Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 11 Review: College Confidential

Standish got to run point on his first mission.

The team went to college and had a great time on campus on Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 11, but it was Standish's hour to show off.

The kid did a good job and made Frankie and Will proud in the end.

School Daze - Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 11

Whiskey Cavalier is cheesy, fun, and most of the time it's entertaining. However, one of the biggest frustrations with the series is how choppy it comes across.

It's a series where many of the installments are meant to be standalone, and there is nothing wrong with that, but when the character development is tied into all of that too, it stands out when the installments are out of sync.

A handful of times it was apparent the series switched around airdate for episodes, and it's most reflective in how the characters get along with one another.

Professor Susan - Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 11

It'll seem like they made huge steps forward in personal development and with the relationships, they have formed with one another, and then the next hour it'll be a backslide.

The hour felt like a filler episode -- the ones where they can place them at any point in the season to stretch out arcs. It was odd having this lighthearted hour come after everything on Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 10.

Will is no longer visibly mourning the loss of his girlfriend, and not only were he and Frankie doing their usual flirting but he was hung up on Claire flirting with him.

Oh God, are you hurting because you're old?

Frankie

Standish has developed and received training with weapons, and he has become more confident in his abilities, but he was back to lacking the confidence and coming across inexperienced in the field.

We had no indication Susan and Ray slept together or were still sleeping with one another.

Government Asset - Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 11

Ray was back to being a bit on the goofy side, although it was adorable how he was babysitting his niece (played by Scott Foley's actual daughter).

We also didn't get anything more on Tina's involvement with The Trust. It felt like it was before we knew she was involved in it at all.

It happens often enough with the series, but this time around it was more jarring than ever.

Opposing Viewpoints - Tall - Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 3

Outside of that, it was nice to have Standish running point on a mission. He was perfect for the role as the youngest on the team who could get better access to their target by posing as a college kid.

He says I'm a natural hooker. That's a rugby term unless he's playing a trick on me.

Ray

Jung was such a pain in the ass though. He was rude, condescending, and offputting. No matter what Standish did or said the guy was not opening up to Standish or even nice to him.

If not for Frankie and Will posing as assassins to get the ball rolling, there is no telling if Standish would have ever gotten through to the guy.

Standish kicking butt, despite it being Will and Frankie's butts, was rad. I like when he shows off how capable he is.

Standish In Charge - Tall - Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 11

Jung was in a tough position; his country was using his research and needing him to build weapons. He was an asset they were investing in, and they even sent someone there to keep an eye on him while he was at school and make sure he was doing as they pleased.

Park was an interesting character, and I almost hated to see the gang take him down, although the way the covered for it by pretending he was in his professor's class upset about a grade was funny.

Standish and Jung got on the right foot, but then Jung took off on them and away from Standish's watch. His line of thinking was reasonable since he found out there were spies, and he also had people coming after him.

However, it was a reckless choice for him to make because of how leaving Standish and the others put him in more danger with no protection or backup.

Standish screwed up a bit letting him from out of his sight, but he made up for it with his plan to make it seem like Jung's government killed him.

It was the perfect payback to Will and Frankie after what they had done to Standish while posing as motorcycle-riding assassins.

Standish: Mom, Dad, if you're done fighting. We all know you're coming with me so.
Frankie: Fine.
Will: This isn't finished. We're talking about this in the car.

The family dynamic between Will, Frankie, and Standish was the cutest part of the hour. Will and Frankie bickered and debated about the best ways to handle Standish and coach him through his first mission running point.

Frankie, as usual, was an advocate for tough love and criticism. How else would Standish ever learn? However, Will was nurturing and supportive of Standish.

Will has always taken to Standish as though he was his little brother whom he has to groom, teach, and protect. He was proud of Standish for how he conducted himself and carried on with the assignment.

On the Run - Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 1

The hugs between the two of them are the absolute cutest things ever.

Frankie wasn't as warm and fuzzy, but it's her way, and one has to read between the lines when it comes to Frankie.

The entire hour it felt like Will and Frankie were a married couple bickering over how best to handle their kid, so it was fitting when Standish himself joked and called them "mom" and "dad."

Susan and Jai were adorable together as well. They were hilarious going undercover at the college, and they had some badass moments when they were kicking butt.

However, their time spent watching the real-life telenovela happening between the one professor and his pregnant student was hilarious.

They couldn't let the addictive saga go after the mission was complete.

They had great chemistry, but nearly all the characters have great chemistry with each other and mix and match the different dynamics is fun.
