Revenge Review: Things Fall Apart

by at .  Updated at . Comments

It's been 10 episodes in the making and tonight finally answered the big question:

Who shot Emily?

I can tell you it certainly wasn't who I thought would shoot her. Wow. Talk about your shockers!

Revenge Season 3 Episode 10 definitely brought a dramatic ending to the first chapter of Revenge season 3.

Posing for the Press

Emily duped Conrad into helping to get Victoria to attend the wedding and he called in Patrick, who convinced his mother that Daniel deserved her support. Nolan was put on Patrick duty and Patrick discovered the safe at Nolan's house, which will add a nice element of intrigue when the show returns.

Since he's likely not Nolan's endgame and he didn't get shirtless, I was less than interested in Patrick's return. This isn't the last we've seen of him yet, though, so I'm holding out hope for at least three more Patrick-in-a-swimsuit scenes.

The wedding ceremony was beautiful. Emily's vows were especially duplicitous and perfect:

Daniel, I've looked forward to this day since I was a little girl. Thank you for letting me into your life, into your family. Through you, I've become the woman that I always wanted to be, the woman that I needed to be. From the moment I met you, I knew that this moment was in our destiny. We share a bond that is unbreakable. Until death parts us.

Emily

She has looked forward to this since they were children. They just haven't been looking forward to the same "this." The relative ease with which the wedding ceremony and reception occurred stood as foreshadowing that the family yacht ride to Nantucket would be anything but.

Of all the possible suspects to shoot Emily, I didn't expect it to be that one! Bravo to the writers for bringing an element of surprise to tonight's mid-season finale.

Daniel shot Emily!

After overhearing her tell Victoria that she had faked the pregnancy, and after learning that Sara had tried to commit suicide he decided to pick up a gun and fire on his wife. It was all too much for Victoria's middle child.

Talk about unhappily ever after.

Emily, of course, was stupid to tell Victoria the truth about the baby. That's Villain 101. Never reveal anything. Haven't you watched Scream, Emily Thorne?

The moment she admitted to taking a page out of Victoria's handbook and faking a pregnancy to keep Daniel around was the moment it became clear that one of the Graysons would shoot her. For a moment I expected it would be Victoria herself, but Aiden swooped in with a save and knocked her out as part of their original plan.

You know, the plan that didn't work.

Originally, Emily was supposed to shoot the gun up into the air twice, jump overboard, and then swim away to rendezvous with Aiden where the two would run off to live happily ever after. That was just too easy, apparently.

Daniel, who began drinking at the wedding reception, was lurking in the shadows during Emily's encounter with Victoria and overheard Emily tell his mother that she wasn't pregnant and had only said she was to keep Daniel around. Daniel, drunk and reeling, couldn't handle the fact that he'd been lied to and shot her. Twice.

You'd think after learning that Daniel shot Aiden Emily would learn not to leave guns in Daniel's presence.

Aiden and Jack met up on the beach and waited for Emily, Jack to say goodbye and Aiden to whisk her away to forever. Instead all either man got was her wedding dress, without her in it.

Aside from that, there's not much to say about this episode. The biggest shock of the night came in the much-hyped reveal as to who would be the shooter. Other than that, it was pretty bland.

The happy moments worked in conjunction with the shooting to show that this Revengenda of Emily's will never fully work. Ever. The human element is too strong. There are too many variables which she and Aiden cannot control. Someone else will always screw up their plans.

What did you think of Revenge Season 3 Episode 10? Was it a let down compared to the build up of the season? Will Emily's plan for revenge ever really work?

That was the worst revenge scheme ever! Girlfriend deserves to get shot, maybe she'll try something less stupid next time. Just to recap past failed attempts to get back at the Graysons:
1) finds Mason Threadwells secret tapes, burns house to the ground
2) white hair mans laptop with the evidence, keeps it to herself, makes no backup copies, throws it into the ocean.
3) again the laptop, uses it for surveillance, but is unable to gather evidence of confessions, murders and other Grayson family activities.
4) allows Conrad to become Governor, even having lots of evidence that would ruin him (sextape with Ashley)
5) sends Mason Threadwell to prison, and just leaves him there. what happened to that exposé bb?
6) Leaves the Graysons pennyless, immediatly returns their fortune just so Victoria can attend her wedding.
In the process gets Amanda and Declan killed, loses Nolans company and sends him to prison, gets Takeda killed too, and ends up married to a man she despises.
Emily, honey, you suck at revenge.

Thinking back on it, there's no way Emily could've stopped Amanda, Declan, and Takeda's deaths. She had no idea what they were up to. Same regarding Nolan's situation. I understand. It's tempting to think of Emily as an omniscient being. "Leaves the Graysons pennyless, immediatly returns their fortune just so Victoria can attend her wedding." What episode did that happen?

No of course she didnt want them dead.. but you know what I mean... Ehm they didnt have money and last episode Aiden showed Vicky all the gold - so they were rich again - did I get that right? =)

I try to keep an open mind when it comes to this show so I'm not too disappointed with this season so far. It has still been entertaining, I just may not have liked exactly how everything has transpired. But I still like this show. I had a feeling it'd be one of the "love interests" in Emily's life, but was thinking it'd be Aiden (as the shooter) more than anyone else. Daniel as the shooter is still interesting though - will he take the fall or will mommy dearest take the fall (that might make Emily happy)? I'm sure nobody will, but I still think it'll be interesting to see what happens. As far as amnesia, it is definitely a "soapy" twist, and with Emily revealing faking her pregnancy and the photo coming out, I doubt a whole lot of people will believe she has amnesia (even if she does). Still, I want to see how it plays out. I'm kinda bummed that so much is working against Emily at this point, but that's how these shows operate - they can't solve it all or there'd be no show. Also another 2 cents, I am one that likes Jack & Emily and I hope to see them grow closer the rest of the season - they have a history. I can't wait for Emily to find out that Aiden killed Takeda (unless I missed that already). I'm ready for Emily to continue her 'revengenda', but taking a new path to it.

@ April

Emily already knows Aiden killed Takeda.

One of the worst finales ever.
I've lost faith in Emily / Amanda. She's making too many STUPID mistakes.
Lydia comes to the house with the ONE picture that can prove Amanda was at the party. Emily has SKILLS in Martial Arts right? Why didn't she use her reflexes to snatch the picture from Lydia's hand and run inside the house to burn it? How much of a fight could Lydia have put up? With the evidence gone what could Lydia have done? I'm pretty sure there wasn't a duplicate. And then on deck, she has yet ANOTHER chance to grab the photo from Victoria's hand and shred it and toss it into the ocean destroying the evidence so that she wouldn't have had to say a word. For someone that's supposed to be so smart she's doing things that only a rank amateur would do.

" I'm pretty sure there wasn't a duplicate." Why are you so sure? Why couldn't Lydia have made another (or many) copies?

How ridiculous can the writers and Director of Revenge get?
How does the dress get completely OFF of Emily?
How many miles out to sea is the ship?
How does a dress that would probably SINK once it got soaked, make it all the way to the beach, not to mention, that it washed up only few feet away from the area of the beach where Aiden had to SWIM to; and the part that's completely ludicrous is that the dress arrives only a few moments AFTER Aiden!
How is it that the dress was completely laid out flat (like being placed by film crew) after being tossed by waves?
This episode was DUMB!

Being a revenge fan myself i really believe the reviewer is just too harsh. Revenge has its ups and downs, and while i certainly agree that the first part of it being mundane, shit really hits the fan during the last 10-15 minutes which is a complete gamechanger. It deserves a 4 star at least.

@ Wade

She's unhappy that it's not Jack + Emily at the moment, and that Patrick didn't get shirtless. You're right, taken objectively the episode was exciting enough to earn a 4.

Meh, Meh and Meh! the season promised me so much to end up like this! the show doesn't even know if it even wants have revenge or string out romances instead!! I wanted her dad to appear somewhere and take her to safety! now that would be a cliffhanger!!!!!

Avatar

I really didn't see Sara suicide attempt coming! To kill herself...for that spineless man....please!!!!
in amy case, from the moment Emily noticed that Daniel was drunk, I knew that he would shoot her. I don't like Patrick and the his storyline...seriously!

Avatar

Except from going in and out of the screen, I do not see these characters doing much. Patrick comes in, says no, exits; then comes in, says yes, exits; Sarah says good bye, then comes back twice; Daniel's character seems to be in trance and does nothing right; Conrad loves Lydia, then he doesn't, then he does again. The plan concocted by Emily is so ridiculous that it is no wonder that it fails (it had to anyway if the show had to proceed). The script writers? Probably in trance too: perhaps they should relieved of their misery and find a more useful job.

The longer the show stretches things out,the less worth watching it gets.I just hope it doesn't get cancelled at a point at which they don't think it will get cancelled, which would mean the plot NEVER gets resolved.

wow! this reviewer (Miranda) is CLEARLY biased. The first ten comments aren't even about the show...it's about how harsh the reviewer was on this episode. please let this show reviewed by someone who is FAIR.

Whathappened

Good. I'm glad Emily got shot, she deserved it. Sick of her twisted games with Daniel who did nothing to her except have the wrong last name. Hopefully he moves from her deceitful ass and goes to Sara, someone who truly loves him. Now I hope Aiden just picks up Emily and leaves, this is getting ridiculous

@ whathappened

Aiden should leave,period.
Do we know if Sara is staying on the show?

@ Louis E.

Nope!! Jack should leave.. Jack is so boring.. Where id his child anyways?
