Ty Burrell's acting career really began in 2001 with several smaller roles in movies.  However, he's probably best known for his starring role in the Dawn of the Dead remake and his starring roles in the short-lived sitcoms, Out of Practice and Back to You.

Now, of course, you can catch Ty as Phil, the dad who tries way too hard on Modern Family.
