I thought I might not like this special episode but I actually really did. It was intense, funny, no time to get bored and the split screens were well done, just don't see the point in the echo effect on their voice ?

I'm so sad for Dr Thomas of course, and for Cristina as well, but I said it weeks ago already, it was very predictable that he would die and that Cristian would eventually come back to Seattle.

Once again, Shonda totally missed her chance to honour Lexie's memory, it feels like that character didn't matter at all. Sure Meredith needed to accept it, and it's done at the end, but where was the emotion ? I'm disappointed and I hope Lexie will be mentioned again in the future.

I miss Mark. The show isn't the same without him.

This reminded me of the Grey's of the past. I absolutely loved it. I wasn't connecting with the episodes so far this season-it seemed like a different show. I am so happy the story line has gone back to what made this show-Mer and Christina.

It was a lovely episode. I just watched it for the second time. I wondered what would bring Cristina back to Seattle, and Dr. Thomas' death is sad, but perfect. I don't think she would have left if he were still there. Personally, I thought it would be Parker letting him go and Cristina would just go back because it was wasn't the hospital she thought it was; this was much better.

I really want to see Alex get more of a story. The guy really needs a love that won't go crazy this time.

Curse you again Shonda Rhimes. Oh you are breaking my heart!! But that means you are doing great work. This was a very emotional episode for me. The death of Dr. Thomas...oh..he brought out a quality and humbleness in Christina, this friendship was true, they understood each other, he understood her, he gave her confidence and humlility, she loved him and he her and you broke my heart again Shonda. I believe this man forver Chnaged Christina and we will see a different more understanding Christina with her patients. Keep up the good work.

I was so excited to learn that c was comin back for good and i cant wait for her to get back together with owen because they compliment each other and she had to learn that it isnt always about her

also so sad about thomas he was a wise old man and taught her compassion and that sometimes the old way works better

i did feel like this episode has nothing to do with lexie she saved a girls life thats her job she is a doctor even if she so called the same injuries will she have let her die thats not very doctorly

and for those criticizing mer about zola she was concerned about her daughter she gave her to ppl that she knew very well but they passed her off which caused her too be very upset but i love the potty training moment she is turning to be the mother she never had

i still miss mark and lexie awkward elevator and hall way moments

John Boothe: yes, Dr. Thomas was so much like his St. Elsewhere character! When Dr. Parker called him Craig, I seemed so familiar that I thought maybe it was the same character (just no one made the connection overtly).

I was very sad when he died. It was not unexpected, since he clearly was not going to retire. And I think only his death could send Cristina back to Seattle. I loved the banter between C. and Dr. Thomas, and she learned so much from him.

I didn't feel that the story that Meredith was working through Lexie's death worked that well. Though she was there and doing as much as she could, I couldn't really feel that Mer's emotion was that connected to Lexie, and her acceptance of Lexie's death at the end worked well. I agree with others that say that Lexie should be remembered more often. I also had difficulty with Mer putting Zola in second place the whole episode, sometimes not knowing who she was with. It felt like she was being like her mother (though her mot

I enjoyed everything about this episode except for passing the kid around. I realized that we are required to suspend reality when we watch make believe TV, but even in Dr. Grey's wacky world, she would have found a safe haven for her daughter straight away. No mother allows her kid to be passed around for hours and hours.

  9. Guess

One more think i'm remembering. 'Yet when it comes to Owen Shonda made sure it was shown why he cheated'...but you didn't see one single scene on screen with he actually screwwing the other woman. Yet when it comes to Cris she made sure that all of us have seen her with another man...several times.
Do you know what that means? I do.

  10. Guess

Brandi,'cristina is a married woman' Is she ? It is a paper which makes a marriage? Because at this point it's only a matter of paperwork that keeps them connected. That paper is the only thing that keeps them connected and is the only bridge to the overzealousness regarding female morality.
Shonda is always dubious, but here that wasn't her point. What she truly wants is that many more women come here to these forums and scream what a bad wife Cristina is. In that line of thinking, she can call Owen the poor victim and justify is cheating on his wife. That's precisely what she wants: recover Owen to fans eyes. Insinuate Cristina is cheating when even Shonda doesn't really believe it. See the story very careful and see if that isn't what she wants. Put Cris sleeping with other one was a low blow.
Yes, this show has double standars for men. Always justify their sickning actions. It is called sexism and misogeny.

I totally enjoyed the focus and thought Shonda was pulling out all the stops and tugging at our heartstrings in many different ways. For one, it became clear last night that Meredith was no longer an intern, or a doctor in training but a real, professional and respected doctor. That's been a long road. Christina has never listened to anyone but we always knew she was brilliant. The dialogue about that was like something out of Atlas Shrugged and I think it will forever give her the confidence she needs to be who she is and that's that! Having figured all that out, she needed to return to Meredith. Both women are now fully realized and fulfilled (for the time being) and I think their new found courage and sense of accomplishment will only deepen their affection for one another. Finally, some of life's biggest tests were taken...and they both passed with flying colors!

Kicked this show to the curb after the Denny the Ghost season ....are they all still doing each other ? Nothing more boring than sex on commercial network channels ...let me watch paint dry instead !!!

At first I wasn't a big fan of this episode. The bits with Zola and Meredith were very cute and sad.. (When meredith was about to cry after dropping zola off at callis) but the telephone calls between christina and meredith and the split screens were getting annoying.. I just wanted christina to come home. So I was surprise yet sooo happy at the end !! I'm hoping the season gets better because the few episodes for this have been boring...

I thought this episode was FABULOUS!!!

I hope to goodness that the horrible Izzie isn't coming back, I will have to give up watching Grey's if she does, she is a dreadful actress and it was the best episode since this program started when she left.

  16. Matt

The line of the night "I am not a little spoon. I am a knife and I am going to stab you in the eye."

I loved this episode. I hate that Dr Thomas died but he taught Christina humility. I am so glad she is going to be back at SGH. I loved the preview where the Interns said she was so mean. LOL. I hope she and Hunt get back together. Meredith's part was so touching, watching her try to take care of the patient who to her was Lexie, so glad that the patient survived, and watching her trying to be a Mommy too and feeling so torn between her baby and her patient. She is so not like her Mom. Also the homeage was paid to Lexie and her relationship with Meredith. I can't wait to see the other episodes with Christina back and what trouble the 2 of them will get into together. The twisted sisters are back. Now if Izzie could come back just for a few episodes. I hope before the entire series ends she does come back at least for one episode.

I’m sure many of us (or had someone on our behalf) to step up an internet payment for their parents because the vendor no longer accepted in-store or mail-in payments.

Dr Thomas will be sorely missed

But much like parents would, he checks on Cristina.

What I found quite neat was that Dr Thomas’s parental attitude toward Cristina isn’t one sided. It works in reverse as well. Cristina’s behavior toward Dr Thomas is much like an adult child behaving to his/her parents. In episode four, when Dr Thomas performed the surgery using more up-to-date method, Dr Thomas was having trouble and was about to quit. However, Cristina helps him by telling him to “turn his right wrist like this”. Cristina essentially saved him from being forced to retire.
With the changing technology, there’s a clear ageism in the society. It is almost as if not being able to use computers or being less sensitive to changes in technology is forcing older generation to be pigeon holed and retire. This is much like Dr Thomas’s case. So, often times children of those older generation steps in to “save” their parents. I’m sure many of us (or had someone on our behalf) to step up an inter

A tricky area for most parents, especially for those with adult children, is stepping in their children’s lives and encouraging or suggesting something to their kids without being seen as the meddler. But Dr Thomas did this quite well. He understood Cristina. He probed her with the right amount of judgement and criticism without sending her into a rage.

Like most parents, he has high expectations of Yang and believes that she’s great. This is shown when he tells her that she will be the surgeon of her generation (s9e5).

And let’s not forget the most important characteristic of parents: being there for you to give you a hug. A hug is warm embrace and a sign of caring. At the end of episode 3, Dr Thomas offers Cristina a handkerchief. Although they don’t physically hug, Dr Thomas’s action of handing Cristina a handkerchief is a sign of caring. He could’ve just behaved indifferently toward Cristina’s situation and let her be. But much like parents would,

His "you impressed? ... [You are] just too prideful to admit it. But that's okay" line was delivered with nurturance. He showed that his move was more appropriate to the patient but didn’t shame Cristina for having insisted less beneficial method. He then went on to explain how his method is done.

His attentive to Cristina was further shown when he continued on to say, "Because I devoted my life to doing it...so, what is your signature move, hmm? Life is short. You've seen that yourself. So, you better get at it". He recognized that Cristina doesn’t have a signature move. Rather than giving her strict orders to develop her own or abasing her for falling short, he reminded her that life is short and art isn’t created overnight. His care of Cristina was shown when he suggested her to “better get at it”.

I’ve always been okay with characters dying in Grey's. But I cannot stand that Dr Thomas died.

I see two plausible reasons for Dr Thomas’s death: To bring Cristina back to Seattle or to illustrate that devoted surgeons like Cristina and Dr Thomas who has “little regard for anything but their craft” (s9e5) will go down fighting for what they love to do.

I personally felt that Dr Thomas’s death was as mournful as George, Lexie and Mark’s even though his character was more recently introduced. I wasn’t sure why at first, then I realized that because Dr Thomas wasn’t just her mentor – but the way I saw it, he parented her like a way you would "parent" an adult child.

He was attentive to Cristina and her cared about her development as a surgeon. In episode three, when he showed her his signature move, he wasn't being a boastful jerk. He wasn't taking a holier-than-thou stand or flaunted that his method was superior to Cristina’s beloved LVAD suggestion.

  23. Brandie

Cristina may not be "cheating" by your definition but she's a married woman sleeping around, physically separated or not. Rationalize it anyway you want to. The thing that bugs me is how Shonda is ambiguous when it comes to controversy as far as Cristina is concerned. It was never made clear on screen if she and Owen were talking divorce or legal separation. It was never made clear how she ended up with Parker being her sex friend. And I still am curious how she got pregnant the second time, negligence on her part or failed birth control? The answers to these questions are not factual. Yet when it comes to Owen Shonda made sure it was shown why he cheated. I like Cristina and Owen and want them back together but I get sick of the double standard for males on this show.

  24. guest

Cristina is not cheating. They're separated. On a break. Even KMK said so. She's free to do whatever she wants and with whom she wants to.

To be fiercely critical because a woman sleeps with another man after her husband have betrayed and being separated both emotionally and physically but minimize his fault for sleeping with another woman while they were still under the same roof and there had been no separation and while she was trying to mend things the best way she knew, can only come from the mouth of another woman.
For me is incredible how women can be so mean at each other. Christ!
    DOUBLE STANDARDS MUCH?!
Stop pity man who do this. There wasn't excuse for what he did. If he was so unhappy with her should have left her. Divorce.

    What a fantastic episode!
One of the best in Grey's history!
I knew Christina was heading back to Seattle when she was sitting alone near the end, her friend and new mentor died and she had no reason to stay. I knew she would show up at Meredith's but it still made me cry!
Whether Mer was trying to save that woman because she felt it was similar to Lexie or not, just goes to show that she is a fantastic surgeon.
Now that Christina is back I hope there hope for her and Owen.
