Queen Sugar Season 2 Episode 14 Review: On These I Stand

I had the same thought when Darla told Ralph Angel that Blue might not be his on Queen Sugar Season 2 Episode 14.
Don’t do this.
What’s the point other than to wreck their lives and ruin their wedding? No good comes from this revelation, especially not for Blue.
What did Darla expect when she dropped this bombshell on Ralph Angel? That he would shrug his shoulders and say everything’s going to be okay?
Talking won’t help this, at least not right now. Answers might help, but Darla doesn't have any, and I'm completely lost why she, her mother, or her father hasn't even mentioned getting a DNA test.
Blue is Ralph Angel's foundation. Not being Blue’s father could destroy him. It certainly makes him question everything he’s built his life around.
I just find the whole thing cruel, especially when a simple test will give them all the truth and possibly alleviate all of this pain.
Or at least if Blue isn't Ralph Angel's biological child, they'll know what they're dealing with and move forward, but all of this angst over a what if really seems pointless.
Darla may have cleared her conscience and unburdened her soul of this secret, but the cost of that is putting Ralph Angel through hell, and it has jeopardized Blue's future. I hate it for all of them.
Blessed doesn't mean your life is cherries. It means even when it isn't you keep at it. Even after you mess up bad, people still want to see you be okay. Nine times your father and I came down her looking for you after you stopped calling. I searched homeless shelters, rehabs, halfway houses. I saw and imagined too much. I started drinking again. 23 years sober until I came down here. You were too young to remember and I didn't want you to know, but the social circles your father runs in; he's a proud man, Darla. It's not the type of thing you talk about. I'm glad we're here. I'm glad I'm here. I'm glad your here. We're blessed. We love each other and it is that no matter what kind of love, and Blue is blessed because of Ralph Angel. It's the same kind of love. I can see it in his eyes. He just needs time.

Even more so, I hate the idea of Darla taking Blue away. During another time I would think Blue getting to visit his new grandparents is wonderful, but now, it would be pouring salt into Ralph Angel's wounds.
As Aunt Vi begged God, to take it back, I kept thinking, "If only Darla could."
Speaking of Violet, I may not agree with Hollywood snooping through her things, but I kind of understand it.
Vi is very private and hides things even from Hollywood. I hadn't even thought about how her Lupus diagnosis could be compared to Hollywood taking care of his first wife and her bipolar disorder.
If I meant we I would have said we. I'm not going to be another Leigh Anne. I don't never want to be a burden to nobody.

But Hollywood is all in when it comes to Vi, and he made that clear. They are partners, no matter what.
I also loved that he encouraged her to tell the rest of the family because all of their secrets only come back to damage them further.
Nova, Charley, and Ralph Angel will be happy to give Vi all of their support and would be hurt if she didn't share what she's going through with them.
I couldn't believe that Nova was pawning the pearls Robert had given her, but when I thought about it, it made sense.
Those pearls were never her style; they were more of a symbol of how Robert didn't understand her. They would just sit in a drawer collecting dust, a reminder of a relationship that didn't work.
Time to move on.
Nova: Board room's just not my style.
Mother Brown: It ain't about your style. It's about doing what needs to be done when it needs to be done.
Despite the pushback from some in her community, I do hope that Nova takes the position on the task force. It's important to understand the people and their issues so that the money will be spent doing the most good.
I can also see Nova taking on a larger role in grassroots politics. She's certainly intelligent and driven, and the world needs more smart, caring people in positions of power.
Micah was seeing his private school with new eyes, and it led to some interesting points of view.
Student: It's just part of history.
Micah: Maybe you see history, all I see is hate.
Student: Okay. What's the alternative? We erase it? My take on it is if we pretend the Confederacy never existed then we forget how far we've come.
I love that Queen Sugar Season 2 can dive into relevant, topical issues and discuss them with so much thought and passion.
Personally, I don't think we need to erase all remnants of the Confederacy, but we shouldn't be celebrating it either. All of history deserves to be represented, both the good and the evil.
I may not know which General's sword was being displayed, but I'll guess that the caption under it could read something very different from "his valiant efforts to protect the South" depending upon whom was writing because he certainly wasn't fighting to protect all of the South.
One of the best Queen Sugar quotes came from this conversation between Charley and Micah on that very subject.
Charley: The way I see it, is to give into that is to live in bondage. To fear.
Micah: It seems like when you're black living in fear is just good common sense.
Charley was distracted from recent national events by both the Landrys and her personal relationship with Remy.
The Landrys have quite the vendetta against Charley Bordelon. They'll try to crush anything from a black harvest festival to her entire business, and they'll threaten and browbeat anyone to get the job done.
Remy: The damn Landrys. They're not going to stop, Charley.
Charley: Yeah, you're right. They're not going to stop until I stop them.
But Charley doesn't know the meaning of the word quit, and she'll need all of that strength, intelligence, and tenacity to win this fight.
I really hated that she had to walk the line between flirting and business with Martin Bennington. If she were a man, this would be all about the business, and I thought a little less of Martin when she told him she was in a relationship and he didn't respectfully back off.
As for Charley and Remy, their future still seems unclear.
Remy has never seemed comfortable with Charley's business tactics. She plays hardball and takes risks, and sometimes he doesn't agree with that, but he loves her. I just wonder if that will be enough long term.
As for Charley, mentioning to Micah that Remy wanted children showed that she was considering the option, and that's a big deal.
So you tell me TV Fanatics, will Remy and Charley end up together? Does Nova have a future in politics? And should Darla give Ralph Angel his space?
