Castle Review: Rise of the Machines

by at . Comments

Talk about big brother!

Castle took a break from the relationship drama and silly cases to focus on the murder of a man by a drone - pretty much exactly what you need to be freaked out - on "The Human Factor." Ready to break it all down?

The Case. The hour was spent looking for the person behind the drone that killed a man on the streets of New York. Who knew that at any given time that many drones are in the sky watching everything.?

The usual twists and turns took us down some creepy and shady roads before Kate’s amazing detective skills found the killer: the victim’s son. Just about the worst possible situation, really.

Carlos Bernard on Castle

Hello Feds and Handsome Men. After the Feds have pretty much taken over their case, Beckett has a run-in with a man named Jared Stack, played by Carlos Bernard. Although quite creepy, he turned out to be pretty awesome. Until he threw a wrench in the best ship on Monday nights,  Caskett.

Stack works for the Attorney General’s office and tells Beckett of a job opening in DC. He thinks she would be perfect for it and although she would be, she can’t leave New York, her fellow detectives and the love of her life. Right?!?

How could she even think about it when she finally let loose and admitted to Rick that she loves him just one episode prior?

Where is Everyone Else? Ryan and Espo received a small amount of screen time in this hour, but once again, no Lanie, Gates, Martha or Alexis. Not that they need to be in every episode with a major arc, but it wouldn’t hurt to throw them in every once in a while. These characters are adored and need a little more time. Hear that, Andrew Marlowe?

Side Notes:

  • How awesome were Castle’s remote control toys?
  • Wasn’t it even more awesome when Beckett took control of them?
  • Awesome shout out to Men In Black
  • Once again, Beckett rocked some amazing lingerie...even if it was only for a split second.

So sadly, the time has come again. Only one episode left of a pretty stellar Castle Season 5. What will happen in the finale? Will Beckett take the job in DC? Will Caskett come to an all too early end? Will Lanie finally show up again? Come on, TV Fanatics. Let’s hear your thoughts and predictions on “The Human Factor” and what is to come in the finale.

Sound off in the comments and check back for the official Castle Round Table

Until next week, Castle fans. And then a long summer of debating and impatiently waiting for our favorite detectives and writer to return to us in the fall.

The way Castle is being put down lately is really starting to get on my nerves. First it was the millionaire who said 'his mother loves his books'.Now this guy treating him like he's a nuissance. His books being on sale, things like that. He's supposed to be a welrespected writer, now it seems he's just been writing pulp.I'm sure none of his fellow crime writers get treated like that. Espo's bahaviour towards Castle has been bugging me for a while, yesterday was over the top. I think he's jealous because Castle is with Kate.-)
Even Kate treats him more and more like an idiot.
I always felt Kate showed her love for Castle a lot better than Castle though. When he kissed her, it never felt natural. It's like someone told him 'kiss her' and than that's what he did.
As far as what the writers have done to Castle's character; it's pretty ridicolous. They better give him his selfrespect back.As a person and as a writer. Maybe if Kate leaves for Washington he has time to write a great story that get's him to win several important prices. It's about time again!
You never see him write anymore. You never see him play poker anymore.Stop making him look like an idiot all the time! He was a man with wit and intelligence.
And have them talk about this job offer like adults, like a couple. Not like in soap opera's. Ofcourse it's too late for that now.
I wonder how Nathan feels about his character lately. Still watch the show because of him. Stana is doing great too, I have to say.
Well, I got his of my chest; :-)Now I can face the week again!

I don't get why so many people seem to be against or blaming Beckett for how things are playing out. Unlike Castle's character who has in fact been dumbed down, Beckett's still true to who she's always been -she thinks about things before talking about or acting on them. Maybe she's just trying to wrap her head around a career possibility she never thought of before & whether or not she's even interested before mentioning it to Castle & having that conversation -completely understandable to me. Aside from the writers dumbing down Castle, my biggest issue with this show has been theack of the supporting cast. As much as I love Castle & Beckett, I really & truly enjoy seeing Lanie, Alexis, & Martha on the screen at least every other week. Ryan & Espi could use a few more minutes too.

I still have hope for them. Its a great comparison, about what if the roles were reversed.. a stay at home mother writer, accompaning a cop on assignments to solve crimes.. didn't we see that storylline already, and then romance bloom in Scarecrow and Mrs. King? Too bad that ended in 4 yrs.
I would like to see Castle give Beckett his blessings, but where does that leave them. Does she truly love him, or will she only go if he moves closer. Love is you do anything for each other, support in the good times and bad.. not just having wild sex and infatuation for 6 months. They've known each other for 5 yrs, and thru that time each have been there for each other, always... I just hope the writers remember that and don't throw in some cheesy story where she goes off on training for 6 months and comes back to work. What happens to Lanie,Ryan, and Esposito? Lots of questions come to mind.

I like this show, but I'm ready for any twist the writers want to throw at us. DC yeah that could be cool if Castle could be in the loop. I think Kate needs a change from NYPD.

LOVED Carlos Bernard as Tony Almeda in 24!! But do not mess with our girl Kate!! Period!

Good point Pete. Castle might be too good for her. Maybe at the swing set scene in the finale, he tells Beckett: Good Riddance! Her recent odd behavior presents as a total lack of common decency. Has Beckett been playing Castle and the viewers the last three seasons? I sure hope not. Poor Castle deserves much better treatment.

Pete might be on to something-if the roles were reversed,a handsome male cop and a attractive smart, funny, mature(yes, raising a kid by herself and taking in a parent)wealthy, famous writer, shadowing for no fee the police. If its the male cop who was coming on to the women and then pushing her away, again and again, and taking up romantically with a female detective as she was falling for him, than she tells him she loves him,but he does not respond to her unless she comes to her senses and decides to leave him,or a year later when he feels his life is over because he is standing on a bomb.He doesn't seem overly real-and than considers a job over his suppose of love for her-no writer would even consider this or would the audience,so they sterotype!

Strange-not sure why the show is called castle, should be beckett, its pretty much all about her,the stereotype of castle's role, the modern man falls for the women @literally can't think out of the box-how the relationship moves forward driven by kate, the pulling away and reeling in over @over again-Kate,does she love him?Her allowing the rich playboy to kiss her, rather than slap him,now her consideration to hide a job from Castle and to strongly considerate it,implies self-centerness,again everything moves to her beat of the drum!Hardly realistic, for all that Castle has going for himself, plus the writers make him appear foolish-when he is not!Castle should tell next week,if the job is that important, than obviously I;am not@let her go@ have the writers focus more on Castle, his writing @a new women to take kates place.
