The Glades Review: Left At the Altar

at . Comments

I had a bad feeling going into The Glades season 4 finale that we might get stuck with a cliff-hanger. But in my wildest dreams, I never thought it could have been worse than last year when Jim popped the question to Callie and we had to wait 41 weeks to find out her answer.

I was very wrong.

My wife and I both sat with our jaws hanging open as the credits began to roll. I’m stunned that "Tin Cup" ended with not only Callie and Jim NOT married, but Jim lying in a pool of his own blood, feebly attempting to reach his phone. And now we have to wait more than 9 months for the answer.. IF the show gets renewed.

Fight for the Future

Have I mentioned how much I loathe cliff-hangers? If you’re not a frequent reader of my reviews, allow me to explain: In today’s Internet-enabled, DVR, movie-streaming world, there is no reason for them. Like the rotary phone and the horse and buggy, they ought to to be put out to pasture.

In the 70s and 80s, where TV seasons started in September and ended in May, sure, you needed a way to bring viewers back in the fall. They had a summer full of reruns, you wanted them to be excited for the return of their favorite shows. But today, with the advent of DVR, online streaming and social media, that’s no longer an issue. Network now run a fall, spring and summer schedule. Shows aren't just 22 episodes in the fall. The old methods don't apply now.

That said, let’s go ahead and get some theories out there on what happened and where things could end up.

I’m guessing that Tony (from Wit-Sec) was the shooter. I think he’s being working with Ray and Ray has convinced him that if Jim were out of the picture then Callie and Jeff would be able to go into Wit-Sec with him and he would give them even better info.

Evidence supporting this: Tony was a little quick on the investigation about the house; and his lack of insistence of telling Callie the truth right away made me suspicious. Also, Ray never struck me as the “shoot a cop” kind or guy.

Then again, maybe Ray’s doing it on his own with only his mother helping in. Did you see the way she looked all sad and nervous as she dropped Jeff off? She knows something. Want to bet that its Ray is in town?

GAH! This is the very reason I hate cliff-hangers! At least Jim’s case was solved. Of course, it was pretty straight forward, so I wasn't overly surprised when he arrested the husband with anger management issues.

Overall, I’m giving the episode 3.5 jilted brides, as I feel like we've all been left at the altar. Here is hoping that we get a Season 5 and that we can finally see Jim and Callie tie the knot!

I am still in shock. I thought Ray would kidnap Jeff. That was allan awful ending. Please renew this show. The series can't end this way. I have watched since the first season and love Jim and Callie. If this show is not renewed, I will never watch A and E again. Please renew and have them be able to get married.

I think it's going to be Ray's mom. Ray was never a thug. Plus, he isn't crazy or completely stupid. He would know that murdering someone, especially someone Callie and Jeff care about, would endear him to them. Is his plan to kidnap them next? Nope, the ex mother in law wants Ray back with his family and she figures the best way to do that is to get Jim out of the way.

I think the ex-mother - law shot Jim

I was waiting all season for the wedding of jim and calli then this happened we leave with jim lying on the floor shot and calli in her wedding gown ready for the big day im not afraid to say im pissed how the show ended they should have been married last night then if you wanted to have jim shot fine we could wait its like a child waiting all December for Christmas then to dive into his gifts only to find there is none come on you got a wonderful show but you hit your first downfall with last nights ending come on you can do better ive seen you do better

Ray's too obvious, never had a thought of Tony, that's a very good possibility. However as soon as I saw it I immediately thought of Callie's friend from Atlanta. She never wanted Callie to leave Atlanta and has always seemed to have a bit of a "crush" on Callie. I never got the sense she is a big fan of Jim's or anyone for that matter that would be marrying Callie. Hope it gets renewed

I will never watch glades again after last nights ending, how dare you after all they have been thru to get to being married at the last minute Jim gets shot and we are left hanging. This is so cruel and there are a lot of people that feel the same way as My husband and I , we have watched it from the start but after last night ,no way even if it gets picked up for another season, and if it doesn't get picked up again then it is left hanging.Shows that do this kind of thing lose in every way because cliff hanger are a thing of the past.I am not over the ending of Jim getting shot yet and this is so wrong. What were the producers thinking or they were not thinking at all.

Callie's sister was there waiting as a bridesmaid for the wedding, so I don't see her as the shooter. Plus, she had a crush on Ray when she was 15 so I would think she would be happy to see Callie marry someone else so she herself could have Ray. I had myself convinced last night it was Ray's mom, but after reading this review, I have to say Tony makes more sense since the house was a big secret and he knew about it.

You knew something was going to happen the minute Jim walked into that house. I think Ray's mom is the shooter. She told Callie last night "you will always be family". Then, the way she looked at Jeff and what she actually said to him had me on edge. I think mom knows where Ray is and wants Ray, Callie and Jeff to be a family again. I think Ray is still in Washington, but not sure how far in he is on this. Very good point about Rays handler. He DID know about the house!

I recall the episode where they found a stripper dressed as a police officer and how at the beginning of the episode everybody was so intent on finding the cop killer, and like Sunshine45 said, there's going to be hell to pay when they find out Jims been shot so im looking forward to the new season (my gut says it will be renewed, not nervous)Regarding who shot Jim? I agree with BobR when he said that it was most likely Ray, because of the credit card thing, and also because the producers wouldn't be putting so much emphasis on him in the episodes if something weren't gonna happen...
And who knows? maybe Jim and Callie might even make it to the altar this time!

Just for once I would love to see someone get married without being shot, kidnapped, held hostage.. I knew in the previews that there was a shooting, I figured that Ray would show up in the wedding, confessing that he still loved Callie and accidentally shoot someone. I think though it is Ray's mom that did the shooting. She never liked Jim, and realized that her former daughter in law is now marrying someone else. She may also think that she will never have time to spend with Jeff.
There better be a next season to wrap up everything. This show is funny, engaging, nice eye candy and even though I know who killed the person within the fifteen minutes, watching how the characters interact with each other shows that they are tight team. So there will be some ***kicking next season when the police department finds out about Jim being shot, since he left a message with Carlos stating where he will be. I hate these cliff hangers and waiting almost a another year, will be frustrating. At least I can still get my fix on Netflix.

The Glades Season 4 Episode 13 Quotes

Jim: You guys don't mess around.
Tony: My job is to keep people from becoming your job.

The hazard tells me that one thing for sure, whoever shot and killed our victim wasn't playing around.
