How I Met Your Mother Review: Trapped In the Closet

at . Comments

The gang gave Robin an intervention this week on How I Met your Mother, as she struggled to accept Barney's new relationship.

"The Over-Correction" was plagued by some overacting in the beginning, but steadily gained momentum over the course of the episode, much like we have seen in recent weeks.

If Robin was so sure Barney's feeling for Patrice were not genuine, she would not have gone to such lengths to find and show her The Playbook. It's clear she still has feelings for Barney, which is why the others staged the intervention. Fortunately for fans of the show, that confrontation came after she broke into Barney's apartment because it was the stage for the best scenes by far.

Barney Worries His Friends

Just when you thought you had seen all the amazing amenities in Barney's Bat Cave of an apartment, Robin uncovered a slew of secret compartments. Ted delivered another solid performance, too, as he tried to lure Barney from his domicile with apparent sightings of Hugh Hefner and Bon Jovi. I also liked how his collection of lost things kept surfacing, the best of which were his red cowboy boots.

I don't think Lily would have wished her father's naked body on her worst enemy, including her nemesis mother-in-law. While I agreed with Barney that everyone deserves to be happy, it didn't make it any less repulsive. Marshall and Lily sharing the shame blanket in the closet was a very funny reaction, though.

The underlying theme of the over-correction was a good one. Marshall's funny fish name routine has been done before and then some, but the Andrew Dice Clay and Chris Rock versions were a great twist on a classic How I Met your Mother joke. Robin screaming at Patrice is also nothing new, as Ted pointed out in my favorite How I Met Your Mother quote of the week. There was no new approach to this routine, but it still made me laugh on each occasion.

The show has been sporting a bit of a limp on How I Met Your Mother Season 8, but I can't deny seeing a little more get up in it's giddy up as of late. What did you think?

This show should be called "How I Met Your Father" because of the one who came out of the closet.

This episode was really funny, I loved it all, from the scenes at Barney's apartment to Marshall and Lily's parents without forgetting Ted being tired of the others stealing stuff from him and... the wonderful Robin who was just hilarious through the whole episode. I still don't really get the deal with Patrice, it may be indeed to make Robin jealous and eventually get her. It's obvious that she loves Barney.
Yet this season is pretty slow, it's lacking direction...

Tired of these fillers. Seriously need some mother context thrown in to next episode. Marshall's Mom with Lily's Dad..Ew!!! that is just bottom of the drain for HIMYM writers. Good luck on next Gig coz it might be awhile. There were some characters of this show that highlights certain qualities like mothers love and dad's being there for the child. But destroying all that character build up like that. Just the worse.

Prediction- barney and Patrice are faking this relationship in order for barney to propose to robin on the Christmas episode. And barney knew robin was in the closet the whole time

Drea xoxo

wait sidenote i thought this was the last season? why am i hearing talks of more. the writers finally gave us the biggest clue about the mother and now we aren't nowhere remotely near this significant moment. again i will keep asking why would his children need to know about these pointless fillers. they dont even make sense let alone be entertaining. will admit today brought laughs but not rofl more oh i get it lol. overall skip to the wedding and the meeting. refuse to comment on the gross things that happened this episode because none of them made sense again they wanted laughs smh

the episodes are getting better and funnier.

I think Barney knew Robyn was hiding in his apartment. Her purse and him leaving with Patrice so everyone could leave.

I loved Ted's/Lily's milkbag :D and the fact that "Property of Ted Mosby" stood on every small thing that we saw in this episode. That seems like something only Ted would do :D Hilarious! Barney actually burning the playbook was the biggest shock! Now I really believe the good old days are over and Barney's ready to settle down with Robin. =)

I thought that the Ted's things' joke was funny at first and then ended up extremely overused, as if every single damn thing that appeared in that episode belonged to Ted. Im not even gonna start on Marshall's mom and Mickey's coupling cause that just grossed me out.
But the thing that bothered me the most in this episode was Robin. She used to be such a strong female character, and now they've turned her into the psycho/insanely-desperate ex-girlfriend. It's ridiculous! And apparently next week she's gonna try to get Patrice fired. SERIOUSLY? She's acting as if she had the Crazy Eyes! How low can the writers make Robin get? Enough so that Barney getting back together with her will be out of pity?
I miss the good old days of the Hot/Crazy scale, the Naked Man, or when Marshall got mugged by a monkey. The story's not even going forward towards the mother, it's just crap.

I agree that season 8 is pretty bad so fa r, but I thought this episode was actually funny, as it made me laugh out loud a couple of times. I hope they keep this up and that the rest of the season becomes as funny as this episode or funnier. Even though most episode of this season weren't as awesome as they were, I'd beg the writers to make another season for the show. I don't really care who the mother is, I care about the developments the characters make. It's the journey that matters after all...
