The Vampire Diaries Round Table: "Dead Man on Campus"

at .

The Vampire Diaries went back to school this week.

It also killed off another character, teased an unexpected hook-up and delved briefly into Damon's past.

Indeed, The Vampire Diaries Season 5 Episode 8 was a transitional installment one that shifted gears to a new storyline involving the Augustine Society and Damon's history with that nefarious group.

Below, TV Fanatics Leigh Raines, Dan Forcella, Miranda Wicker and Dan Forcella breakdown the best scenes, the latest death and whether or not they're in favor of Jell-O shots...

-------------------------------------

What was your favorite scene from the episode?

Leigh: When Bonnie said "what dorm room has a fireplace?" because we were all thinking it. On a serious, sorta morbid note, Katherine's suicide note was somewhat poignant. I thought that was a great scene, her sign off, Stefan rescuing her, her admitting to him she was dying.

Dan: I will steal one of Leigh's 100 favorite scenes from the episode and say Stefan saving Katherine. Hey, you're Katherine Pierce...suck it up.

Miranda: I really loved watching Elena and Caroline give Jesse the Baby Vampire 101 crash course before the party. Then I wondered how he wasn't completely freaking out being around all those humans. THEN I found out he's basically Mikael and I was glad when Elena staked him. NOT favorite scene(s), however, were any time Caroline lectured Elena about Damon. Pretty much over that condemnation.

Steve: Damon at his sarcastic best as torturer/interrogator. Somehow he does it all while being so darn likable. I don't care what you say, Caroline.

Should Katherine and Stefan hook up?

Leigh: Sure, why not? She should enjoy some great sex before she croaks. I just don't want it to mess with Stefan's head and it probably will. I don't want it to cause him more pain.

Dan: He might as well throw the old bag a bone, right? She's on her death bed, the least he could do is give her the ride of her life.

Miranda: Absolutely. She's dying and deserves to go out with a bang or 12 before that happens. Plus, I'm of the opinion that they're the two the universe has fated to be together because that leaves Elena for Damon.

Steve: Statherine rules. Plus, she only has a few episodes left ... until the producers contrive some way of negating the cure and keeping her around. Gotta get this fling in while they're both vulnerable.

Who will you miss more: Jesse, Gregor or Ghost Bonnie?

Leigh: Jesse. He had a lot of potential. We didn't get enough time with him before he was an experiment gone wrong.

Dan: None. Moving on.

Miranda: Gregor because he gave Matty Blue Blue a storyline. Jesse because he gave Caroline a project. We never really lost Ghost Bonnie? It's basically impossible to miss her.

Steve: I was actually kind of sad when Jesse died and transitioned to the OS via Bonnie. Speaking of which, if a morbidly obese supernatural being dies, does passing through Bonnie become an issue? Does physical size influence the Anchor's pain threshold?

Operation Augustine: Are you intrigued?

Leigh: VERY. Even though it's similar to True Blood's experiment camp storyline. I want to know who is running the show and how Damon got out the last time.

Dan: Yes. Anything that starts with Damon at the center of the crisis gets my full blessing.

Miranda: YEP. Oh yes. I wasn't so sure about this when it was first introduced but now I'm ready to go full speed ahead with the Augustine Society story line.

Steve: I am. First of all, it has nothing to do with plot devices Silas, Katherine, or Bonnie. So it's almost a win by default. Second, it's a chapter of Damon's history I didn't see coming and that alone has me eager to see where to it goes next.

Jell-O shots: pro or con?

Leigh: Now in my life? Con. They were always hard to get out of the little cups anyway!

Dan: Always the sign of a overly planned college party, so pro I guess. A for effort.

Miranda: After a particularly awful hangover because of some Jell-O shots, I'm going to have to go with con. (Also, that much booze in a campus dorm? How many people did they have to compel to make that happen?)

Steve: Con. No need to contaminate perfectly good alcohol with Jell-O (channeling my inner Ron Swanson there).

NOTE: The show is off until December 5. Here is a promo for The Vampire Diaries Season 5 Episode 9.

The Vampire Diaries Season 5 Episode 8 Quotes

Elena: Each of us have only made one friend in college so far.
Caroline: And given that mine went radio silent after he kissed me and yours was last seen at a tea party for a vampire hating secret society.

It even has a fire place. What dorm has a fire place?
