Grey's Anatomy Review: Where Does the Good Go?

at .  Updated at . Comments

Well, that's a wrap for Grey's Anatomy Season 10

It's hard to believe that an entire decade of Grey's Anatomy has come and gone just like that. More unbelievable is the fact that we just said goodbye to Cristina Yang. Seriously?! Seriously.

Goodbye, Cristina

So, what went down on Grey's Anatomy Season 10 Episode 24? A whole lot. Let's discuss!

An explosion at a local mall made things a bit crazy for our favorite doctors at GSMH. I was honestly really glad that there wasn't an actual terrorist attack because I think that would have taken away from Cristina's farewell.

As she prepared to say her goodbyes and leave for Zurich, there was just so much that I loved about Cristina's scenes. Please don't ask me which one was my favorite. From her heartfelt moments with Meredith to dancing it out one last time, I couldn't help but miss my best friend.

Then, there was Cristina trying to tell Alex not to become Dr. Junior Butthole. Yes, Alex, listen to her.

As Yang stood in the gallery and waved goodbye to Owen, you could feel how heartbroken they both were. How will Owen move on without her? Even her quick farewell and hug with Derek felt so raw and real. Moreover, I loved how Webber told Cristina that he was proud of her and especially Yang's last words with Bailey.

It was evident that these actors were going to miss Sandra Oh just as much as we are going to miss Cristina Yang. By the way, I absolutely loved that Meredith and Cristina's last dance was to Tegan and Sara's "Where Does the Good Go?"

(Fun fact: This song appeared in the background of one of the very first episodes.)

It felt right that Shane wanted to leave Seattle and follow Cristina to Zurich. He's always looked up to her and there's no doubt that she's one heck of a mentor.

I was so thankful that Cristina reminded Meredith that she was a gifted surgeon with an extraordinary mind. More importantly, she should let herself shine, too. This girl talk brought on a huge fight between Derek and Meredith, but it needed to happen.

As Meredith decided that she wasn't signing the papers for the townhouse in D.C. and had no intentions of leaving her home, she didn't want to just follow Derek around and let his career overshadow hers. Derek felt as though she was asking him to choose between a once-in-a-lifetime job opportunity and his family.

Elsewhere, Bailey could hardly contain herself when she found out that Webber recommended her to fill Cristina's seat on the board. However, there's just one problem: Yang left her shares of the hospital with Alex, which means Bailey probably shouldn't get her hopes up.

Other Thoughts:

  • There were so many instances where I couldn't help but to shed a tear or two. You can rehash some of those moments by checking out our Grey's Anatomy quotes section.
  • I was never a fan of Leah, but I really liked that she returned one last time and wanted to just help out as best as she could. That's how I am choosing to remember her.
  • Cristina's new replacement is possibly Webber and Ellis Grey's daughter. Say what?! If it's true, that would mean she's also Meredith's half-sister.
  • I don't always like it when Catherine Avery shows up, but she was the perfect mother-in-law to April and calmed her down just when she needed it. I much prefer the less frazzled April.
  • Calzona is going to use a surrogate to give Sofia a little sister or brother.
  • Don't forget to return next week and chime in on our Grey's Anatomy Round Table.

Overall, "Fear (of the Unknown)" was a moving, stressful and emotional rollercoaster that illustrated Cristina's happy ending in such a seamless way. It was really the best way to say goodbye to Yang, and I'm sad she's gone but am now excited and curious to see how the show will go on without her.

See you in the fall, TV Fanatics.

From the moment I saw Mer and Cristina dancing to 'Where does the good go' I was all waterworks. I mean, it was the perfect song and in the way, it was the saddest dance ever. I believe this song played in episode 2 of season 1 and it just made me want to go back and watch first 3 seasons all over again. It's good that Mer took Cristina's words to heart and realized that she shouldn't sacrifice so much for her marriage. I hate MerDer fighting but I hope they will find some compromise. One thing I didn't like was storyline of another Grey sister- ok, she's also Richard's child but seriously? It's so soap opera and a cheap plot line. In the end, it was a perfect goodbye and though I will miss Cristina, we still get to enjoy 10 years of greatness from that character.

I am glad there were no deaths in this finale.
Christina leaving was like a death in its own way.
I cried a few times!
I though Christina and Meredith's first goodbye was blah.
I was glad she came back and said a proper goodbye to Meredith and they had they danced it out. It was fantastic. I loved that they played the Tegan and Sara song the same one from back in season 1.
I knew Shane would go with Christina!
Now that just leaves them to explain where Stephanie goes, as she is not back in the fall.
I liked Leah coming in to help, that was the one and only time I liked her.
I also liked what Catherine said to April.
As soon as Christina's replacement said her mother was from Seattle but was dead I thought, Adele for like 2 seconds, then I said DUH Ellis! I also knew right away when she said that, that she would be Webber's daughter. Meredith has another half sister.
The ending with Meredith and Derek was intense. I love Derek but Meredith was correct with everything she told him. I am not sure if Shonda would break up them up, but at this time it is not looking good for them.
Arizona and Callie will get a surrogate. Last week they said they are happy with their family the way it is, but they really want another baby.
I felt bad for Owen, he did not get to say a proper goodbye, like he and Christina talked about at the start of the episode.
For me I would prefer Alex on the board and I think that since she gave him her shares in the hospital and her seat on the board IT IS HIS.
I also think that the board was right stopping Bailey's trial. Yes what she did worked on bubble boy, but she almost got the hospital sued for millions and lost her job, her research SHOULD be the one to go.
I also do not think at this time she should be on the board.

I wonder who Callie and Arizona will get to carry their child? Would they adopt a baby a pregnant woman is already planning to give up (the way their patient did), would they use a stranger or possibly a friend? If so, who? Any predictions? :) I can't even *begin* to imagine who I would ask to do me a favor like that! I would have loved to see where Bailey's research trial would end up. Maybe we still will? I understand the liability issue, though. I don't think being on the board (which it looks like she won't) would make it happen, not with the opinions of everyone else and what they've been through in the past regarding suing the hospital.

@ Mrs alex o'loughlin

Stephanie is staying. Only Leah and Shane are leaving.

loved the finale! the cristina-meredith dance was just heartwarming. I really liked that they chose where did the good go song for the dance . I will miss cristina like crazy . but I am looking forward to see what decision Derek makes . also the last scene of cristina walking towards the board meeting was amazing. also liked that cristina left her shares to alex. this shows how much value is there of their friendship . but bailey is going to flip when she finds out that she did not get the board position

Ellis Greys daughter story isn't for Meredith it's for Richard. Use you brains people Stop bring so one minded

@ Meres

Hello, Even if it's for Richard, (which btw, am loving) it still means that she's Mer's sister.
I haven't read all the comments on that yet, but the Mer getting a sister storyline, while done before, is an interesting one. I still, and will always miss Lexie though.

I think that will be the last episode for me. I absolutely HATE that Ross followed Cristina. He just has to have a piece of everything. Surgery with Sheppard, award nominations, and now this, especially when he doesn't deserve any of it. Cristina's end was fitting and it was great that she had a moment with everyone from the original cast. I just feel like this series will now plummet without her. They probably should have had Meredith leave as well to finish it off and give the series at least a decent finish.

@ SortOFGreyFan

I agree - Also - Seriously--Another Grey Child???? I's like General Hospital up in through there. Good Lord.

@ Michael

You didn't know Grey's was a soap?!

sigh. Cristina and Owen. the best couple ever.

@ embarrassedtvaddict

can't agree more!!

As far as i know Ellis Grey has only been pregnant once, i mean if it were twice someone probably would have known. That means, in my head, that Ellis gave away her real child and adopted Mer at birth - ergo Mer isn't Ellis Grey's biological daughter.

@ Living

Actually, that doesn't work, at least, not if this girl is Richard's child too.
Meredith was already a few years old when Ellis and Richard met and started sleeping together. First, it's shown in the flashbacks and back in the premiere of this season, Cristina and Alex were joking about Richard being Meredith's father and she said that they had never met when she was born. This girl is meredith's younger half sister (and here we go again... haven't we seen this plot before?)

@ Emily

Yes we have. but Lexie had to fight her way in with "immature" dark and twisty Mer.
The now-Mer is all "fixed up" and bright and shiny, has dealt with her issues. But this time, Meredith's younger sister also has a DAD, which is the awesome Dr Webber! So no, not really, we haven't seen this storyline yet.

@ Living

whoa. that is one crazy theory and so possible. Grey's might have taken a right into soap opera territory. crazeh.

I was so scared thru the hole episode, we know Shonda can play with our emotions really hard, but this time gave us what it looks like a calm finale, we all know is not, the mcdreamys have trouble in paradise, but is good to have that we need to shake Meredith up, the character has turned into a follower and that's not what is supposed to be, let's see if Derek really believes in her and her dreams now that she is not willing to follow his path, and the possibly Meredith - Webber - Ellis family new Doctor that's gonna be interesting let's just hope she doesn't go completely bananas (Yeah im thinking possible scenarios in my head already, guess is the Shonda effect) Oooooh and Bailey is gonna go ballistic on the board once she knows who is gonna get her now dreamed seat! April and Jackson love how they are starting to settle into each other, and Shane going with Yang PERFECT! and now the main event of the night... Cristina Yang: after the opening monologue i got so scared, cause i don't wanna imagine a complete Grey's Universe without Cristina, the bomb was a god distraction but i knew that would be too easy if Shonda put her on the mall, but instead showed us how much we all love the character and how great Sandra is with her team, alex love her and she loves him, she called him out but gave him the best gift she could her spot, i've seen this show thru many years and Yang grew on me, maybe cause we all have a little of her inside, Burke wasn't her lobster she could compite with him, but the relationship with Owen really was perfect flaws and all, he loved her with every crack and every little drop of her sarcastic, critical self, to me they are perfect for each other and if so as i said at the beginning of this season i would love to find the Owen to my Yang, the new stories has many doors open but in the end i just would like that maybe in the future we get some kind of guest appearance from Cristina and that she gets her happy ending complete next to Owen (maybe if Burke wants his hospital back and she gets back to town even if it is on the final episode of the final season (i know im a dreamer) and also i love the McDreamys so lets hope Derek starts giving the value his wife deserves. See you next fall Grey's and let's just hope Shonda has some mercy on us, this season was great just a little bitter sweet!

Dr. Yang taking her seat at the head of the table was mind blowing. I loved it. Incredibly inspiring to those who are afraid to take that leap. Yang has no fear of her greatness. Neither should anyone else. What's to come I don't know ?

Grey's Anatomy Season 10 Episode 24 Quotes

I gotta go. You stay here. You are a gifted surgeon with an extraordinary mind. Don’t let what he wants eclipse what you need. He’s very dreamy, but he’s not the sun. You are.

Sometimes the future changes quickly and completely, and we’re left with only the choice of what to do next. We can choose to be afraid of it, to stand there trembling not moving, assuming the worst that can happen or we step forward into the unknown and assume it will be brilliant.
