The Disappearance Season 1 Episode 4 Review: Treasure Hunt

at .

Lord, it's taking a while to connect the dots.

The Sullivans and the police took their investigations in separate directions on The Disappearance Season 1 Episode 4.

What they haven't pieced together yet is what's become obvious to the viewers: the shunned baby resulting from Maggie getting raped by Jason Dodd is the person who kidnapped Anthony, as a way of getting back at the Sullivans.

Catching Up With the Case -- Tall - The Disappearance Season 1 Episode 4

Luke and Catherine were trying to track down their adopted half-brother, going from birth forward.

Susan and Cooper were investigating Steven Price, starting back with his days at St. James Orphanage.

Sadly, there's just been no connection made yet between the two searches.

We did finally get the sad story of the baby that resulted from the rape of Maggie Sullivan by Jason Dodd.

After hearing the tale, it was simpler to understand why that grown child might blame the Sullivans for his difficult life.

Who can say why Luke and Catherine thought it was a good idea to confront the hospitalized Henry about one of the worst times of his life?

At least they discovered that Henry gave the baby to "the clerk" before he passed out from his drug cocktail.

Although Luke still appeared to be drinking too much, he has been fairly sharp as an investigator in recent episodes.

In Disbelief - The Disappearance Season 1 Episode 4

It was him who tracked down Debbie Smith, Henry's clerk during the Dodd trial, at a senior facility. Granted, she told him and Helen nothing other than to talk with Henry. But at least he knew he was on the right track.

Henry still wasn't forthcoming. But that visit, combined with intimidation of Debbie by Price, did get Luke to the information he needed.

Debbie's brother MIchael contacted Luke and ultimately told him about the baby's miserable early life.

Suddenly, the flashback of Henry handing money to a strung-out woman on The Disappearance Season 1 Episode 3 made sense.

That must have been Andrea Smith, the recovering drug addict sister of Debbie and Michael who adopted the baby.

Maggie and Henry were more concerned with getting rid of the baby than they were finding him a stable home.

During her stable period, Andrea filled her son David's head with stories about his biological family, the Sullivans.

Then, sometime after she ran into Henry at the snack bar, Andrea relapsed and eventually overdosed, resulting in David being sent to an orphanage.

This tragic story also explained to Luke and Catherine why Henry had sold, out of the blue, the family's beloved camp nearby the snack bar. He didn't want any of his family learning about what had happened to that baby.

So the Sullivans reached a dead end in their search with David shipped off to an orphanage years ago.

Isn't it likely that David went to the same St. James Orphanage where someone was holding Steven Price? There can't be that many in one area.

What would you bet that David Smith became Price? But then you would need someone like Michael who knows what David looked like to study that class photo to identify him.

Flashing the Badge - The Disappearance Season 1 Episode 4

It can't be a coincidence that St. James got closed down because a boy who had been bullying Price committed suicide.

Susan picked up on the possible connection even if the good father didn't.

It appears that Steven Price will take violent retribution if he feels he's been mistreated.

Might that apply to the Sullivan family?

While hospitalized, Henry got some sage advice from oncology patient Fred about resting and clearing his head.

Helen surely could have used that same advice, because she's right on the edge.

Maternal Breakdown - The Disappearance Season 1 Episode 4

That's certainly understandable but hardly healthy.

She woke up bleeding and was sure that she'd lost the baby.

Her doctor told her the bleeding could have gotten caused by recent sex. In other words, the rough sex she had with Chilton trying to get him to talk.

Then she got into a screaming argument with Luke, who had the gall to suggest an abortion when the baby wasn't even his.

Finally, when Frank invited her in to talk about resuming her work at the lab, she told him about his baby.

Then she broke down, showing the depths of her despair. Frank looked like he'd dodged a bullet.

In Shock - The Disappearance Season 1 Episode 4

Helen could certainly benefit from some of that rest time of which Fred spoke.

It's easy to understand how come Catherine has fallen for Fred, because he's such a nice guy.

He befriended Henry in the hospital and even served as Watson to Henry's Sherlock, as Henry walked him through the whole story of Anthony's abduction.

Hasn't Fred suffered enough without getting further pulled into the Sullivan family drama?

But it was a nurse's commment that got Henry the detective back on track.

She informed the stubborn Henry that he was going to get his drugs inside him one way or another. He just heard the word "inside."

Dangerous Choice - The Disappearance Season 1 Episode 4

Henry called Susan with the crazy request that the "inside" of the cat be subjected to an autopsy.

She humored him and uncovered the next important clue in this case as a result.

In eight pieces in the cat's stomach was the photo of Maggie which Henry had given to Anthony.

On the back of it was drawn a variation of the symbol for radium which Henry had used in his treasure hunt for Anthony.

Henry quickly identified the two items as clues in a treasure hunt, that someone (Price?) has set up to torture Henry.

Is Anthony the treasure at the end of this hunt?

Price proved himself to be dangerous this episode, gutshooting Cooper when the detective broke into his house after a judge refused to grant a warrant.

Which of the Sullivans is most unbalanced right now?

Is Price the kidnapper?

Is he the baby Henry gave away?
