Supergirl Season 1 Episode 7 Review: Human For a Day

at .  Updated at .

Kara should know better than to say something like "the world can survive without Supergirl for one day."

That's always when disaster strikes, and of course, at that exact moment an earthquake hits.

Kara finds herself without her powers when her city needs her most on Supergirl Season 1 Episode 7

While Kara only recently embraced her powers and became Supergirl, she's never actually been without them before now. She can't help but worry about the possibility that they may never come back, despite reassurances from everyone around her.

Would she have felt the same way had she lost her powers before becoming Supergirl? Probably not, but now that she has experienced what it's like to be a hero, she can't go back.

Kara looked so helpless and dejected after being forced to watch that man die in the street, unable to do anything to help him. But, she also learned an important lesson. Powers or not, she's going to lose sometimes.

No hero can save everyone, not even Superman. But a real hero never stops trying.

James

As much as I like Winn, and I do feel bad for him, it is hard to deny that Kara and James have a deeper connection. There is something real between them. They may not realize it yet, but eventually it will need to be explored. I'm glad Lucy was absent in order to give James and Kara a real chance to bond.

That doesn't mean Winn was completely wrong either, though. A relationship between an alien and a human is bound to have a plethora of complications, but Kara can't help how she feels.

Granted, neither can Winn, and Kara is as oblivious to his feelings for her as Cat is to his existence.

The poor guy can't catch a break. Cat will probably learn his name sometime around when she learns to pronounce Kara's name correctly. Neither should hold their breath.

Still, Cat is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters. I loved the interaction between Cat and Supergirl at the end, when Cat was talking about everyone else, but really describing herself.

Supergirl's response that Cat gave them hope and inspiration was exactly what she needed to hear.

Switching gears, we finally learn Hank's real identity!

Those of you who guessed he was the Martian Manhunter, give yourselves a pat on the back!

I have never read the comics, and therefore had no idea who that was, but I have since done a Google search and studied up on him a bit. He definitely has some pretty awesome abilities that will come in handy now that we know he's an ally.

I'm glad, I really did not want him to turn out to be a villain. This show has more than enough bad guys between Astra, Maxwell Lord, and the other random ones that pop up week to week, to keep Supergirl busy. It helps that she now has another alien on her side.

Even if she can't actually know the truth about him.

Do we actually think Alex is going to keep this a secret from her, and if so, for how long? How is she going to explain why she's decided to trust Hank again and stopped questioning what happened to her father?

Some final thoughts:

  • We learned that James lost his father when he was young and that he bought him his first camera. That was an incredibly sweet and sad moment.
  • So, what happened to Kara's cold? It disappeared as soon as the earthquake hit, and Cat didn't question Kara's return to work after making such a big fuss about it.
  • Astra is back and is sure to wreak havoc on Supergirl Season 1 Episode 8. Be sure to tune in!

If you missed anything, be sure to watch Supergirl online and catch up!

Supergirl Season 1 Episode 7 Quotes

James: Lost your powers? Solar flare.
Kara: I did not know we were calling it that.
James: Well he does. He likes to name them. You know heat vision, freeze breath...
Kara: He's such a nerd.

Kara: It was Winn.
Cat: Who?
Winn: Me.
Cat; Are you from the satellite company?
Kara: No, he's from the desk right across from mine...that you pass on the way to your office every day.
