Damon asks Liv to send him and Elena to 1994 so they can find Bonnie on The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Episode 9. 

Tyler is reluctant to let Liv out of the borders of Mystic Falls, but she is stubborn about it. Live gives Damon and Elena vials of her blood to drink, and one for Bonnie so that they are linked to her. Alaric steals the ascendant from Jo while he is compelled.

Meanwhile, Kai already has his own ascendant in 1994 and has already used it to escape. Now he is on campus at Whitmore looking for the family. He runs into Liv first at her bar. 

Back in 1994, Elena and Damon have some sweet moments. They speak to Bonnie when she calls gets a page to Kai's pager. Elena and Bonnie speak. They will have enough time to help her get back by 30 minutes. Unfortunately when Kai attacks Liv at the bar, Tyler saves her and then forces her to bring back Damon and Elena early.

Kai and Damon face off, before Damon flings him over the border. Even though his magic doesn't work, he is still a psycho killer. Only when he approaches Tyler he says that he wants to make a deal to help save Liv instead.

Meanwhile, Stefan meets Sarah Salvatore and calls her out on being a fake, which she is. Enzo kills her in front of Matt and Matt teams up with Jeremy to try and take down Enzo.

Bonnie is still stuck in 1994.
