrated into the group. He stuck out like a third wheel throughout the episode.

While that was probably supposed to be funny, I just felt bad for him. The Wolowitz-replacement jokes fell flat and the coffee and creamer one wasn't much better. As his character gets more rounded out, he should bring more laughs.

With all my complaining, there were some funny and touching moments. I've mentioned some above and a few more were the transformers conversation between Leonard and Sheldon, Leonard's puppy dog eyes, and Sheldon's visit to Penny's bedroom.

Sheldon's comment that he didn't want to see his friend hurt was one of the most sensitive things he has ever said. A little salty water may have accumulated in my eyes at that moment. He does have a heart.

Was I too tough on the episode? Or do you agree that The Big Bang Theory is missing its comedic mojo? I have my fingers crossed that the Penny and Leonard situation will correct itself with comedic gold!

There were a few humorous lines. Make sure to check out our The Big Bang Theory quotes for some laughs.

I gotta say....who the hell cares if Leonard and Penny work out or not. It's a TV show and they're ficional people. It's also a comedy and not a Rom/Com....I would hate to see Leonard and Penny turn into Jim and Pam 2.0. I honestly would hate to see Leonard and Penny together b/c I don't think she wants to be with him at all. I just like watching this show because it's funny. Not because I'm a sap who wants to see two ficticious people get together on a TV show...

文人相轻. 我学数学的时候, 更是觉得学科学在境界上都逊了一等. 而数学中, 如高斯所说, 以number theory 为.过现在开始实际工作, 看法完全了. 倒是基辛格所言对我有了共鸣: uinevrsity politics are so vicious precisely because the stakes are so small.

A pretty mediocre(not entirely bad)episode. I think the best moment was the scene in the movie theater. The scene in Penny's bedroom could be much, better. These two can be terribly funny together but this wasn't their best moment. I wasn't touched by Sheldon's: Please don't hurt my friend, it seemed so out of character with him. The Leonard-Penny relationship is a total mess, I'm afraid. And please, Howard MUST return from space soon!

I don't get what Penny's problem with Leonard is. She ditched him for moving too fast, regretted it especially when he found Pria and now that she's got him back, she doesn't find him exciting enough. Exactly what's so exciting about her? Leonard could hold the attention of a capable attorney and that hot girl who wrote a comic book but not this cute airhead? It might be plausible if she admitted she feared her lack of culture and formal education was going to bore him but anything else sounds ridiculous.
As for Sheldon and Amy, it's time to make this girl over. The actress who plays Amy is pretty in real life and since the only thing that would make Sheldon change is jealousy, it would help things along if she attracted a gorgeous guy's attention (ie NOT the comic book store keeper).

Excellent review!! Writing a situation comedy must be seems that once great shows start to slip at some point; with the exception of Seinfeld. That show never forgot its core: Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer. The writing revolved around those central characters, and that was the secret to their success. TBBT must be testing well with 14 year old girls, as the scripts seem to reflect that. I implore the writers and producers to please return to the core: two geeky roommates and their two friends. Let the stories reflect their world..yes, girlfriends, wives, boyfriends (?) are a part of it, but not the center. Go back to the center: four guys, science, nerds, ComicCon, and awkwardness. I will keep watching, and I hope that the comedy makes a return. There are so many ways to continue the high level of comedic genius here. Just please, please, leave the drama/love/marriage/soap opera themes for other shows!

great review. I actually turned it off out of boredom and utter frustration when Sheldon had to keep a secret, going back and forth with Sheldon about not telling. EXACT episode from previous season. Writers need to realize that with today's technology, we are watching episodes over and over, back to back, so we remember more clearly past plots. I am disappointed so far with the first two episodes.

Spot on review. I love the show but had an 'Oh no!' moment when they (the writers) started harping on about Penny not being happy with Leonard AGAIN. They suit each other, I'd appreciate it if their relationship could be explored in a positive way happy couples can be funny too, more funny than miserable Penny and Leonard at the very least. I like Stuart in the show but don't think I'd like him to replace Walowitz as Raj's new bessie, as mentioned elsewhere perhaps as his boyfriend :).

The way Penny treats Leonard is starting to annoy me. She wasn't sure 2 seasons ago, she isn't sure this season. Not only do I hope Leonard breaks things off, I hope he ends up with a girlfriend and she's chasing him for a change. The way she has dragged him along by a string is really making me not like the Penny character.

I laughed! And to be honest i prefer storytelling than just joke after joke like sometimes last season

I loved this episode!! Everything worked for me!

The Big Bang Theory Season 6 Episode 2 Quotes

Sheldon: Wolowitz when to MIT. What's your educational background?
Stuart: I went to art school.
Sheldon: Equally ridiculous. Let's go.

Whenever I'm around Sheldon, I feel like my loins are on fire. In the good way. Not in the urinary tract infection way.
