BH90210 Season 1 Episode 3 Review: The Photo Shoot

Production is back in session!

BH90210 Season 1 Episode 3 saw the gang back together on the set of the all-new Beverly Hills, 90210 reboot. But it didn’t take long for all hell to break loose.

With everyone but Shannen officially on board, it was time for the group to get some therapy. And their therapist knew them all very well.

Ian & Brian - BH90210 Season 1 Episode 3

It’s lovely to see this new version of Beverly Hills, 90210 incorporate past actors into the fold. And bringing them back outside of just reprising their roles in the reboot was genius.

Christine Elise is killing it as the domineering, yet helpful FOX executive. And Carol Potter was a welcome addition as the therapist who was to help the group with their many issues.

The first session went about as well as anyone would expect, with little to no cooperation from anyone and a lot of finger-pointing.

It’s very obvious there is still a lot of love between the cast, and it’s evidenced in many different ways. But there’s also animosity.

Carol Potter Returns to BH90210

Jennie continues to harbor animosity towards Jason, and it comes out in the therapy session when everyone discovers that the two slept together.

There’s a very easy chemistry between Garth and Priestley that has always been there, and that spills over more in their one on ones.

Jennie: Tor. What if I CARE about Jason Priestley?
Tori: Oh. My. God.
Jennie: What if it's MORE than that?
Tori: How could this even be? You're so mean to him!
Jennie: It's part of my charm.

Jennie isn’t sure what she feels for Jason romantically, but her ability to put Jason’s feelings above her own was on full display when she encouraged him to talk with Camille.

Jason and Camille need to sit down and figure out what’s going on with their marriage. Getting real and honest with one another is a great first step, but if their hearts aren’t in the marriage, that’s a bigger discussion than just opening up about their affairs.

Jason In Therapy - BH90210 Season 1 Episode 3

The Jennie and Jason banter can be funny, but it’s a lot nicer when the two help each other. And that goes for the whole cast.

When Ian is spiraling due to the end of his marriage and what appears to be an overwhelming fear of loneliness, Jason and Brian are there to lend a helping hand.

As fun and nostalgic as this version has been thus far with Peach Pit flashbacks and callbacks to the show, it’s the connection between the actors that are taking things to a whole other level.

Ian’s spiral is justified, and it’s buoyed by a tense interaction with a writer on the reboot.

From what little we’ve seen and heard about Stacy, she sounds like a real piece of work. Ian was expected to dote on her every day, and he did, leaving him completely bewildered as to why other women weren’t the same way as Stacy.

Ian’s first mistake was assuming a woman walking around set was a coffee runner. And then even once he was told her job title, he still expected her to show up with his coffee, something he wanted whilst commenting on her physical appearance.

It was a cringeworthy moment, made even worse by the fact that he didn’t understand why Anna was offended.

Anna: Are you seriously commenting on my physical appearance? That is so inappropriate.
Ian: It's just a compliment.
Anna: And I don't want one.

Anna didn’t ask for the compliment, so why is she expected to accept it?

While Ian didn’t believe he had done anything wrong, it would have been nice to see him try to understand her perspective instead of lamenting about the changing times.

Much like the conversation Jennie had with Jason during BH90210 Season 1 Episode 1 about double standards, there’s a much bigger conversation that could be had upon this interaction alone.

And they’re not shying away from these topics, which is great to see.

Talking It Out - BH90210 Season 1 Episode 3

The original series delved into many things that other shows wouldn’t touch at the time, and that doesn’t seem to be changing this time around.

Who else loves the budding friendship between Gabrielle and Christine?

Gabrielle needs a confidante more than anything right now. And while she would like that to be her husband, it’s understandable why he’s hurt.

He must be feeling a million different emotions, and that should be okay.

Gabrielle On Set - BH90210 Season 1 Episode 3

Christine provides Gabrielle with a very balanced approach, and she gives her just the right amount of advice without overstepping. She isn’t willing to just tell Gabrielle what she wants to hear, but she is willing to listen and help in other ways.

Trying to figure out who you are is tough at any age. And honestly, do we ever figure it all out?

With only six episodes this season, it feels like this storyline is getting rushed with Gabrielle going from kissing a woman, to telling her husband, to signing up for a dating app within the blink of an eye.

But it’s an important story nonetheless. And the dynamic between the two women has been a very welcome surprise thus far.

Riding In - BH90210 Season 1 Episode

Shannen has been hanging out on the outskirts, but bringing her fully back into the fold is an exciting prospect. These folks already have problems with one another, but will that get better or worse with the arrival of another personality?

Tori’s dedication to this reboot is something to admire. And it’s a shame her husband isn’t as supportive as he could be.

So far, seeing Brian’s butt on a FaceTime call is the only thing to bring out some fire in Nate. And it’s truly a shame because he’s married to a kickass woman who gets stuff done all while seemingly being a wonderful wife and mother.

Donna always got the short end of the stick on 90210, but real-world Tori is killing it.

Carol's Therapy - BH90210 Season 1 Episode 3

Extra, Extra

  • Jennie may have feelings for Jason, but that isn’t stopping her from admiring bodyguard Wyatt! And can you blame her? The guy is smooth.
  • Zach is a strange bird. Shay sees it, but now that he tried to have her back, she will probably forget about how creepy he appears. And now Brian is giving him keys to the mansion?
  • There was a very quick mention of the dismembered dolls, but it was glossed over pretty quickly. This week provided no new clues on who’s behind that.
  • If Jack’s menacing glare after Tori fired him was any indication, he’s not fading away quietly into the night. Jason better watch his back!

We're halfway through this shortened season, and I'd really like to know what you guys want to see before things get wrapped up!

Will the reboot officially get rolling?

What is Zach's objective?

BH90210 Season 1 Episode 3 Quotes

Ian: When did it become inappropriate to compliment a woman?
Brian: I think it was like 2007 when it turned the corner.
Ian: If I didn't compliment Stacy every hour, she'd be all over me.
Jason: Dude, you probably should have taken that as a sign.

I just want you to remember one thing. This is a billion dollar property for Fox. And Shannen better be on board. Don't screw it up.
