Netflix is moving full steam ahead with a reboot of The Baby-Sitters Club.

The streamer has revealed that Alicia Silverstone (Clueless) and Mark Feuerstein (Royal Pains) will lead the cast of the live-action series, which is based on Ann M. Martin's best-selling book series.

In the series adaptation, Silverstone will take on the role of Elizabeth Thomas-Brewer, the mother of Kristy Thomas and the love interest of Watson Brewer, played by Feuerstein.

The Baby-Sitters Club is an original contemporary series that will follow the friendship and babysitting adventures of five best friends  -Kristy Thomas, Mary Anne Spier, Claudia Kishi, Stacey McGill, and Dawn Schafer - in Stoneybrook, Connecticut.

Production has already kicked off in Vancouver, so we should probably expect the rest of the casting news to drop in the coming days.

The series author Ann M. Martin will also produce alongside Aniello's Paulilu Productions.

Published by Scholastic, The Baby-Sitters Club is a classic story of female friendship, entrepreneurialism, and empowerment.

Originally launched as a four-book series in 1986, The Baby-Sitters Club is one of the most successful children’s book series in publishing history with over 200 books licensed in over 20 territories with more than 180 million copies in print to date.

“I’m amazed that there are so many passionate fans of ‘The Baby-Sitters Club’ after all these years, and I’m honored to continue to hear from readers – now grown, who have become writers, editors, teachers, librarians, filmmakers – who say that they see a reflection of themselves in the characters of Kristy and her friends," Martin said in a statement when the series was ordered.

"So I’m very excited about the forthcoming series on Netflix, which I hope will inspire a new generation of readers and leaders everywhere."

“The themes of The Baby-Sitters Club still resonate 30 years after the original book series was released and there has never been a more opportune time to tell an aspirational story about empowering young female entrepreneurs,” added Melissa Cobb, vice president of Kids & Family at Netflix.

Alicia Silverstone Attends Paramount Event

This is not the first trip to the small screen for The Baby-Sitters Club.

HBO aired an original series in 1990, but it only lasted one season of 13 episodes. It went on to air encores on Disney Channel and Nickelodeon.

But it did not enjoy the same success as the books.

A movie was also produced in 1995, and despite decent reviews, it failed to make much of an impact at the box office.

Will the new Netflix iteration be able to enjoy bigger success? Time will tell.
