Lance DeLorca, an aging '80s action movie star is murdered and Castle, Beckett and the team are on the case. Lance is found strangled to death in an alley. The weapon was a garrote which makes Castle suspect that Lance's past as a member of Spain's special forces may play a role in his murder. When they learn that Lance was never in the Spanish special forcers but took the story from one of his friends, Castle is crushed. It turns out that Lance was actually a goat herder before he came to America.

But Lance did turn out to be a hero as he tried to help his best friend Brock's adult son when he was being blackmailed by a drug dealer. The son, Trey ended up having a much more personal connection to Lance than he ever expected and when he stumbled over the truth it ended up getting him killed.

Back home, Kate and Castle were packing up her apartment so that her cousin could move in. Where Castle didn't see the big deal, Kate felt a little melancholy leaving the home where she rebuilt her life, solved her mother's murder and fell in love with him.
