The Glades Review: Left At the Altar

at . Comments

I had a bad feeling going into The Glades season 4 finale that we might get stuck with a cliff-hanger. But in my wildest dreams, I never thought it could have been worse than last year when Jim popped the question to Callie and we had to wait 41 weeks to find out her answer.

I was very wrong.

My wife and I both sat with our jaws hanging open as the credits began to roll. I’m stunned that "Tin Cup" ended with not only Callie and Jim NOT married, but Jim lying in a pool of his own blood, feebly attempting to reach his phone. And now we have to wait more than 9 months for the answer.. IF the show gets renewed.

Fight for the Future

Have I mentioned how much I loathe cliff-hangers? If you’re not a frequent reader of my reviews, allow me to explain: In today’s Internet-enabled, DVR, movie-streaming world, there is no reason for them. Like the rotary phone and the horse and buggy, they ought to to be put out to pasture.

In the 70s and 80s, where TV seasons started in September and ended in May, sure, you needed a way to bring viewers back in the fall. They had a summer full of reruns, you wanted them to be excited for the return of their favorite shows. But today, with the advent of DVR, online streaming and social media, that’s no longer an issue. Network now run a fall, spring and summer schedule. Shows aren't just 22 episodes in the fall. The old methods don't apply now.

That said, let’s go ahead and get some theories out there on what happened and where things could end up.

I’m guessing that Tony (from Wit-Sec) was the shooter. I think he’s being working with Ray and Ray has convinced him that if Jim were out of the picture then Callie and Jeff would be able to go into Wit-Sec with him and he would give them even better info.

Evidence supporting this: Tony was a little quick on the investigation about the house; and his lack of insistence of telling Callie the truth right away made me suspicious. Also, Ray never struck me as the “shoot a cop” kind or guy.

Then again, maybe Ray’s doing it on his own with only his mother helping in. Did you see the way she looked all sad and nervous as she dropped Jeff off? She knows something. Want to bet that its Ray is in town?

GAH! This is the very reason I hate cliff-hangers! At least Jim’s case was solved. Of course, it was pretty straight forward, so I wasn't overly surprised when he arrested the husband with anger management issues.

Overall, I’m giving the episode 3.5 jilted brides, as I feel like we've all been left at the altar. Here is hoping that we get a Season 5 and that we can finally see Jim and Callie tie the knot!

I loved the cliffhanger. It will be a long wait but what better reason to come see Callie's face when Jim presents her with the keys to her dream house. Now as to the who done it? The Witsec guy set Jim up believing Ray was no threat...but did not know Jim was going to the house. Ray wants his son...not Callie as far as we know. Plus he likely doesn't know about the house. And his mother...everyone has been told they are moving into Jim's house....only ones who knew was Carlos and Daniel and we know no way they could or they are at the church. How bout that inspector who had the hots for Jim and may feel "if I can't no one can". What shocks me...why didn't Jim notice he may have been Ray's mom, Ray or Witsec guy.....Loved they left us with "who shot JR..type cliffhanger"

my prime suspects in the shooting are definitely: Ray - although he may not seem like the kind of guy to kill a cop, lets remember that his debit card was used at a liquor store at least 3 times, Drunken Rage cause of losing Callie, maybe? Tony - If that's even his real name, ive had my suspicions about his character ever since he was introduced, and it seems that maybe just maybe I was right... he knew where the house was and that Jim was there, but what im still unsure of is his motive. Leah - it seems VERY UNLIKELY especially because shes just the realtor, but theres no forgetting that she knew the location of the house, so they might be waiting until season 5 (if she even did it) to reveal her ties to Jim and why she shot him, so until then im not ruling anybody out. Ray's Mother - many have said the same thing and I agree, she looked very suspicious while she was hugging callie which makes one think she knew something, plus the fact that she was Ray's mother so... yeah... Callie's sister - not much proof to tie her to Jim's shooting, but like I said earlier im not leaving anyone out, and she did seem slightly suspicious when she was talking about Jim Oh and regarding the renewal of this show, NO DOUBT! it along with Longmire hit season records for their respective finales, and most of the comments on this site and on other sites have been positive so I doubt A&E is gonna cancel a show with such solid ratings as these. P.S. and to those of you saying that this show should be more realistic, that's why its called Television. :D

Cliffhangers,,,bah humburg! I just knew something was going to happen. Did not expect to see Jim shot! I feel like the this reviewer it was Tony. But then Ray's mother did act a little strange to me when she let Jeff out of the car. I supposed it's possible she did the shooting. Like others come on, A&E let us know quickly we will see another season.

Cliffhangers on summer shows are an insult to the fact I wouldn't mind seeing all of them on the scrap heap. I agree with Ellen that it was tiresome to see Jim arresting 5 or 6 people each episode, and always at the most embarrassing time. His superiors would have to rein him in or face major lawsuits every week. Imagine what a good defense attorney would do with that too. "Detective, didn't you arrest so-and-so for this crime also?" I know the show is supposed to be somewhat lighthearted, but at least make it believable.

I hate cliffhangers like the rest. I think it is Ray's Mother. If it had been anyone else they would have shot to kill. She was just too strange on the show. Why was she suddenly in the picture. I hope we do not have to wait 9 plus months to see the next season. Ugh. Can't wait that long. Need to see Jim and Callie married and moved in to that house.

While you have ever right to hate cliff hangers I think its very stuipd to think everyone has DVR or internet, Also show that don't need on cliff hangers tend to not have a good season opener.

I hate cliff hangers, but this was a good one. At first I thought it was Ray
but I can't see him doing this. I don't think he would hurt Callie & Jeff that
way. His Mother on the other hand would. I hope there will be a season 5&6&7,
etc,etc....It's a good show.
Come on A&E, let us know soon!

I hate cliff-hangers. They should be forbidden when the show has not been renewed. I'm going to try to find out what other shows thes people responsible work on and boycott them. 41 weeks to wait at best, or perhaps never? That is major disrespect of an audience. I love the show and want it to continue, but this just sucks.

I agree with Ellen. The writers have turned Jim and Callie into cartoon characters. If the show gets renewed, they need a whole staff of writers.

What a relief that Jim was shot. Because it is summer, I stuck out a season that got worse with each episode. Jim arrests every suspect - dangling the handcuffs while smirking. In reality, he would have been sued many times over for false arrest. They have no chemistry and Callie is such a whiner that I fast forward her scenes. The only way this ending could possibly have been better is if Callie would have been shot.

Jim: You guys don't mess around.
Tony: My job is to keep people from becoming your job.

The hazard tells me that one thing for sure, whoever shot and killed our victim wasn't playing around.
