Roseanne Season 10 Episode 4 Review: Eggs Over, Not Easy

at .  Updated at .

Becky's dreams of being a surrogate bit the dust on Roseanne Season 10 Episode 4 with one visit to the doctor.

To be fair, her dream was never really about becoming a surrogate for Andrea; it was about the $50,000 she would make and how it would change her life.

Giving someone else a child was never in the forefront of this venture for Becky; this was about not having to be so darn poor any longer.

Some Girl Talk - Roseanne Season 10 Episode 4

If this had worked out, she could pay off her debt, she could possibly buy a house with a yard, and she could get a dog.

But as Darlene pointed out, Becky jumped the gun and went to the end before barely having started, and she adopted Armani even though she couldn't keep him in her apartment.

I would have been shocked if this surrogacy story actually ended up with Becky having a baby, but I was still heartbroken for her when the doctor said that she only had a 5% chance of ever becoming pregnant.

And I hated when Andrea took back the Faberge egg.

Not only was her dream of being financially stable gone, but she had to face the fact that she might never become a mother.

It was something she hadn't let herself dream about since Mark died.

Darlene Offers Advice - Roseanne Season 10 Episode 4

I'm torn over how this Roseanne reboot is portraying Becky.

Becky was never stupid, but she was easily led, and she was far more interested in being pretty and popular than Darlene.

Becky: Alright, so how else did I screw up my life? Bring it.
Darlene: Alright, hold on. There's a lot here to pick from. If I start with you dating your teachers I feel I'm giving short shrift to the tube top years, although I do believe the two are connected.

Marrying Mark wasn't Becky's smartest decision, but the two were in love. It's obvious that losing Mark was soul-crushing for Becky and she's never quite recovered.

Now she comes across as someone who drinks too much, sleeps around, and makes rash decisions without thinking them through.

As much as I dislike that, perhaps it makes sense given what Becky has gone through.

As different as Becky and Darlene are, and as much as they fight, they have always loved one another, and it was good to hear Darlene tell Becky that moving on with her life wasn't a betrayal of her love for Mark.

Becky blowing up at Roseanne was to be expected. She was still reeling from the horrible, life-altering news, and Roseanne had been nothing but negative about Becky's plan.

So was Dan, which was what made his uncharacteristically strong rebuke of Roseanne's plan to hunt down Andrea and tell her Becky had lied about her age, such a surprise.

Dan Tries To Explain - Roseanne Season 10 Episode 4

From the look on Dan's face, it shocked him as much as anyone. I thought he might wonder why he hadn't stood up to his wife sooner, but he was more concerned about her poisoning him for his outburst.

I was also thrilled to hear Roseanne remind Becky that she had a baby in her 40s. It's difficult but not impossible.

As much as I've enjoyed getting to know Darlene's kids, Harris and Mark, it was good to get a break from them and focus on the characters we know and love.

I just wish there was a little more time for DJ. Although as it was, he was part of one of my favorite Roseanne quotes.

Becky: Don't you want to pet him?
DJ: I can't, I'm allergic.
Darlene: Oh no. You're not allergic. Mom just said that because she didn't want a dog in the house.
DJ: I could have had a dog?
Darlene: Yeah, you could've had seafood too, it was just expensive.

DJ always seemed to play second fiddle to Darlene and Becky, mostly due to being the youngest member of the Connor clan at the time. I hope we get to see more of all three siblings interacting in the near future.

My only complaint about this episode was its portrayal of the animal shelter.

Yes, animal shelters and rescue groups do have rules about adopting animals. I've actually worked in that field, but I couldn't imagine why they wouldn't approve Jackie.

I get that it was supposed to be a joke, but I can't imagine that they'd approve an adoption for Becky when her apartment doesn't allow dogs but not one for Jackie.

Happy Becky - Roseanne Season 10 Episode 4

And I have to agree with Roseanne; those SPCA commercials are difficult to watch without tearing up.

I've enjoyed the Roseanne reboot thus far, but overall, this installment felt the most authentic to the original series.

Of course, it did leave me with some questions.

What's next for Becky? What is it that she wants to do other than waitressing at the La Casita Bonita and having one night stands with the customers?

How long until Roseanne's knee issues, and her reliance on pain pills to manage them, take center stage?

When will we meet DJ's wife?

Will David pop back up in Lanford?

And will Darlene finally get a job?

I know if you're looking for work don't click on FantasyPositions.com. They're people working, alright, but it ain't a job site.
