Hayley Shipton - Castle Season 8 Episode 1

Welcome to the Castle family! Had you watched the show before you came on board?

I had watched a few episodes before I came on board because a good friend of mine, Valerie Azlynn (Officer Ann Hastings), was on as recurring.

So tell us, what do you like, or perhaps not like, about Hayley Shipton?

I don’t dislike anything about my character, and I like everything about my character. Sorry. I know that’s a weird answer but, I think she’s really incredible. That’s so vain, but I do. I think she’s amazing.

What can you tell us about Hayley?

She’s a really strong, sassy girl. She’s well respected in her business, she’s one of the best. She’s a former cop. She’s not scared of a little bit of hand-to-hand combat. She’s incredibly intelligent, really sassy. There’s not much that she can’t get done.

How many episodes have you filmed so far?

We’re six episodes in.

I know that a lot of fans are concerned with Rick working as a P.I. again and perhaps taking on a new partner, that the show is shifting away from the Caskett romance. Do you have any insight on that you can share?

Well I’m not his partner. I don’t know where anyone got that from. I mean I…this is going to sound awful, but I don’t really read the scenes that I’m not in because I like to watch the show. When I’m in something, I like to see what everyone else in the scene did that I couldn’t watch. I get a thrill out of seeing my coworkers do what they do. I also live tweet every episode if I can, so I like to keep it fresh for myself. I read my own stuff, I make sure I know what I’m doing. I only need to know what Hayley’s up to. I try to skim everything, and I look at where Hayley’s name is, and I kind of focus on that. So I don’t really know what’s going on with anyone else. When I’m on, I’m kind of just focusing on what we’re doing at that moment. Hayley’s not a part of their personal family, so she doesn’t really know what’s going on.

Castle fans can be a little intense. Have you ever had to deal with this kind of social media interaction before, and what’s it been like?

I mean, I answer all my tweets, I always have. It has never been this intense on a daily basis. Whenever we would air for The Neighbors, from the day we would air it, probably a couple of days, day and a half later I would be interacting with everybody. But fans, if they’re getting in touch with you, they love what you do. That’s always going to be intense, and I enjoy that. I don’t think it’s a bad thing. I see it as part of the job, and it’s no different as what you have to do every day as an actor. You have to be enthusiastic, you have to be prepared, you have attract good people you don’t know. It’s kind of the same thing.

Before this, most TV viewers knew you from the sitcom, The Neighbors. Do you prefer working on a sitcom or a one hour drama/dramedy like Castle?

There’s usually a big difference with the one-hours I’ve worked on before, but this is a little different from that because there’s a lot more humor in this show than a one-hour drama usually has. So I kind of feel the same way in an odd way because I love the character I’m playing. She’s really dynamic. I get to do a lot of fun stuff. I like the people I work with, they’re really cool. Everyone’s fun. We laugh a lot on the set.

Is there anyone on the show whom you haven’t shared scenes with yet that you’d like to?

I haven’t even met Tamala [Jones who plays Dr. Lanie Parish] yet. So that’s upsetting to me because I hear she’s just absolutely lovely, and I need to meet her. I’m looking forward to meeting Tamala.

What’s been the most fun about working on Castle?

Working on Castle. Kind of, you know, the whole thing is fun.

Is there anything you can tease us with about what’s coming up in Castle Season 8?

I mean, I could, but I am not a spoiler person. I hate it when people give me spoilers, so I sort of don’t like to be a hypocrite, you know.

Castle Season 8 Episode 1 Quotes

Kate: I wish that you were coming with me.
Rick: What am I going to do, sit outside your office and fetch you coffee?
Kate: Yeah, you're great at fetching. I've trained you well.

Kate: Babe, did you set your hair on fire again?
Rick: No, that was just one time. It's just that I'm so good looking I'm literally smoking hot.
