A millionaire's son is accused of rape. After pleading from his mother, Olivia agrees to take the case. Olivia and Co. are successful at having his charges dropped but along the way, details surrounding the son's past surface and his mother must make a tough choice regarding his future.
An audiotape that implicates the President in an affair with Amanda Tanner is sent to the office of the President's Chief of Staff, Cyrus Beene. Cyrus and the President believe Olivia has sent the tape and never think that someone within the White House could have knowledge of the President's affair. Olivia has asked reporter Gideon Wallace for 72 hours to deal with the Amanda Tanner scandal before he goes to press with his story promising a quote and background on Tanner in exchange. Gideon agrees.
After a tense encounter with Cyrus Beene following a State dinner at the White House, Olivia is even more determined to help Tanner who reveals shocking evidence in the episode's closing scene.
