Heather Hemmens and Chris Brochu are about to enroll in Whitmore College.

The actress and the actor have both landed roles on The Vampire Diaries Season 5, according to E! News, with their characters described thusly:

  • Hemmens (Hellcats, Grey's Anatomy) will portray Maggie, the love interest to whom Enzo referred a few weeks ago (on The Vampire Diaries Season 5 Episode 9), telling Damon she served as Dr. Whitmore's assistant in 1953 and left as soon as she understand the nature of his work.
  • Brochu (CSI: NY, NCIS: Los Angeles) will come on board as Luke, a gay student with a "secret agenda" who mostly interacts with Bonnie, Caroline and Elena.

Of course the gay character only interacts with the females of the show. Typical. He couldn't interact with Jeremy, Matt, or Tyler?

I honestly can't see why TVD need new characters. The current ones barely have any character development and storylines. Also, what's the point of introducing new characters if they're going to get killed off in the next few episodes anyway? Or is that the point? I think TVD is lucky to get renewed. If they don't step up their game for the next season, I'm afraid it will be their last, which is sad because this show has so much potential still.

@ Miss Love

You're kidding, right? TVD is lucky to get a renewal.supernatural, arrow and TVD is going to be on CW as long as the channel exists, look at their other shows!! Get Real!!!

Does vampire diaries really need new characters? The old ones have no story lines.
