It has been a little while, but we are finally about to reunite with our favorite group. Kat, Sutton, and Jane are back in action, and things are finally good again.

This is truly the show that we all have been missing, and so far its return has not disappointed. In fact, things are only getting more real and important topics continue to be examined.

The authenticity with which this show appears back in our lives continues to prove how necessary it is. Television deserves to have such a timely show that not only entertains but also inspires.

The Bold Type is the show that we have been missing for the past year and continues to be the show that we can't keep out of our minds.

These are the friendships we have been missing, and the stories have only gotten better. Things are more real than ever, and it only gets better with each new episode.

Now, this preview may contain some light teases about the first four episodes, with a specific focus on the first two because of what they set up down the line. Proceed with caution if you like to be kept in the dark, but really, who likes that?

The first two episodes of the second season are entitled "Feminist Army" and "Rose Colored Glasses."

Here is the synopsis for The Bold Type Season 2 Episode 1:

"Jane is excited to publish her first big piece for Incite, especially since she’s writing about a female CEO she admires, and she knows Jacqueline will be reading it.

"Sutton is thrown when a new corporate policy seems to give her and Richard the green light on their romance. And Adena grows frustrated when Kat seems too eager to flaunt their burgeoning relationship."

The synopsis for The Bold Type Season 2 Episode 2 picks up from there:

"Believing it shouldn’t matter, Kat bristles when Alex recommends she highlights that she is black in her company bio. However, while introducing her parents to Adena, Kat is forced to confront how her avoidance of labels has affected her life.

"Sutton is horrified when she discovers her fellow fashion assistants think she was asked to organize a photo shoot featuring “honorable men” for reasons other than her talent. And Jane tries to defend herself after the fallout from her Incite article, which doesn’t go as planned."

Kat's Adventures

The Kat that we are reintroduced to is quite honestly just pure happiness. She returns from her trip with Adena, and it is like a breath of sweet air.

The plot for the premiere episode makes it clear that this Kat is all about being in a relationship, something that she has mentioned never being a part of yet. That adds a lot of weight to the connection that she shares with Adena, but it also just makes it all the better.

Without giving too much away, the story that unfolds through Kat and Adena is one that I think is what queer women deserve to see with every character in the community.

The journey Adena and Kat go on is vulnerable, real, and so beautiful.

These two keep reminding me why they are special and why they mean so much, it is because they are familiar in the way that they are explored.

An honest story is being told from their relationship, with "Feminist Army" focusing heavily on the two ladies and the adjustments they have to make now that they are back in the real world.

I will say that fans are in for a few surprises, with the trailers shared for this season not coming close to showcasing the arc that these two have started to set up.

"Rose Colored Glasses" picks up from that in a more subtle way, Kat and Adena get to explore queer experiences and showcase real issues that we don't usually get to see on other shows.

But they are also just like any other couple; sometimes it is all about them being a normal couple. They have honest conversations; they support one another, and more than anything they just exist and are happy and get to offer that to all the fans that see themselves in this couple.

Which means Kat gets to discover more about herself not only in connection to Adena, although her girlfriend is right there with her when she does.

It sets up an arc for Kat and Alex, characters we saw interact around each other but never really with one another.

The wait was worth it though because one of the concerns that fans raised last season had to do with Kat's race and the conversation that were or weren't always highlighted in the narrative.

For example, when Adena got arrested there seemed to be a disconnect with the way that Kat examined the situation, something that shouldn't have happened.

That is why "Rose Colored Glasses" feels like a step in the right direction, it focuses on exactly that, and it gives the topic the screen time it deserves.

It was interesting to see Alex and Kat together because it made me want to see them interact even more. Alex is around for any of the ladies that may need him, and I wouldn't object to him and Kat checking in with one another from time to time.

Sutton's Journey

Sutton's dealing with a lot, literally.

As always, she has plenty going on in her personal and professional life, but I would say these two episodes proved that there is nothing she can't handle.

It is obvious from the synopsis that her relationship with Richard isn't exactly over, last we left them they couldn't be together, and the hope was limited.

Then we return, and a new policy appears that offers them a possible chance to have their happily ever after.

But are things that easy?

That is where Sutton's professional life comes in because she is killing it. This specific part has always been so inspiring to me, and it doesn't disappoint this season.

Sutton is doing what she loves, and she is where she belongs, something that other people validate because no one is clueless enough to deny it.

Except for the other assistants, which at first took me a little while to wrap my head around and yet made all the sense in the world.

The Bold Type thrives on not having women tear each other down, which is at the heart of the ladies on the show. Jane, Sutton, Kat, and Jacqueline are all supporting one another, but that doesn't mean the whole world is like that.

That plays a part in The Bold Type Season 2, which is necessary considering the authentic tone that shines off the show.

Everyone can't be kind and helpful all the time, and Sutton learns that lesson when she starts to doubt herself at the expense of jealous assistants.

In a surprising turn of events, it leads to one of my favorite Jacqueline scenes, which is hard because I love all her scenes equally.

Jane's Shift

Jane is still working at Incite, something that comes with significant challenges.

She is not at Scarlet anymore, and that is exactly what she struggles to come to terms with. Jane may have left for more creative freedom, but her love for Scarlet is still there, something that comes up multiple times in the first two episodes.

You can't take the girl out of her home, and even though she may have moved on it feels like none of us can.

Jane belongs at Scarlet, and yet it is something she needs to understand herself.

So, for now, she is working on her first piece with complex results.

Her journey takes a few turns along the way, yet it also sets up a place for Jane in this new season. In contrast to Kat and Sutton, Jane is now the one who is going through a transition in her professional life that isn't all that fun.

It is a substantial shift from the way that we went into The Bold Type through Jane's experiences with it. She introduced us to it, and now she is the one that is most distant from it.

Still, Jane gives it her all at Incite, and I would say the character continues to demonstrate who she is as a person. It is stressful, shocking, and wonderful to watch Jane try to figure things out.

Stray Out Of Context Thoughts From Season 2

There is a small detail about Jacqueline and Richard that everyone should find kind of fun.

A scene on "Feminist Army" somehow was allowed to be in the episode, and it makes me so freaking happy. That has been a long time coming, and I can't say enough times how much it means to me and how much it will mean to all of you.

Alex is back, and he is killing it this season. He has got a new look, but he is also a great support system for the ladies as well. He is just great, which we all already knew.

The fashion is back and better than ever; I spend too much time wondering how I can get every single piece of clothing that everyone is wearing.

The music is one great choice after another, and it sets the tone for every scene that it appears in. My favorite sequence was on "Rose Colored Glasses," and I had to stop the episode to let it sink in how spot on that song choice was.
