"Honestly, I started watching tonight with the hope that Leonard would realize that the relationship was going nowhere and break up with Penny. Last episode seemed to hint that Leonard was getting tired of her indecisiveness, and i wanted to see that followed up on"
Me too. If they do break up, I really hope it will be Leonard breaking things off. Maybe this could be Penny's wake up call, and if not, it would at least give Leonard some back bone.
Sheldon and Penny's late night part had me lol but overall the story didn't have enough context to watch it again. Same old same old story lines and I'm beginning to get tired of Howard being in space since it has only him skyping with people with recurring story lines such as bullying.
Seriously needed to have some classic TBBT episode next week IMO.

I used to love penny but they are really making it hard these days. They broke up before because of the I love you and then she pursued him again so I don't get her problem. And plus what is with her being an alcoholic all of a sudden she is seriously drinking in almost every scene. And I'm almost positive they are goin to have raj be gay

So, part 3, looking at Penny as a party girl only (or mainly), she well could be terminally bored -- except that such a person in real life might grow up ... or go off and eventually marry someone she can't stand anymore. All of which seems too sophisticated for this show. So, how do they get out of it, meaning that if they break up now, again, I don't see what any of the other characters would have in common with her anymore?

Also, @Sue Ann, dividing my comments, I never considered Penny as a party girl character before. I always thought of her how Marilyn Monroe could not only be married to an intellectual (Arthur Miller), but be friends with many more (Carl Sandburg, for one); or Jessica Simpson hanging out at Cowboys Stadium with a bunch of super powerful Texans, including President George W. Bush, and her talking on TV after, pleased with herself, about all of them teasing her about how dumb she was, or dumb things she said or somesuch. What occurs to me is that Penny is only a wannabe, that MM and Simpson weren't/aren't party girls, or not only, but ambitious and successful.

@Sue Ann -- This works, the way you did your comments, dividing them. You very thoughtfully expressed a thing that bothers me about this show. I read once that love creates equals. I could be overlooking some dialogue, but Leonard always seems to treat what she thinks as important. They also "relate" what happens in their lives to each other. It's Sheldon who tells everyone how stupid they are -- everyone.

Part Three:
There are many possibilities. Just don't pick that one.
Note to the editors: There are not all that many of us who are inclined to write essays about these shows, and those who are so inclined do not always do it. It really was kind of mean to limit the word count on us.

Part Two:
If the writers break up Penny and Leonard again, it would be a grievous mistake. Leonard knows there's something not right; he tried to get her to talk to him about the future. She refused to do it. But her inability to admit she loves him is indicative of a serious problem.
There are endless possibilities in working through her problems in a loving relationship with a man who is dazzled by her. The possibilities in showing how she has hurt Leonard yet again and herself in the process, are not funny. It wasn't very funny the first time. I like Wil Wheaton, but I was quite ticked with his (fake) character for deliberately breaking them up when that happened. This show sometimes goes over the edge into cruelty, and really, it is not funny. Hurting this couple again for lack of something better to do would signify to me that the network should not give this one any more multi-year renewals. The well would have run dry. There are many possibilities. Just don't pick that

I watched it on the internet this morning, and have been thinking about it. I do not like the hints that Penny and Leonard will be breaking up again, because I do think they belong together. However, viewed from her standpoint, it has to be kind of tiresome to always be the dumbest person in the room. Even self-styled "Bestie" Amy was making fun of her to Bernadette in this episode.
Everyone except Bernadette condescends to her, either to her face or behind her back. I myself would not tolerate it for a second. On the other hand, as she complained a few seasons back, being with these guys has spoiled the dumb guys for her. She can't put up with them any more. Penny really is in a difficult position; her despair is quite logical. Leonard is not a party boy. Penny was a party girl, and she hasn't shown any inclination to settle down.
If the writers break up Penny and Leonard again, it would be a grievous mistake. Leonard knows there's something not right; he tried to get her

I just hope that Raj can be happy this season, I'm getting really tired of this "Im so lonely" drama, and if they want to be bold and stop hinting he's kinda gay, just get him and Stuart together! I'm loving that couple, and I think they would be happy and funny together! they both need so much love! :)
Penny being afraid of relationships is sooooo boring and tiring! The Shamy is the cutest thing, and Sheldon wanting to keep Leonard from harm is truly heartwarming for the self appointed half vulcan. Howard... dont care. More Raj being happy would be nice. (with Stuart lol)

It's time that Penny and Leonard "Put on their big girl/boy panties and deal with their "relationship" once and for all." Or is everyone in TV land this disfunctional?
Sheldon needs to go. No normal person would deal with anyone on a regular basis that is so far out of reality, unless it was a well paying job. I will mute the sound whenever he has the dialog.

I am very happy with the review - for once, someone is speaking up and calling out the mediocrity this show has succumbed to. I completely agree with you about the recycled jokes, penny's flakiness (and the writers are forcing me to hate her now - what's with her mimicking leonard's expression? since when has she gotten mean and condescending?) and the hopelessly underutilized space station situation. adding people to the series regular list is NOT the soln to the lack of storylines the writers are clearly facing. this is not the big bang theory i fell in love with. and it seems like it won't get better in the weeks to come either. thanks for the review - i'm glad to see people are talking abt the show's un-funniness.

I was hoping penny would say i love u instead of wanting to break up. I am tired of the wishy washy penny. I am tired of them dragging it out. Leonard is a great guy, with a great job penny, wise up! Plus he loves u madly. Stop dating the losers and realize you have no future with them.

Wow, tough critics. As soon as this episode started, I was totally satisfied that they were back on track. Lat week's opener was slow, but, that's good. You wouldn't want to blow all the good stuff first, and then have a lackluster season, like the Cubs. BTW, my new fave Big Bang Theory line, ever,'Penny, please don't hurt my friend'. No, it's not funny. So what !

The Penny-Leonard thing is a downer - and the sad part is that they're funniest when they're happy together. There's always been a nice, easy banter between them. ("Leonard gots to get paid.") Leonard is too nice a guy for them to have any real issues other than Penny's boredom. They can't even work up any funny arguments, and their arguents are rarely funny, anyway. We've already watched them break up once. Do we have to wacth them do it again?
And the space station thing is a fizzle. Toilet jokes? Come on. There was only one funny space toilet joke, and that was in "2001: A Space Odyssey."

I found this episode to be good. I thought Howard would be back from space last episode but oh well. Stuart was a bit weird... Amy and Bernadette were the highlights for me, as was Sheldon's infamous knock in Penny's bedroom! I think it has just started a bit slow. Next episode looks promising, with Amy jealousy (Mayim Bialik is PERFECT for this role!) Although I am most excited for episode FOUR, where Howard comes back from space and there is a Boys vs Girls competition! Hilarity WILL continue!

I liked this episode, even if the "secret" story was already done in second season, but here was treated in a different way so is a little "new"...
Yes, I think they're working too much on Leonard/Penny story, I don't like all this "yes... no... but... yes" from Penny, is annoying; instead I really love how they are going on (slowly) with the Shamy story, they are really cute together.
Leonard's puppy eyes were priceless!
Waiting for the real bang of this season.

I'm giving this show one more episode if it looks like they are going to break up L & P again I'm done....how can they have Penny break his heart again.....the way the write her is so annoying she loves him but doesn't love him it's just plain silly. I completely agree with this weeks reveiw so much is lacking this season so far...not very funny and can we please have these relationships grow like people do....

I love The Big Bang Theory but (as most shows), I think the writers are running out of ideas. I do not want to see Leonard and Penny break-up and I think it would be funny if Sheldon and Amy got into a (more) steamy relationship. There relationship is getting a bit boring. I love Howard in space and his mother and wife rivalry. (that's funny). I am not sure about the new character because you always see him in the comic book store. They will need to integrate him into the group more.

I suppose it's possible that bored astronauts would treat Fruit Loops as they are -- but I've always gotten the impression when astronauts are talking that it's also a fraternal relationship, that only so many have ever been to space and that they regard each other, from mission specialists to crew, as that military-like "band of brothers."

I like the comic store guy joining their social circle (and think the jokes about it are just the ones they've put on a list to use. It's sort of sad that he wants so much to be a part of them -- but eventually the writers will use up all the jokes about that and we'll get a different plot thread.

I like Penny and Leonard together and admit, and maybe that reflects on how good of a fan of the show I am/am not, but I stopped watching it when they were broke-up and only started to watch it again once they got back together. What I think is that the show's creator's/driving force are comics and they'll go plot wise wherever a joke takes them (which doesn't mean that Penny and Leonard are breaking up for sure, only that they thought of some jokes and are taking the story that way until they use them up).

This season has definitely lacked something so far. The whole Leonard and Penny thing has gotten out of hand. The entire time Leonard was with Priya, Penny pined away about the mistake she made. Now she gets him back and she doesn't know how she feels. It's almost like the writers want us to hate Penny now. If they break up again there is no going back for these two. This relationship will be over. My only hope is that Penny will have some kind of epiphany and realize she is being a dumb a$$.
