The Gifted Season 2 Episode 3 Review: coMplications

On The Gifted Season 2 Episode 3, Marcos finally gets to meet his baby, but it's bittersweet because he has to say goodbye.

How unfair.

Lorna might think she's going to make a better world for Dawn, but she's completely selfish. Not only did Marcos miss his child's birth, but he's also unable to watch her grow. Just use him for his light and send him on his way.

An Unexpected Source - The Gifted

What does Lorna think she's going to accomplish?

If she wants to go ahead and use terrorism and violence to rid the world of injustice and bigotry, then go for it. But leave your kid out of it. Since Polaris believes in this cause and Reeva is the only way to get there, she should give Dawn to Marcos.

Get your child out of the center of danger and away from people you don't trust.

Now let's get to work girls. This revolution isn't gonna start itself.

Reeva

Will it hurt? Heck yeah, but doing what's right is rarely easy.

How could she stand there and watch Marcos with Dawn and then let him walk away?

You could tell by the look on her face that she was affected by the sight of the two of them. Sean Teale did an excellent job playing a father seeing his child for the first time.

Marcos Meets Dawn - The Gifted Season 2 Episode 3

If Marcos wasn't determined to get Lorna and Dawn out of Hellfire Club, he is now. I know he loves Lorna, but his concentration is going to be on Dawn from here on out.

Marcos' father rejected him and made his mother hide in the shadows, so he has daddy issues. He won't abandon his child, even if it's not his choice. Just the appearance of abandonment is unacceptable.

While we're on the subject of unacceptable, a few secrets are going on in the Mutant Underground. Part of the rules of the original Underground is complete honesty, and like the group as a whole, that rule is going by the wayside.

I don't wanna rest. I wanna hit 'em back.

Marcos

Maybe that went out the window during the big battle before Andy and Lorna split off to join Reeva and the Frost sisters.

Reed's been keeping a secret: that his mutant powers are surfacing. He's just revealed it to his family, but he needs to tell the other mutants in the Underground.

It's understandable that he's confused and afraid about his entire body chemistry changing.

If anyone understands the reluctance to open up about it, it would be the other mutants. But Reed better not keep it a secret for too much longer, or it may cause problems.

Lorna Looks Over the Baby - The Gifted Season 2 Episode 3

Keeping secrets affects trust, and in this case, could endanger everyone.

The other secret Blink is keeping. She agreed to be a spy for Erg, but she didn't tell Thunderbird. That's going to be a problem because she's kept secrets before. When she came clean, John forgave her and gave her another chance in the Underground.

When he finds out this time, Blink might never earn back his trust.

I don't know if he'll make her leave the Underground entirely since they're in a relationship, but that might be a deal breaker in the relationship.

Dad, you have powers. How long were you going to hide this?

Lauren

Thunderbird is huge on trust, and I'm not sure they would be able to recover from the betrayal. Blink and Thunderbird's relationship is adorable, so it would be a shame if this secret broke them up.

The thing about the Underground is it used to feel cohesive. They all used to feel like a team. Now it feels like they're all in their different corners doing their own thing.

There is no more unity among the mutant team. If they don't get it together soon, they're going to lose big.

Turner knows the Struckers are alive, which means he figures the rest are alive, too.

Andy Looking at Reeva - The Gifted Season 2 Episode 3

I said in The Gifted Season 2 Episode 2 review that Turner wasn't going to be able to keep the promise to his wife to let the mutants go. He can't. It's who he is now.

Similar to Marcos and Dawn, he's also a father who's lost his daughter. Turner will never give up until he gets justice for his little girl. No matter how badly he wants to honor his wife, he can't turn a blind eye to the mutants.

Blink

He's like a dog with a bone and since no one believes him it will only fuel his resolve. I'm not rooting for Turner to find the mutants, but I understand the impulse for vengeance and justice.

What are your thoughts, Mutant fans? Do you think Lorna should give Dawn to Marcos? What do you think John will do when he finds out Blink is holding back?

Share what you think in the comments.

Fun Fact: Emma Dumont tweeted that she put on 25 pounds to make Lorna look more believable as a woman who just gave birth. That's dedication!
