Marvel's Inhumans Season 1 Episode 4 Review: Make Way for...Medusa
Andy Behbakht at .Things are starting to come together for the Royal Family on Earth on Marvel's Inhumans.
We are officially half-way in the first season, but Marvel's Inhumans Season 1 Episode 4 had more flaws than the past episodes. There are story aspects that I genuinely enjoyed.
But there were elements that I shrugged at. Are we supposed to really think that Karnak's little love story make any sense?
In the story, it has only been a day or so since he first met her. I guess the sparks must have been really powerful between them.
Do we even know what her name is? Because I can't recall one time when we actually hear her name.
The two male farmers aren't making things remotely interesting. One of them show signs of jealousy, meaning that the next episode won't be pretty for Karnak.
This wasn't really what I was expecting for someone like Karnak. Karnak has such fascinating powers, but so far we have been following this romance.
Crystal was in a similar position. Thankfully, Lockjaw got help after Dave accidentally injured him. I could have survived without the drama that Dave's ex brought with her.
They are clearly setting Dave/Crystal up as a new romance, aren't they? I'm willing to bet that Gorgon will totally hook up with one of his surfing buddies.
The highlight of this episode was the woman it was named after, Medusa. Her growing relationship with Louise was a blast to watch, even if Medusa was a little diva-y.
I don't think the random uses of flashbacks to Medusa's background really helped. They are too short and randomly placed for me to really get a feeling for her origin.
It did get old eventually to see Medusa just being unnecessarily rude to Louise. You may be Queen on Attilan but here? Your royalty = nothing.
Louise's backstory about her father made me feel for the character a bit. Don't get me wrong, Louise is clearly 100% only meant to be a guide for the Inhumans.
But at least they managed to make her fun and have some dimensions. I liked that she wouldn't put up with Medusa's crap though.
The other issue with this episode is that there is not enough Black Bolt, which we will get to. We finally got answers about what was up with Declan.
Somehow, he and Maximus are acquaintances. Did anyone choose to explain how they knew each other?
No, we needed to waste precious screen time on Karnak's dull love story! Seriously, how do a person on the moon and a person on Earth communicate?
Does Attilan even have Internet? I doubt those communication devices come with infinite mobile data. But sure I'll play along with it.
The minute Declan revealed to Maximus why he needed Black Bolt; I almost fell asleep. An ambitious scientist who wants to use a super-powered being to help humanity?
We've never seen that before...oh wait. I was expecting him to somehow be an ally to Black Bolt, but nope he is with Maximus. Seriously, did they find each other on a forum or what?
I'm glad that with the little focus that Black Bolt got that we saw how observant he is. He may not be able to talk, but that doesn't mean you should underestimate him.
There was an upside though to this episode. Black Bolt and Medusa finally found each other! The showdown was unfortunately lackluster once again.
I can only guess that they are saving all the epic battles till the finale. Regardless of that, I'm glad that the iconic couple found each other.
That hopefully means that Black Bolt will have more scenes in the coming episodes. These are so far my two favorite characters that keep standing out from everyone else.
Let's talk about Maximus because you know what he wants? He wants to go through Terrigenesis despite the consequences that could result in his death.
Does he listen to the genetic council? No chance as he orders his guards to take them out. We'll have to wait and see how it plays out when he goes into the chamber.
Overall, this wasn't the strongest episode of Marvel's Inhumans Season 1. Medusa and Louise's bonding was my favorite part, and so was every moment we had with Black Bolt.
Everything else was just...there. I don't care for either Karnak or Crystal's arcs. Gorgon was brooding way too much which is not a good quality.
I was let down with Declan's motives, but I stay optimistic that he will turn out to be a compelling character. Maximus's arc was the mixed bag for me that I have to wait and see how it plays out.
Now it's your turn to let us know what you thought about Marvel's Inhumans Season 1 Episode 4! Did you dig Medusa and Louise's bonding?
Do you wish we saw more of Black Bolt? Do you care about either Crystal or Karnak's side stories?
Is Maximus completely crazy or do you see where he is coming from? Could Gorgon use a hug or two?
