Castle Review: Life Changes and Sad Faces

by at . Comments

Castle Season 5 came to a close with “Watershed," a finale centered around opportunities and big life changes. Changes big enough to make your jaw drop. So let’s get to it...

Castle Season 5 Finale Photo

Caskett... Forever or No More? Beckett went ahead and interviewed for the amazing opportunity in DC, but felt the need to hide it from everyone. It may make sense to keep it a secret at work until you have a decision, but not from the man with whom you are in a relationship.

After Castle found out, he made an excellent point: She didn’t care enough to include him in the decision of interviewing for this job. That stings worse than anything else. But on the other hand, Beckett has to think of her career, especially when she isn't sure where her personal life is going.

Beckett nailed her interview and received a glowing recommendation from Gates. She met with her father, who asked her what she really wants and she admitted: the new job.

At the same time, Castle shared a touching scene with Mama Martha where she let her son know Beckett deserves this, but she needs to know where things are going. So what should Castle do next?

After being offered the job, Kate and Rick met on the swings, an important place in their relationship. Castle admitted that he wants more and they both deserve more. So, does that mean breakup? NOPE!! It means our very own Rick Castle down on one knee proposing marriage. I never thought I’d see the day!

Big kudos to the writers on pulling this off. Long time viewers had to know that this would come at some point... but at the swings? Seriously, how romantic.

It didn't feel forced. This next step felt extremely natural, which is something the writers have been able to pull off all season.

So, now what? We didn’t get to see an answer from Beckett and we know she wants the job. There’s no way she can leave NYC... it’s just not practical for the show. But will she stick around and end up resenting Castle? Looks like we have to wait until next season to find out. One thing is for sure, I’m definitely on team Mr. & Mrs. Caskett.

Side Notes.

  • Gotta love the close friendship between Espo and Beckett. He’s always had her back and he was able to recognize something is up. How will he take it if Beckett decides to leave?
  • Alexis is heading to Costa Rica for six weeks for a school trip. I’m pretty sure everyone can relate to Castle not wanting to have his daughter out of the country again. Paris anyone?
  • Girl time!! Lanie and Beckett finally had some necessary BFF time. Can we make a deal that this happens more next season?
  • Daddy to be!! Ryan dropped the bomb on his best bud that him and the Mrs. are finally expecting a baby. Anyone else agree that Ryan will be one amazing father?

So, what did you think? Did the finale live up to the expectations of the season or did it fall flat? The hour was pretty slow until those last few minutes, right? Will Beckett go to DC or stay in NYC? Will she accept Castle’s proposal? So many questions and no answers for a few months!

Hit up the comments and sound off on the hour. Did you love it or no? Will you be able to wait till September to find out Kate’s answer?

Danny G Thanks for commenting even though you weren’t going to. I agree about the real love. I hope we can expect more ILYs and more romantic scenes. One thing that really bugs me is that they still call each other Beckett and Castle. During their wedding vows, will Rick say “I take you Beckett…? They haven’t been just work partners for a year now.

Vince, I forgot about the no good-byes to the 12th. I think Castle is mature, with that boyish streak. He’d do anything for Kate, but he did ask her if she would make it work, as much as he would do his part to make it work. Okay to brag since you were right!
As nottrampis said, the review for 6 x 1 is up. Look under Martha’s picture in the new banner, for REVIEWS. Then scroll down to Valkerie.* As nottrampis also said, there are a bunch of people we’ve never had making comments on that discussion group, or whatever this is called. Cont'd

except there are huge holes in the story line and it shows My kate to be a complete Bimbo and Castle as a bit of a goose. Really if the Agency/FBI or whoever they are were that bright they would have told castle to be part of the team just for that 'crime'!

nottrampis- Nothing too philosophical really. Rather a recognition that as much as we want Castle to be a certain way, it is a story the writers are telling us. At the end of the day it is far easier to sit back and enjoy the story than to gripe that it is not exactly to our liking or didn't play out exactly as we might have written it. I still like the ideas we had at the beginning of this 3700+ comment journey, but alas, no Bond, no Limey. I still liked Valkyrie and the direction I sense this is all going in. And I think it's just another road leading to the same destination. One can insist on their road or just enjoy the road your driver is leading you on. The destination will be the same. Just saying!!!

Our tony A class, at least wait until they come back to the 12th. My boys thought the episode sucked and are not watching Castle until it is Castle again. as they said it was another series with mostly Beckett and a little bit of Castle and it wasn't fun to watch. wow DannyG superstar that is philosophical. i would try to work it out but i would get a headache. I think the ship Castle is sinking. I am hoping it is still in the water by the time Castle comes back to the 12th.
Marlowe Acolytes will love the 1st episode but I don't know about others Marlowe is guilty of hubris to my mind!

Tonya- shame- truth be told you'd probably like it, but maybe give yourself a little time. Kind of imagine a Flowers From the Grave except they're already in love. Your call!

Judging from comments EVERYWHERE, I am really glad that I decided not to watch the premier. If they continue with the sad story line that people have described, I may not watch the show at all. I will be looking at all of the comments over at Valkyrie and beyond to decide if I will watch again someday. Hmm, do you think that Marlowe will EVER get the point???

nottrampis- All are entitled to agree and disagree and feel whatever they'd like. I do not seek to sway- only occassionally to say. And despite the fact that I have figured out the problem with the world, and that is simply that it/they does/do not always see things my way, I have also accepted a long time ago that the world will continue not conforming to my will- truly, so sad. It is what it is, and rather than fight it, I will sit back and enjoy it!! I can complain and gripe to my hearts content if it would only make me happy; sadly, it does not- just empty sound and fury- signifying nothing!!!

Migrate people. Valkyrie now with new people writing there!! We appear to disagree Danny G superstar but that is okay. It appeared to me to be another series
