The Mentalist Review: The Broken Memory Palace

at . Comments

"Red, White, and Blue" was a standard filler episode for The Mentalist. But an enjoyable one nevertheless.

Jane's Memory Game

The murder investigation highlighted some serious issues facing today's military. The first was sexual harassment against its female members. The ability to file an anonymous claim certainly seemed to have as many drawbacks as advantages. In the end, if no one is willing to officially come forward, then the claim goes nowhere.

I really appreciated that Cho took the lead in this part of the investigation because he's the person on the team with a military background. As he was quick to remind Hawkins in this The Mentalist quote

The next time you ask someone in this unit to watch your back you might want to remember how you watched hers. | permalink

Considering one woman under Hawkins command was killed and another was sexually harassed, it appeared he needed to take a little more responsibility for what was going on in his unit.

The other issue was the number of soldiers coming back with traumatic brain injuries and PTSD. I was amazed by Pete's battle to get through every day.

Of course Jane was the perfect person to go to for anything concerning memory.  I was relieved when Jane finally got around to telling Pete about his memory palace. I felt like I'd waited the entire episode for him to get to that moment.

But Jane was great in several scenes, my favorite of which was when he thanked the soldiers for their service in his own very Patrick Jane way.

The other was when he hypnotized Pete so he could sleep. I loved it when Jane uses his skills for good instead of evil and, even though he tricked Pete, in the end it was for the greater good. Not to mention the poor man finally got some decent sleep.

The killer was such a selfish, arrogant, jackass. He thought slashing some innocent woman's throat was the appropriate response to having to pay alimony to his ex-wife.  Well, that and covering up his illegal prescription drug side business but off course that was his ex's fault too.

The best line of the night went to Rigsby who told the good doctor…

Look on the bright side. In prison you won't have to pay for dates. | permalink

Yes bonaduz we shouldnt take ourselves too seriously! You have a joyful, jaunty vibe about you that Ilove.
Hc me too I thought what if the website is over? good grief its still here! how are you? will have a look at your pics

@Huisclothes - hi there! Glad you found your way back through the jungle of errors to this site! What would it be without you?!!?
Sorry, I must have missed the Simon Rebecca inside joke from a while ago. I don't always have time to read all the comments. Hope you don't feel "copied"! :-) That wasn't my intention. Please forgive me!

@KM - Pure puss eh? Oh well, I'll see. It's also just the getting together, chatting, snacking and companionship.
Unfortunatly I have not been in Australia - yet! It's on my bucket list. Hubbie has been there (he still talks about the beautiful surfer girls on the beaches! Grrrrrr...) and loved it. He was also in Tasmania and New Zealand. We are planning on a trip there, just the two of us, when the kids are out of school.

hi all. i was living my usual night stalker existence last night and endured a confluence of horrors. no tv fanatic site - error message, my hub's insanely complicated tv system on the fritz and recovering-from-pneumonia him fast asleep. had no choice but to make instagrams of my dog (see some under huisclothes). heaven forfend that i use it for practical reasons.
i too had worries that i had lost you all forever. phew. a while ago, we discussed the inside humor of sporty bad boys with a masochistic streak. definitely an inside joke between baker and becca.

@Mimi - so you look very young! What's so bad about that? :-) Well, you are still a chick at 31!
There is a sign here in the liquor store that says, you have to show your ID to proof you're 19! So - I'm in the store buying some wine, go to the checkout and show the lady my driver's licence for ID (with a very serious expression on my face of course!) She looked at me very puzzeld and trying not to offend me said: "it's alright honey, I believe that you're older than 19"! Of course she didn't doubt it for a split second, but I got a good laugh out of both of us! Gotta have some fun, right? Can't take yourself too serious!

Glad to help, Mimi. Enjoy, bonaduz! My Aussie friend, a beautiful surfie from Queensland, warned me that "Australia" was pure puss. Sadly, I agree with him. I hope you enjoy it. But, man do I have Oz 'homesickness' today. I'd rewatch it just to see the Northern Territory again. And, for the accents.

sorry I meant I'm afraid I wont be there on time..

ahah I'm happy you'll get to spend a girly night Bonaduz! I fear I won't be there on time for the movie even if I leave home now:-)
I'm 31 and last week a 40 yo woman thought I was 15, again.. grrr so yes I would!
ok we must accept ourselves as we are! thanks for the suggestions, will watch one of these two. the forum is quiet, everyone is busy, bummer! just when I'm not lol

@Mimi - sorry, I must have missed that comment! What about 1/10 Red Brick and Ivy? Or 4/03 Pretty Red Balloon? Ah, what the heck, just watch them all! LOL
I'm invited for 'Chick's night' today. A bunch of girls (well, not really girls anymore - we just like to think so! :-D ) get together for dinner and a movie. It's "Australia" tonight! You should get on a plane and join us! You would probably the closest to a girl! :-))

About the conversation yesterday about whether Patrick would sacrifice his own life if it meant killing RJ, combined with the conversation about need to stand up to the bully, but his fear of physical harm makes him run away before he gets hit. Patrick Jane has a VERY strong sense of self-preservation. I'd say it's at least equal to his need to get up in a bully's face, but probably stronger. So, I don't think he would ultimately give up his life to kill RJ, but it could be a real toss-up, at the least a gamble where he thinks the odds are good he can win. It's Janian to push it, even cross that mark and somehow pull it out, get away. I think somehow he'll do that in a show down with RJ. If the writers kill him it would be treason to the character of Jane. I think Jane will win and come out of it alive.
