Riverdale Round Table: Who Could Be The Killer Now?

at .

Jughead and Archie transported drugs for Penny Peabody, Chuck had an informal date with Josie, and Veronica had an awkward conversation with a shirtless Sheriff Keller on Riverdale Season 2 Episode 7.

Below, TV Fanatics Paul Dailly, Jack Ori, and Justin Carreiro debate Mayor McCoy's affair, potential suspects for The Black Hood, and Cheryl tormenting her best friend, Josie.

1. Riverdale Season 2 Episode 7 broke up the hour into three different stories. What did you think of this new format?

Paul: I loved it. It was a great change of pace, and it worked well. I would be glad if this format was utilized in future installments.

Jack: I liked it, and I thought the way the three stories intersected at certain points was well done. I think it worked fine as a concept episode/change of pace, but I wouldn't want to see it that way every week.

Justin: As I mentioned in the review for Riverdale Season 2 Episode 7, I loved this new format. It worked well as a one-off, and it spotlighted some characters we haven't seen much. It was a breath of fresh air.

Penny Peabody - Riverdale Season 2 Episode 7

2. Penny Peabody is blackmailing Jughead for an unknown reason relating to FP. Why do you think she concocted this plan to get the debt paid?

Paul: FP warned Jughead that she was manipulative, and now we're getting to see why. It was the only way she could get Jughead where she wanted him without making it look forced. However, it seemed a little silly that Jug did not try and visit his father sooner to check how he was holding up.

Jack: Who knows if there really is any debt? As Paul said, FP warned Jughead to steer clear of her, and now we see why. Maybe she's thinking that using Jughead to do her dirty work is revenge on FP for something.

Justin: She must be seriously desperate to concoct this plan. Time could be of the essence, and she wants to get her money or deal before The Black Hood strikes. With FP in jail, she took her chance to force their hand.

3. Cheryl was responsible for causing all that trouble for Josie. Why did she do that to her closest friend?

Paul: The only explanation is that she wants Josie to feel closer to her and think Cheryl was the one who helped her when she really needed it. Side note: Cheryl needs help!

Jack: I'm wondering if Cheryl's obsession with Josie goes beyond wanting to be her best friend. I'm guessing here, but I assume Cheryl also told the other Pussycats about Josie practicing without them. If so, Cheryl may be trying to isolate Josie so that Josie has to depend on her and can't leave her.

Justin: Cheryl wants to put Josie in a tough predicament. She orchestrated everything with the recording session and the torment to push Josie to the edge. It must have something to do with being saved by Josie.

4. Betty and Veronica confirmed that Sheriff Keller wasn't the killer. Who else do you think could be the killer now?

Paul: Cheryl is likely pissed at how corrupt the town is and wants to get rid of all the people causing trouble, so I think she could be paying someone to carry out the killings. As for who the actual killer is, I don't know. It could be Hal, but that's about all I've got on this one.

Jack: I got a STRONG vibe from Mr. Swenson, or whatever the school janitor's name was. When he kicked out Chuck, I thought he might be The Black Hood. But then it seemed so obvious that I figured it was a red-herring.

Justin: Right now, I think two people have to be involved: One who secretly masterminded everything and one to act out the crimes. I'm thinking the janitor is the killer who is taking people out, but my guess for the mastermind IS Sheriff Keller.

I know...I know...I could be wrong. However, I'm looking at this red-herring storyline as just a diversion tactic.

5. Sheriff Keller and Mayor McCoy are having an affair. React!

Paul: What I want to know is how Mayor McCoy managed to book the seedy motel. It seems like the last place you would find her. Alice is going to love it when she gets some intel on this one!

Jack: Being a cop and all, Sheriff Keller should have known better than to kiss his lover outside the hotel room instead of waiting until he got inside, especially with a serial killer bent on stemming the tide of immorality in Riverdale on the loose. I don't care that these two are together but sheesh.

Justin: This explains everything! These two were almost in every scene together. It's not surprising that it would eventually lead to an affair.

6.  The Black Hood has revealed that The Reckoning will soon be upon Riverdale. Share your predictions for what will happen next!

Paul: More people will fall. I dare say Jughead will try and find a way to get rid of Penny, so maybe he could create some fake news about her that puts her in the crosshairs of the killer.

Jack: Everyone will be creeped out and maybe take extra risks because they think they could be dying anyway. Accusations will go flying all over the place, with people thinking they know who The Black Hood is, causing lots of relationships to be ruined.

The Black Hood won't have to act for a while because everyone's buttons are pushed, and now they are doing his dirty work for him.

Justin: I think a few people will be murdered next. My guesses include Mayor McCoy, FP Jones, Sheriff Keller (if he's not the killer) or Chuck Clayton.

Riverdale Season 2 Episode 7 Quotes

Betty: Veronica, I have a theory...about Sheriff Keller.
Veronica: Oh, me too. It’s obvious.
[Both speak at the same time]
Betty: He’s The Black Hood.
Veronica: He’s having an affair.
[Veronica looks at Betty confused]
Veronica: What?! Is that a joke?
Betty: I wish it were.
Veronica: Whatever crazy web you’re spinning, B. Let me break it down for you. Sheriff Keller’s wife is away, he’s failing at his job. He’s looking for comfort, sneaking around. All signs point to cheating.
Betty: Well, I don’t know. Maybe he’s having an affair and he’s The Black Hood?

Jughead: What the hell game where you playing, Penny?! You lied to me. My dad’s fine.
Penny: I incentivized you.
Jughead: No, you said this was going to be a one and done.
Penny: It’s not like you have a choice.
[She shows him the blackmail footage]
Jughead: What is it?
Penny: It’s insurance you do what I say. And if you cause a stink, or try to back out, or raise your voice to me ever again, I will make sure that video goes straight to the Sheriff’s office. God, I imagine what that’ll do to your dad’s heart. Break it, right?
Jughead: Why...why me?
Penny: FP made me a promise that he didn’t keep. And as far as I’m concerned, his debt is yours. And I’m just getting started with you.
