Hawaii Five-0 Season 5 Episode 14 Review: Blackout

Hawaii Five-0 Season 5 Episode 14 delivered the Kono centered episode that many fans have been asking for. And the the pay off was certainly worth the wait!

This installment began with a not so light hearted conversation that echoed throughout the hour. Did Kono want to commit to Adam or not?

The first reaction I had was to ask myself, is Kono being fair to Adam about not wanting to marry him because of the company having ties to corruption? When considering who Kono is, it is understandable that Adam's father's company, which grew out of crime and corruption, would not sit right with her.

But was it totally fair that Kono, in fact, does risk her life almost every week with the H50 team? Whether it's for a good cause or not Adam brought up a good point. They both have issues with what the other one does for a living, which is a serious couple argument if I have ever heard one.

Except, at this point Adam and Kono have been together for 3 years. I am not quite sure how this is still an issue after that amount of time. Apparently, Jerry and Decker both agreed with me on this point.

Despite his man crush, Jerry made a good point that Adam is a good guy and that Kono should think about forgiving him. Decker jumped in with support and said that Adam must be crazy about her after all this time, and that if it is a matter of commitment Kono should end things with Adam and stop stringing him along. It was cute to these three talking about it.

Kono's solo takedown of Roman also seemed to have an impact on what Kono was feeling. Did everyone see her face when it was all over?

We got see Kono in full on H50 combat form going against Roman, which I thought encompassed all of the reasons that Adam worries about her, and I think Kono realized it too.

While the scene was suspenseful, I did wonder why Roman didn't look in that last laundry basket Decker was hiding in and why Kono didn't just sneak up behind Roman and take her out after misleading her with her own blood. Wasn't that the point of that ploy? Apparently, it was only so Kono could sneak away to get in contact with a computer system that she assumed would be working. I am skeptical about that choice, especially when survival is that much on the line!

As for the whole Decker amnesia bit, for most of the episode I was convinced that either Decker or Agent Morrison was lying about Decker being undercover, and that one of them was working with Roman. I wasn't disappointed that this wasn't the case, as Roman as the woman was a better twist.

I had two favorite parts of this episode. First is Kono and Adam's engagement.

What matters is I love you, and I can't imagine my life without you. I want to be your wife Adam.

Kono

I think we can all give a sigh of relief. Finally!

Second, although it is sad that Danno was out of town, at least it was acknowledged that he exists even though he wasn't there. We all know the show isn't always so explanatory when it comes to main characters being absent.

What did you think of this episode? Where you happy to see Kono and Adam get engaged? How was it that the team found Roman's house? Did you expect the case to develop the way it did? What were you most surprised by?
