All Rise Season 1 Episode 7 Review: Uncommon Women and Mothers

Can Roxy stick around?

We finally met Lola's mother on All Rise Season 1 Episode 7, and she did not disappoint.

With Lola trying to help everyone inside the courtroom, it was no surprise that her mother would be on the front line trying to help the people who are not fortunate enough to have a place to call home.

A Character Witness - All Rise

Roxy was most definitely a conflict of interest in the case, especially with Mark as the prosecutor and forced to ask her questions.

Roxy desperately wanted to keep Jax out of jail by not confirming whether the socks used in the attack were the same as those she purchased for them.

Hey Roxy! - All Rise Season 1 Episode 7

She was happy enough to go to jail for contempt of court, but she failed to recognize that the good she said about Jax's character would be struck from the record, essentially making her role as a character witness a dud.

It was a difficult situation for her to be in, and she should be thankful that Lola was on hand to talk some sense into her. Could you imagine if Roxy got sent tp prison? How bad would that look on Lola, a judge in the same building?

The biggest surprise about the case was the effect it had on Jax' prosecutor, Mark.. He was homeless at one point in his life due to his father's knack for gambling, and he struggled prosecuting Jax as a result.

It also didn't help matters that he was questioning his best friend's mother who helped him several times in his life since his father wasn't for him. Roxy even co-signed Mark's first apartment.

Mark Talks Work - All Rise Season 1 Episode 8

She doesn't have a bad bone in her body, and the fact that she went to check in on Mark after he had to have her arrested proved that.

Jax's charges getting lowered to misdemeanors was predictable, but it's going to be tough when they can't pay the fines, and they continue to pile up.

Lola: Mam, you in the galley, please stand. Have you been here all morning?
Roxy: Ugh, no. Only about 30 minutes.
Lola: Let's toss in your honor next time, if you don't mind, and welcome to my courtroom. First time?
Roxy: Yes, your honor.
Lola: On a scale of 1 to 10, how am I doing?
Roxy: Tough question, your honor.
Lola: Oh, how so?
Roxy: Am I evaluating how you're doing your job, or the effect your job's had today, your honor?

As for Lola, she had the day from hell. From her mother getting arrested to Judge Benner going behind her back, she was struggling to make sense of everything.

Lola overstepped by yelling at her boss. You don't raise your voice to the person who gave you the job in the first place. Lola is very by the book and likes when the judicial system works.

But Benner knew Kramer for a decade and knew that he wouldn't cut corners just to speed up things. Benner could have easily suspended Lola, but she liked that Lola fought for her beliefs.

Now that the two women have an understanding, they will probably have more communication going forward so that something like that does not happen again.

It's difficult to assess whether Lola getting the title Sherri and Sara were fighting over was positive or negative. People do tend to listen to Lola when she raises her voice, so that could be the reason.

It could also be that Lola was yelling at Benner a few scenes earlier.

Lola Shocked - All Rise Season 1 Episode 7

The friendship between the two women is another strong part of this stellar series. More of it, please!

It was natural of Mark to realize that he needed to turn to his father when you consider the case of the week. But he also needs to keep in mind that nothing good will come from meeting with the man who raised him.

Lola: Hey, Momma. Come on back.
Roxy: Hi, Lo.
Lola: It's okay, we don't bite.

Mark puts men like his father in prison, and if people get wind of his father mingling with a prosecutor, then that's a recipe for disaster.

Mark would be wise to grow a thicker skin and put his father in his rear-view mirror because the man only cares about keeping up appearances.

Sherri Listens - All Rise Season 1 Episode 7

Emily is struggling to leave her marriage behind. She knows it's over, but the process of beginning again with someone else scares her.

Her relationship with Luke has been blossoming since All Rise Season 1 Episode 1, but she's scared that moving too fast will spoil it.

It's natural for someone coming out of a long-term relationship to start something new and worry about the longevity of it.

She and Luke have so much chemistry, but they need to be open and honest with each other about their feelings, or they run the risk of ruining what they have.

Emily Wants Answers - All Rise Season 1 Episode 5

That's twice now Luke has said that he's happy to take it as slowly as Emily wants. He's a good man who knows that Emily is not looking to rush things.

Boss: The case starts today.
Mark: I know, I'm trying.
Boss: I know you're trying, even though Judge Carmichael's mother is on the witness list?
Mark: Character witness. Not presenting evidence. It'll be fine.

"Uncommon Women and Mothers" was another solid installment of this CBS drama series. The show is going from strength to strength and is proving to be one of the best on broadcast.
