Amazon is on a mission to bring more scripted series to the masses, and its latest effort sounds like a series worth watching.

According to TV Line, Kate Beckinsale will lead the cast of The Widow. The series focuses on Georgia Wells, who is living a secluded lifestyle after the loss of her husband.

In a soapy twist, Georgia's world is rocked when she notices her husband very much alive and on the news. That's enough for Georgia to bid adieu to her relaxed approach to life.

Her mission to find out what really happened to her husband will see Georgia making her way across the globe to get the answers she so desperately requires.

It's undoubtedly an exciting hook and could be Amazon's soapiest original series to date.

Harry and Jack Williams are on board to write and executive-produce the series. It will be a co-production with ITV, and production will take place in South Africa, Wales and Rotterdam.

The Widow Season 1 will span eight episodes, and it's unclear whether it is being looked at a miniseries or an ongoing series.

This will mark Beckinsale's first lead role in a TV series. The 44-year-old actress is probably best known for her role as Selene in the wildly popular Underworld film series.

She has also had roles in the likes of Pearl Harbor, Much Ado About Nothing, The Strangers and The Aviator.

"We are thrilled to continue our existing relationship with Kate Beckinsale on the heels of her incredible performances in Amazon Studios’ critically acclaimed films,” Amazon vice president of worldwide TV content acquisition Brad Beale said in a statement.
