Recap

Group night is always good for a few laughs, but never for actual talent. Of the 71 hopefuls that made it through to the next round, none really stood out and for good reason:

They were lumped with other, occasionally terrible singers. For example:

Team Awesome did not live up to its name. But we were still impressed by Michael Lynche and worried he'd get the boot due to his fellow members. Fortunately, this did not take place, as Seth Rollins and Michael Castro were eliminated for their weak take on “Get Ready” by the Temptations.

The group known as "Faith" did not hae the same problem: Charity Vance, Ashley Rodriguez, Michelle Dellamore all shined on “Irreplaceable” by Beyonce and were sent through.

It was enjoyable to watch two groups square off with the same song, especially when one accused the other of stealing their idea to go a capella. But it barely even mattered in the end, as "Neopolitan" (Liz Rooney, Paige Miles, Jessica Cunningham, Thaddeus Johnson) AND "Destiny’s Wild" (Todrick Hall, Theri, Jareb Liewer, Siobhan Magnus) all advanced.

How about Hall's backflip, folks?!?

As is often the case in these early rounds, our favorite part of the show as a comment by Simon.

After one group member left "The Phoenix," Moorea Masa, Ben Honeycutt, Jeffery Goldford and Jermaine Sellers were left to peform on their own. It didn't go very well. Afterwards, Masa said that was okay because she was proud of all they had gone through.

But Cowell cut her off and said they were asked to learn a song in 12 hours. One person left the group. That's not exactly life-altering. He called her complaints "rubbish" and we high-fived the TV..

Masa and Honeycutt were eliminated.
