The Umbrella Academy Teaser: First Look at New Netflix Series Has All of Our Favorite Things!

at .

There are a few things I've known about The Umbrella Academy.

First and foremost, I've known it's a series coming on Netflix. Check. More importantly (to me) is that Robert Sheehan stars as one of the Academy members. We can now call him Number 4. He does pink so well.

We can also add to the "now we know" list that The Umbrella Academy is coming on February 15, 2019, and my girl Tiffany (Holy 1980's throwback, Batman!) gets to play front and center for this incredible tease of all that's to come. AWESOME.

So what IS The Umbrella Academy?

Let's see it straight from the fingertips of Netflix.

On the same day in 1989, forty-three infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by a billionaire who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his "children" to save the world.

Now, the six surviving members reunite upon the news of their father's passing and must work together to solve a mystery surrounding his death. But the estranged family begins to come apart due to their divergent personalities and abilities, not to mention the imminent threat of a global apocalypse.

Funeral for a Friend

The Umbrella Academy is based on the comic book series created and written by Gerard Way, illustrated by Gabriel Bá, and published by Dark Horse Comics.

The show is produced by Universal Cable Productions for Netflix, with Steve Blackman serving as executive producer and showrunner, and additional EPs Jeff F. King, Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg, Gerard Way, and Gabriel Bá.

Way was also the lead singer and founder of the band My Chemical Romance from 2001 to 2013 when they disbanded.

Pretty cool, right? This is a big deal from all kinds of different directions.

You might also notice in the photo above that Grammy Award-winning and Oscar-nominated (for both music and actingMary J. Blige is a part of the show.

While you're busy wiping the sweat off of your brow over containing all of that excitement, let's not forget about Juno herself, Ellen Page. She's also an Oscar nominee and is a Critic's Choice Award Winner for Best Actress.

Yep, this is the kind of production we've come to expect from Netflix, and as the premiere date grows closer, we'll surely be drooling for February to arrive..

Reunite and Save the World

The ten-episode series stars Ellen Page, Mary J. Blige, Cameron Britton, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Colm Feore, Adam Godley, John Magaro, Ashley Madekwe. and Kate Walsh.

If you're expecting your Valentine's Day to go awry, you know you can stay up late and find new family with this crazy lot.

What do you think? Will this match the high bar set by The Haunting of Hill House and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina this fall?

Netflix Quotes

Jack: Alyssa is not Salvador!
Vera: She knows all our strengths and all our weaknesses. That makes her exceedingly dangerous.
Jack: Why do you hate her so much?
[Vera stares at him]
Vera: Mr. Morton, you’re relieved from temple duties until further notice.
Jack: You’re benching me?!
Vera: Your infatuation has become a liability.
[Vera walks away]
Jack: Yeah, well, you’re welcome for saving your life!
Vera: I said, “Thank you.”

I do not exist. I exist only if the motherland exists.
