The Originals Season 2 Episode 13 Review: Family Is Power

Oh, baby! The Originals Season 2 Episode 13 took the story of Hope Mikaelson to a whole new level as Finn closed in on carrying out his mother's mission to destroy Klaus' baby.

While Klaus proved once again that he will stop at nothing to protect his baby girl, Hope was busy taking care of herself.

Kol and Rebekah - The Originals Season 2 Episode 13

Not only is Hope the product of a hybrid and a wolf, but through her hybrid father's bloodline, she's also part witch. While it shouldn't be surprising then that she's already exhibiting some witchy powers, it totally is. It's also completely awesome.

We knew Hope could heal herself even before we saw her do it. She protected Hayley while in the womb and turned Hayley into a vampire during her birth. But little Hope is more than just a healer. She's also quite the intuitive little tot.

When Cami's car stalled on the road just outside the house, it seemed like Freya would hop out of the woods at any minute ready to steal the baby and carry her away to Dahlia, hoping Dahlia would free her from her constant comas. When the car started up again right after the house exploded, I actually let out a squeal and said "THAT BABY IS MAGIC!"

Cue the excitement for where this story can go through what will hopefully be many more seasons on the air. Can't you just see Klaus shouting up the compound stairs "Hope! ARE YOU DOING MAGIC AGAIN!?" This is just great!

Rebekah really needs to make good on her vow to save Koleb at all costs because Hope is going to need someone to teach her how to be a witch. Since Finncent isn't exactly playing for Team Mikaelson, it's not going to be him. Also, the being blown up thing sort of doesn't help.

We know that Yusuf Gatewood is a series regular, and rightfully so, but now we're in a wait-and-see to find out how being barbecued will effect him. It wouldn't be surprising if he were somehow able to magic himself out of the house just as it exploded or if what he sent to the house was actually a projection of himself and his body is still stashed somewhere safe. Finn's mostly a smart guy, sometimes a little too smart, and that's what makes him a character we love to hate.

So far, he doesn't seem to have a weakness that can be exploited, and he always seems to stay a step or five ahead of everyone else, so it was nice to see him get a little comeuppance tonight, and from Kol, a brother he's sorely underestimated this whole time.

Given all the trust he gained tonight, it really does seem as if we're about to be saying goodbye to Koleb, and to be honest, that makes me cry a little on the inside.

Even now, with plenty of room to explore Finn and Kol's history, we still don't know much about Finn. Not enough to make me care enough to want to see him stick around. And hey, he was daggered for 900 years, so there's not much to know, but still. All this time spent fleshing out Kol's story and now we're going to see it end?

I'm not okay with this. And yes, I might be getting ahead of myself, but it doesn't really seem that way.

He completely redeemed himself tonight with Klaus, earning so much trust that Klaus allowed himself to be channeled for the spell, rendering him completely helpless. Giving up control like that is a monumental task for Klaus, and in the end, Klaus was shown that trusting family--people--isn't always a terrible idea.

Klaus still doesn't trust Jackson, though, judging by the preview for The Originals Season 2 Episode 14, even though Jackson hasn't given Klaus a single reason not to trust him. In fact, by allowing the other packs to become Crescent wolves, Jackson is actually being proactive about protecting Hope in a way Klaus isn't. He's creating an army of soon-to-be hybrids who will be bound by the laws of the pack to protect her, similar to the days when Klaus created himself a sired army of vampires.

(Klaus IS protecting his daughter. He just has a different idea of how it should be done.)

I like where this Hayley and Jackson story is headed. It creates tension for Hayley and Elijah, but more importantly, it allows us to explore the werewolf mythology in this universe. Plus, Debra Mooney. Let's keep her around for as long as we can.

Rebekah: When placed beside the behemoth size of yours, certainly.

Now Finn, don't break my heart and tell me you've forgotten me.
