Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey Sign New Grey's Anatomy Deals

Paging all Grey's Anatomy Fanatics: it's time to celebrate!

While Grey's Anatomy Season 10 may not return with new episodes until February 27, the show's two leads have given fans a reason to be very happy in the meantime:

Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey have signed new two-year contracts with the series that will keep them around through 2012.

Granted, ABC hasn't even announced a Grey's Anatomy Season 11 yet... but come on.

An Important Package

Pompeo and Dempsy, of course, have anchored the series since the pilot.

Fans have been wondering about their fate all season long, especially once fellow long-time regular Sandra Oh announced last summer that she will depart after Season 10.

The contacts of Justin Chambers, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr.. meanwhile, are all also up at the conclusion of this season. No word yet on where these negotiations stand.

But let's focus on the positive for now: MerDer forever! Or at least for two more years!

The series opens with Meredith removing a sofa pillow from the bare bottom of a man named Derek. The rest is history.

2. Freedom

As the fourth season finale gets underway, Meredith Grey works with Dr. Wyatt to understand what her mother was trying to tell her. By the time it ends, she has found catharsis, and her partner in life.

Map of You

3. Map of You

This Derek-centric hour was one of the high points of Season 10 so far, proving that the show's still got it.

Beautiful Doom

4. Beautiful Doom

As much as we love the majority of the collective cast, there is just something electric when the story is centered on Meredith and Cristina, as this Season 9 installment proved.

Dark Was the Night

5. Dark Was the Night

Henry passed and Teddy doesn’t know. Mer and Alex are stuck in the rain with a newborn and some bodies in the street. Cristina realized who she performed surgery on... and the news came that Zola is not coming back. Shonda tugged at our heartstrings on this one.

Adrift and at Peace

6. Adrift and at Peace

This installment was heartbreaking, emotional, well-paced, dramatic and a perfect sendoff for (hopefully) better things to come.

Give Peace A Chance

7. Give Peace A Chance

We absolutely loved this Derek-centric episode from early in the sixth season. It was one of Patrick Dempsey's best performances and a moving story to boot.

Remember the Time

8. Remember the Time

As Mark's chapter closed, this episode flashed back to the time after the plane crash while the doctors waited to be rescued and once they returned home.

9. Flight

Devastation. The plane crash that took place in the eighth season finale claimed multiple lives and changed others forever.

White Wedding

10. White Wedding

With plenty of tension from the parents, Callie and Arizona quickly realized their special day wasn’t turning out as they envisioned. Luckily, it all worked out in the end ... for now.

Death and All His Friends

11. Death and All His Friends

The sixth season finale stunningly concluded with a madman shooting up the hospital. Nothing would ever be the same at Seattle Grace.

12. Goodbye

Days 20-40 after the shocking death of George O'Malley saw the staff find some measure of closure, as the winds of change began to blow through Seattle.

What a Difference a Day Makes

13. What a Difference a Day Makes

As Grey's Anatomy turns 100, Meredith and Derek prepare to walk down the aisle as Izzie's condition brings back familiar (handsome!) symptoms. That's when MerDer decide to give their wedding away to Alex and Izzie.

Didn't We Almost Have it All

14. Didn't We Almost Have it All

We had a bad feeling from the start in the third season finale, which ended with MerDer's split, Burke's shocking departure and Yang bawling on the floor.

Some Kind of Miracle

15. Some Kind of Miracle

As Part III of this three-episode story line commenced, we could only hope that a hypothermic Meredith is somehow brought back to life. Thanks to some help in the afterlife, she was.

It's the End of the World...

16. It's the End of the World...

We have… a code… black. These words echoed through our minds for two weeks in advance, as ABC hyped its post-Super Bowl episode of the soon to be Thursday night staple.

(As We Know It)

17. (As We Know It)

… The tension continues with Meredith keeping her hand on the bomb, Derek refusing to leave the O. R. , Dr. Bailey in labor and much, much more.

Who's Zoomin' Who?

18. Who's Zoomin' Who?

George makes an interesting discovery in the first season finale ... but it's nothing like the bomb that gets dropped on Meredith in the form of Addison.

Into You Like a Train

19. Into You Like a Train

From the second season, perhaps the show's best-ever episode with the tension gripping viewers from start to finish.

Hooray! But don't split them up as a SL. Here's hoping my comment will get through this time!

    2012? Do you mean 2016?

"Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey have signed new two-year contracts with the series that will keep them around through 2012."

Awesome!!! Hope they actually use them.. I'm sure their new paycheck is even bigger than before.

Oh yes, let Grey's travel back in time...when it was good, not the limp imitation it is now!

they will stick around until 2016! not 2012.
