Legacies Season 1 Episode 7 Review: Death Keeps Knocking On My Door

at .  Updated at .

The apocalypse is well underway, and our characters are more fractured than ever.

Heading into Legacies Season 1 Episode 7, it was obvious we were going to get some insight into what happened to some of the characters who were already dead, and I can't be the only one who wasn't buying Hope's thinly veiled attempt at getting answers from the Necromancer.

The teenager has experienced more loss than the best of us, all while trying to come to terms with her status as the daughter of someone who is painted as a villain in the books in the very library she does all of her researching in.

Hope is Over the Necromancer - Tall - Legacies Season 1 Episode 7

What "Death Keeps Knocking On My Door" proved was that Hope wants to make everyone think she's moved on and is fine, but her biggest fear is that her father sacrificed himself and wound up facing an eternity of pain.

While the Necromancer will go down as one of the tamer villains, he helped kickstart Hope's recovery, and that's the best thing to come out of this situation.

With Legacies being set in Mystic Falls, I never imagined we would venture back to any of the locations from The Originals, so returning to Rousseau's was a nice touch.

He watches over you every day. He did die with love in his heart, and he doesn’t regret his choice. But he won’t find peace until you do. Good luck with that.

The Necromancer

I never thought I'd see the day in which the Necromancer helped Hope, but here we are. His intentions were not good, and that's because he was under control for some of his tenure on the show by whatever is keeping everyone locked up in Malivore.

Help Me, Please! - Legacies Season 1 Episode 1

Hope showed her age when she went for a deep dive into the Necromancer's mind. I couldn't shake the feeling that this midseason finale was going to result in our first significant death of the season, and I pegged MG as a likely candidate.

How would Hope be able to come to terms with the fact that she essentially sacrificed her friend?

Thankfully, the powers that be recognized that she had already experienced enough pain and allowed everyone to make it out of the installment alive.

You want to know how your dad is, or should I say where he is. After all, he did die to save your life — a lovely gesture for such a mercurial man.

The nod to The Vampire Diaries with the Bennett witch helping transport the knife was great.

On The Vampire Diaries Season 8 Episode 16, the witches stood firm with Bonnie Bennett to send the hellfire back to where it came from and saved the town.

I'm surprised they can even be controlled by this new villain after having all that power. That's something that needs to be answered on the back half of Legacies Season 1

Laying Down the Law - Legacies Season 1 Episode 1

Know what I love about the relationship between Alaric and Hope? Neither of them beats around the bush, and Alaric is not trying to be a father to Hope.

It's very reminiscent of the bond Alaric had with Elena when Jenna was murdered by Klaus on The Vampire Diaries Season 2.

Maybe that's why he makes such a great character, and he's definitely the perfect candidate to run the Salvatore School. As expected, he was grieving the loss of Jo all over again.

I do still think Jo's return was a gift for her daughters, but this has only made Alaric more intent on finding out who is running Malivore, and more importantly, how to destroy it.

No one should ever have to be alone like this!

Many compared Legacies to Harry Potter before it debuted, and the similarities continued to mount with the reveal that the knife represents stage one of the plan to bring about the end of everything.

Keep It Buried - Legacies Season 1 Episode 7

It reminded me of the Horcruxes, and that's not a bad thing. The bigger question now surrounds what the next two stages entail, and what other things the person ruling this dimension are able to do.

I'm not even going to begin to speculate on what the heck that final scene was about. Someone was watching Malivore from a monitor as the knife was destroyed.

We already knew Landon had a link to the place because of his mother, but without the knife in play? Well, he's in some sort of danger.

I didn't care one bit for Rafael's struggle. I don't know why because Raf has actually been one of the better characters on Legacies. There was just something about his girlfriend coming back that felt repetitive.

Oh wait, maybe it's because Jo was back from the dead on Legacies Season 1 Episode 6, and died that same episode. Raf dealing with guilt and grief did not have the same ring to it.

Maybe it's because Legacies is still in its infancy, highlighting that the newer characters still have a lot of work to do.

We Need to End This - Legacies Season 1 Episode 7

As for MG, I seriously thought he was off the deep end thanks to Kaleb. Dorian was right that the youngster had all the traits needed to become a ripper.

But MG felt inadequate because his abilities as a vampire are limited because he doesn't touch human blood. Kaleb's complicated personality presents a big issue for the school.

The youngster is not learning from his mistakes and is happy to break the rules if the opportunity presents itself.

I get that Alaric wanted a democracy with the way the Honor Council was created, but I can't shake the feeling that Kaleb is going to continue to cause problems, and perhaps turn the vampires against everyone else.

"Death Keeps Knocking On My Door" was a slower installment of this new CW drama, but it perfectly set the tone for the rest of the season.
