Animal Kingdom: Renewed for Season Three!

The Cody family will be sticking around TNT for at least one more year.

The cabler has handed out a third season renewal to Animal Kingdom, which debuted Season 2 back in May.

“The Cody family’s drama keeps bringing more and more viewers back for more,” Sarah Aubrey, executive vice president of original programming for TNT, said in a statement.

“Animal Kingdom has earned its place among a very select group of cable dramas that continue to grow audiences thanks to superior writing and storytelling.”

The renewal comes as little surprise when you consider the fact that the second season is still rating respectably for the network.

Through eight episodes, it is averaging 1.1 million viewers and a 0.4 rating. This represents a decline of 14 percent in the 18-49 demo from Animal Kingdom Season 1

The series stars Ellen Barkin, Scott Speedman, Shawn Hatosy, Ben Robson, Jake Weary, Finn Cole, Molly Gordon, and Carolina Guerra.

Season 2 is currently scheduled to wrap August 29, while Season 3 is expected to return next summer.

The show is based on the 2010 movie of the same name. It follows a teenager who goes to live with his criminal family after the untimely death of his mother due to a heroin overdose.

Animal Kingdom joins the Niecy Nash-fronted Claws which snagged a second season renewal earlier this month after achieving solid ratings.
