NYPD Blue Revival: Fabien Frankel Cast as Theo Sipowicz

ABC's potential revival of NYPD Blue is moving full steam ahead.

The series has found its leading man in Fabien Frankel who will lead the cast as Theo Sipowiz, per Variety.

You may be thinking that name sounds familiar if you were a fan of the original series. Theo is the son of Andy (Dennis Franz) from the 1993-2005 show.

Theo is described as "a hard-drinking, hard-headed, and quick-witted cop."

The revival news broke in October, and it left fans up in arms about the execution of the new series.

The reason for that is that it will take place in a post-Andy Sipowicz world. Yes, really.

His son, Theo will be front and center as he tries to find those responsible for murdering his father.

It's a different direction to take things, but Theo will also be trying to earn his stripes as a detective in the 15th squad, so we've to think of it as him following in his father's footsteps.

It was later revealed that Kim Delaney and Bill Brochtrup would be stopping by as Diane Russell and John Irvin respectively.

We must stress that ABC has only given the series a pilot commitment, but unless the series comes in well below expectations, it will likely be picked up.

As networks vie for the top spot in the ratings, it's becoming increasingly difficult to launch new shows because viewers are spoiled for choice.

The general rule of thumb is that a reboot or a revival could have a built-in fanbase. That's likely why there's been an influx of shows making comebacks over the past few years.

Matt Olmstead and Nick Wootton, both of whom worked on the original series are bringing the revival to screens, so that's a big positive here.
