Mariah Carey is a talented singer who rose to fame in the 1990s and has managed to stay in the spotlight ever since.
Whether she's releasing infectious pop music or implying she does not know some of the biggest stars on the planet, she has proven that she has staying power.
Now, Starz looks set to capitalize on that by making a drama series about her life and career. It will be based on Carey's real-life experiences, and will even be produced by Mariah.
Considering it's based on her life, it makes sense that Mariah would want to be part of the creative process to ensure things are not changed too much.
The potential series is set to be written by Nina Coleman and will pick up in 1986 in New York City. It follows a 16-year-old bi-racial girl with big aspirations to become a singer-songwriter.
Her troubled childhood is set to plague her, but it will ultimately be used to her advantage to help her get to where she wants in her career.
It will chronicle her life as she rises up the ranks to become the biggest selling female music artist of all time.
Mariah had an excellent start to her career, managing five consecutive Hot 100 No.1 hits.
She is set to return to her Las Vegas residency and embark on a tour with Lionel Richie.
All things considered, it makes sense for Mariah to take a stab at a drama series based on her life. Her origins story is interesting.
She's become known as a diva over the years, so it will be fun to see if that aspect will be included in this new series.
It does seem like an off-brand pick for Starz, but ratings expectations won't exactly be high.
Mariah previously appeared in a reality TV series based on her rigorous tour schedule. It was called Mariah's World and yes yet to be renewed for a second season.
